We have finally decided on a date. On June 16th I will marry Isaac. I had my reservations. That's no secret. What is a secret, for now, anyway, are the 2 pink lines that just showed up on the stick. We were being so careful. I guess god works in mysterious ways. But is this a good thing? One incident after another in my life. Can I really bring a baby into this world? Into my world?
Knock, Knock, Knock.
"Babe, you almost ready to go?"
"Yeah, almost ready." My voice came out a little softer than I intended it too.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm good. I'll meet you in the living room." Crap. How am I going to tell him? We are going out to dinner tonight. We had made it a point to take 1 day a week to give us time to talk about things. Especially after I decided it would be best if I either work somewhere else or Isaac works behind closed doors. Which is no different than any other day. But we need our space from each other. We decided that Isaac would manage the bar from home while I work at the bar. It has been really good for us to have our own space.
I put the test in my purse and finish getting ready. Later, we are pulling up to a restaurant in town. It's a cute Italian restaurant. Almost like an Olive Garden. But not as fancy.
"Can we get 2 vodka sodas please?" Isaac says to the waitress.
"Actually, just make mine a water please." He gives me a weird look before he starts looking over the menu. I chose the chicken marinara with pasta, and he got the chicken Alfredo. We talk about our usual things. How our days have been, what happened on my shift, are the books right, ect. I think he can tell something is off because he keeps looking at me as if waiting for me to tell him. I'm sure he will be excited. It's just nerve-racking.
"You ready to go?"
"Sure."
"Okay, your going to tell me so why don't you just spit it out."
"Not here. We will talk at home." Now he has a worried look on his face. I should have just told him before we left the house. We get up after paying for the bill and walk out to his car. Making our way back to the car he holds my hand.
"You know what ever it is we will figure it out together right?" I look up at him and nod. I love this man. I'm just not sure if I'm ready for this or not. When we walk in the door I go to the room and change into my pajamas. Coming back out I hide the test behind my back and join him on the couch.
"I've been thinking. And I want a serious answer. Don't just tell me what you think I want to hear okay?"
"Promise. What is it babe?"
"How do you feel about starting a family?" He takes my question in, thinking about it, a bit longer than I thought he would honestly.
"Well, we are financially stable enough to start a family. And we have enough space."
"That's not what I asked Isaac."
"Honestly, we haven't talked about it so I haven't thought about it."
"Oh."
"That's not saying I wouldn't love to start a family with you. I just figured we would wait until we were ready to talk about it seriously."
"Isn't that what this is? Talking about it seriously?"
"Sam, what is this about?" I don't say anything I just hand him the test. He takes it and stares at it for what feels like 30 minutes.
"We're going to have a baby?" I nod my head.
"We're going to have a baby. Like an actual little boy or girl." I nod again. His reaction is a little slower than I would have liked.
"Isaac, what do you think?" He looks up from the test and a smile starts to appear on his face.
"I'm going to be a daddy." He says as a single tear falls down his cheek. I brush the tear from his cheek.
"I found out this morning." Isaac wraps me in a big hug, and starts laughing. Holding me so tight, as more tears fall from his eyes.
"We're going to have a baby." He says again. I pull away from him slightly so I can look at him.
"So you're okay with this?"
"Of course I am baby. We are going to be parents." He says wrapping me into another hug. We spent the rest of the evening talking about how I have to make a doctors appointment, and baby names, and how we are going to tell Ian and Sadie. When we were talking about baby names we made a deal. He would pick the boy name and I would pick the girl. We then decide that we are going to order shirts for Ian and Sadie. One that says aunty, and the other says uncle with baby foot prints all over it. The more we talked the more excited we got. We are going to be parents.
The next morning I make a call to my doctor and set up a time in the next few weeks to see him. We tell Ian and Sadie to meet us at the house because we have a surprise for them. About 3 o'clock they show up.
"So what's this all about?" Sadie asks walking in and giving me a hug.
"Yeah it sounded kind of sketchy." Ian says giving me a hug after Sadie. Isaac and I look at each other and then back to them. We have the shirts in bags so we hand Sadie a purple bag and Ian a green bag.
"Open them." I say with a nervous smile on my face. They open their bags at the same time, holding them up.
"Oh my god no way!!" Sadie screams.
"I'm going to be an uncle?" Ian stands up abruptly.
"Yes. We are going to have a baby." I say smiling even bigger because of their reactions.
"AHHHHHH." Sadie screams coming over to me and hugging the life out of me.
"This is amazing news!!" Ian gives his brother the biggest hug I think I have ever seen.
"Do you have names picked out already?" Sadie's smile is huge.
"I picked the boy name."
"Wait you know the name and you didn't tell me?"
"I wanted to add to the surprise. Anyway, I want to name him Carter Lee Anderson." Ian looks at him in shock and tears well up in my eyes. Carter is Ians middle name.
"I wanted to name my son after my brother. My brother who has always been there for me, and helped me make my dream come true with owning my bar, my brother who is my best friend." Ian and I are bawl babies by now. That was so sweet. Even Sadie cried. We all bombarded Isaac with big hugs and tears.
"Okay, okay, babe, your turn. Do you have a girls name picked out?"
"I do. If it's a girl, her name will be Emily Rose Anderson." Sadie looks at me shocked. Rose is her middle name. We all do the same thing. Gather around in a big group hug, with tears in our eyes. This has been a special moment. And I'm so glad we get to enjoy this moment with each other. Ian and Sadie decided that they wanted to use a sharpy and right down the names on their shirts. Sadie with the girl name, and Ian with the boy name. Then decided that they would wear them during the gender reveal in a few months. They are so excited. And competative. They have started making bets on if it's a boy or girl. Isaac and I just stand there laughing at them.
It's been a few months and we get to find out the gender. We asked the doctor to put if it's a boy or girl on a piece of paper and fold it up, so we could give it to another friend of ours from the bar so she can help plan the gender reveal party. She was happy we asked and got super excited about planning the party. After the doctors, we are happy to know that the baby looks healthy. She said the baby looks a little small so I need to increase my calories to help it grow, but other than that, all looks good. We go by the bar and give Carla, our other friend the folded up piece of paper.
"Be here tomorrow. 7p.m.. Everything will be ready." She then instructed me to go home, get a good meal to eat and get some rest. Because we had a busy night that she has planned for us.
