The Luna

Jackson, 1930  It was another beautiful day in the little town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, it was the start of winter so everything was just starting to get a little colder. I looked into the mirror, I held my hand to my face, I smiled, I could see my mother, Darna, she had passed away five years earlier. I never knew my father and my mother never mentioned him, I never thought to bring it up, why bring up heartache when we had what we needed between the two of us, well had. I live in the Blue Crescent Pack, I'm 19 almost 20 and have never met my mate. I've had a few boyfriends but nothing serious and definitely nothing that intimate. I think that's why they never lasted. But I was not going to just throw my "virtue" away, I was saving myself for my mate, whoever he is.  I'm not that outspoken but I occasionally speak my mind. Well to my friends that is. This pack is one of the tops in America, I'm lucky that I'm here. My mother was one of the Packs highly respected Doctors so my life after her passing is better than alright. I live by myself and work and a nurse in our hospital, following my mothers footsteps, I know she would be proud. I never met our ranked members but I have seen them at gatherings and ceremony's. There's another gathering on tonight, I don't usually go because of work but tonight I thought I let myself relax.  My two best friends were Dany, a nurse and Greg, boarder patrol, they loved each other but never admitted, they've never dated anyone but they always get jealous, they need to give in to one another already, though they aren't the age to find their mates yet so we'll see.  I put on a simple light cream dress that showed my hips and chest as some small heels, with my hair a simple right side split with my natural hair out. I have wavy hair, just like my mother but I only really did something special for work or an occasion and this was just a regular gathering. With my purse an my coat, I left my little cabin, walked outside and Dany and Greg were waiting for me. "Hello", I smiled and hugged Dany. "Hey", Greg replied, Dany just giggled. They were always flirting. I just rolled my eyes. The Pack house was not far from my cabin so we walked there, talking about what could be the announcement tonight. Maybe a new Pack member or even a winter Luna ceremony. We had no idea.  Now the racism was strong in this country but lucky for kin, wolves didn't care for humans inhumane ways, we actually laughed about that fact, not saying that there wasn't indifference just not on the level of humans. And just like my  mother, I too was light brown. A n***o to some, even some ignorant wolves called me the N word. I never paid them any mind, Dany and Greg hated that word, they were white but never treated my any differently and I loved them for it. They were my family now and that's how it was going to stay... or so I thought.
