Kali's POV
My hands wouldn’t stop trembling, even after I shut the door behind me. In fact, now that I was in the solitude of my room, the tremors seemed to have increased, like my fingers now had a mind of their own and they'd decided to go haywire out of the blue. Slowly, I clicked the latch at the back of my door shut, but it did nothing to lock out the echo of Leo’s words.
“There is no time to waste, we can't wait any longer.” Leo's voice echoed loudly in my head, no matter how hard I tried to push it aside. “Don’t get carried away.”
“Because if you fail, Kali, you won’t just ruin yourself.”
“You’ll ruin him too.”
I hated to admit it, but the sentence gnawed at me, like teeth working into bone. I pressed my back to the door, my breathing shallow, as I tried to find steady ground
