I pump my arms as hard as I can, invigorated by Lucas’ power in my blood. My legs churn beneath me, running harder than I’ve ever run in my life. My lungs are on fire with every ragged breath I take, but I can’t slow down. I have to save my friends. I have to warn them. By the time I reach the village the screaming has subsided. It’s become eerily quiet, and I don’t like it. My skin is alight with goosebumps, and I feel like I’m walking straight toward death. I slow down and find my way to the shadows, hoping to stay unnoticed as long as possible. I can’t quite see all the way into town from here, but I’m afraid to go any farther. I need a better vantage point. I can see some figures moving about in the distance, but there are a few houses blocking my view. My eyes dart up to the thatch
