GREENWICH, 1979Tension was building in the squad. The pressure was on. It was mid-December and we needed to nab one of the Maloney boys soon. Funding was drying up and those seconded from the regions would soon be heading back to their regular postings. Tempers were frayed as a result, as everyone wanted to be a part of the action and accrue some of the glory that went with it. And the sergeant and constable seconded from Birmingham were behaving like animals. Worse than animals. DS Trower and DC Brice were uncouth and vile. Rumour had it they had trashed all the places they stayed in. Gave just cause to civilians calling us pigs.
