Mia's POV
Just how many times would I be knocked out in one day? I thought as I was slowly getting out of my unconscious state. I didn't know where I was or what I was doing.
It was really hard for me to get any part of my body moving even though I was still wrapped up in the blackness behind my eyelids.
One thing but sure and that was the fact that I had been captured by Alpha Arthur's men. They were probably going to hand me over to their alpha as a mere intruder and I would get punished for that.
The thought of meeting Alpha Arthur was the one that finally shook me up from my sleep. It almost seemed like he was around the corner with each breath that I took. I was really afraid that he would be displeased by the sight of me.
It was clear that I had come to the end of my road. I would be trapped there forever, and I would probably die as I wouldn't get to it by second chance, mate.
Except somehow he would get thrown into prison with me. That in itself was more than impossible. It was going to be much better if the moon goddess would just take my life away from me and spare me the page of buying because of Rina's curse.
“Wake up…” a voice said to me with a rather rude tone that didn't seem to show any emotions. And just like that, I was standing face-to-face with that man who had appeared to be in the world as my last minute hero.
I already knew that he was the one just by looking at him and comparing his build with the one I had seen in the woods and immediately drew a conclusion.
He had blonde hair and a smooth, muscular chin. But that wasn't the time to admire esthetics as my life was on the line.
There just wasn't any way it could have been a different person. The authority in his tone made me wonder if I had been standing in front of Alpha Arthur all that time without knowing.
It seemed like he had been leading me for a couple of moments to know how I would react, and I had completely blown it with my rather impulsive behavior. I was wishing that I could go back in time to the woods and explain myself in a much more civil manner.
“What was that all about? You could have gotten yourself killed if all I was trying to do was help. Some were angry, and he also seemed to care at the same time. Eating like my attitude had frustrated him to an extent, and he was more than ready to show it to be.
“I'm really sorry… Are you Alpha Arthur?” I was starting to really lose my composure as I was born scared, and really sorry for my misdeeds. I just wanted to skip things and get to the part where he would accept my apology and just let me go, or better still, help me find my second chance mate before I would run out of time.
He was quiet for a few awkward couples of seconds as he seemed to be a bit taken aback by the question that I had just asked. There were just too many things that had me feeling like I was about to be given the biggest shock of my life.
“Well, I'm not Alpha Arthur…” he said. “Did you forget when I introduced myself to you in the woods? I am Finn, the beta of this pack. I assist Alpha Arthur…”
“Oh…” I said, with a seeming tone of disappointment, as I had already been planning how I would be making him use his authority to help me find my chosen mate.
But then, I could recall his attempts at a dialogue earlier in the woods where he had clearly stated that he had been Alpha Arthur's beta. I was suddenly filled with fear as I soon realized that I was yet to meet the most feared Alpha himself.
“We could have easily contained this without having to make a fuss, but you chose to take the hard road yourself and here we are…” he had a quiet regrettable tone as he was speaking, like things had gotten to the point where they couldn't be reversed at all. “Your matter was taken up to the council, and they have decided that you would be kept prisoner till the day of your execution.”
“Execution…?” I gasped with a lot of shock and fright. That was just too severe. “All I did was to run in the woods, how under the blue moon was I supposed to know that I was in your territory?” I felt like I had been judged unjustly, but then, there was no one that could speak on my behalf.
“The pack has become even stricter with its policies against intruders and Alpha Arthur is becoming even more insecure with the way the pack is beginning to get even more influential.” Finn narrated with anger and regret. “I wanted to get you out of this, but you chose to take things into your own hands.”
“There has to be some way I can leave… I can't just die…” I just couldn't afford to be taken out of the picture that easily. No way I was going to let Rina have the last laugh that easily. I still needed to find my mate and get my revenge. “I have to get out of this or—”
“Or what…?” He asked as he sighed in disappointment. “There's nothing that you or anyone could do to change that at all. Alpha Arthur will make it happen just that way. He might just see you one more time before you get staked in the heart.”
“No…” I was really scared by the way he said it so coldly without any emotion at all. My heart was taking on a frantic sprint as I was seriously contemplating what I could do at that point. “There has to be a way…”
“There's no will… there's no way that you can alter any of Arthur's orders. I guess it was nice knowing you, Mia…” he called my name out like he had known me for quite a while.
“No… please…” I tried to plead for him to wait, but he was out of the room before I could tell him to wait a moment. It was all looking hopeless as I was all alone in that awkward, dimly lit room.
For a couple of moments, I was silent as I thought over everything in my head and just how my life was about to end right there and then. But then, I was unwilling to accept it easily.
I got up out of bed and made for the door which I believed that Finn had locked after he had left. I wanted to know if by chance it would be open, even though I was sure that it had been sealed shut.
“Oh goddess…” I sighed as I had my hands on the knob, turned and pulled the door which magically opened for me to see the tall, imposing figure with silvery, curly and ruffled hair. His aura spoke nothing but alpha, and that wasn't all…
Suddenly, my body was beginning to feel what it always felt like when I had been around Gray. The mate pull was even stronger than it used to be with Gray. The words for him seemed to be on the tip of my tongue, but fear made them stick fast.
After a few seconds of staring at him, I just couldn't hold it in anymore, and he seemed unable to hold it as well.
“Mate…?” We both said to each other at the same time in surprise.
