Chapter 3.

As we drove through our little town to get to the pack house, it looked like nothing had changed. The school was energized, and all the pups had grown so fast. We drove by the pack hospital, that was where the really bad injured went. We have a hospital wing on the fifth floor of the pack house for the Alpha. It helps when the Luna is becoming a new mother and doesn’t want to be bombarded when she leaves the hospital. The bakery, the smell that was coming from it, the smell that had made my stomach growl. My mother turned to look at me with a hint of laughter in her eyes. ‘I’m sure you haven’t had a real meal in so long! I hope you don’t mind hunny, but we are to feast tonight, there is so much happening in the coming weeks now that the new Alpha is home. You will need your energy to keep up with everything.’ I just stared at her since I was still in Rylees’ form. I just nodded and continued to look out the window of the car. Taking in the site of home. My home. We started to slow down as my dad reached the gate that lead into the pack grounds. He opened the window and punched in a code this was new we didn’t have this two years ago, the gates opened and he proceeded through then up the long driveway to the pack house. The wooded area gave me a sense of ease, I wasn’t afraid of this forest, I thrived to be in them. I looked ahead and saw the pack house come into view. It stood tall, and beautifully. The top balcony reached completely around the house, but still gave someone privacy. The main porch also wrapped around the bottom of it. Mom had it decorated with flowers and garland, it gave it that forest look. My dads Beta, Chris, and his Gamma, Brad were standing on either side of the stairs waiting for our arrival. ‘Darling, Alpha Kane is here. We have some pack business to attend to. You will be stepping in my shoes now that you are home. I will give you time to settle down, and rest till you are well and ready to start. You will need to sit in with these meetings.’ My dad said to me as he looked in the mirror at me. ‘Okay dad. I will join you, and finish the rest of my Alpha Training.’ I said to him through the link. He nodded and stopped the truck. My mother jumped out, and opened the back door, allowing my brother and I to jump out. Chris, and Brad both bowed to let us know they saw us. They were showing respect to me. I really didn’t like this. ‘Alpha Luna.’ Chris said. ‘Chris, what did I miss while I was away?’ my dad said he was always a busy man. ‘Nothing, everything is being set up, and the feast will begin in an hour.’ He turned and bowed to me ‘Welcome home Alpha.’ He said, he stepped forward and wrapped his arms around me. Chris was like an uncle to me. He taught me many things, and told me how to truly work with my wolf. ‘I missed you short fry.’ He said hugging me. To them I was small. All the males in our pack stood almost 6’1 or 6’2. Even my own mother stood taller then me by an inch. I pushed my muzzle into his palm letting him know I missed him too. My mother looked at me, and looked at Chris. ‘Chris, have Layla bring some clothing to me. Ray, needs some clothing for tonight, and I will need to alter a dress quickly’ my mother said. She looked at me ‘You’re room is still the same sweetheart. Run along and get yourself a shower, have a rest, I will be up to help you with your dress for the feast. ‘ I nodded, and started to walk towards the door. Brad opened it and whispered welcome back to me and I walked into the pack house. I stood in the foyer for a moment, taking in every scent, and smell. Staying on guard at all times. I started to walk up the stairs towards my room once in there I shifted back to my human form. I stretched and headed into my bathroom. I turned on the water allowing it to heat up. Once it was hot enough I stepped under the water fall and moaned out of pure pleasure of being under hot water. It had been so long since I was able to shower, I grabbed a wash cloth and started to scrub. I felt so weird, and still so dirty after six months with those animals. For the first time in six months I cried, my hand went to my neck, where the mark of my mate would be. Surprised that none of those assholes could mark me. That every time they tried it would disappear. Even the rogue king tried, and it never stuck I thanked the goddess everyday for that. As I was finishing up and drying off the water. I smelled my mother before I heard her. ‘Come in mom!’ I said letting her know I knew she was there. ‘Oh hunny! Look at you! You are so much more different then I last saw you, your hair! So long. I brought the dress.’ She said holding out the material. The dress was a very light blue material, with a V-neck line. And I slipped into it, and my mom zipped it. The dress was floor length. It had gems on the V-neck, and it almost glittered in the light. My mother gushed over it. ‘Look how beautiful. I have missed you so much, we must not waste time. The feast will begin here shortly. ‘ she said as she led me to the chair in front of the mirror. She started the job of brushing my hair, as she talked about like the last two years, she started a waterfall braid for my hair do look. A waterfall, I thought of the waterfall again. That night, that very first night when I made it. Ry had said she caught a scent she couldn’t place. It was different, another wolf she had said a good guy. But the scent reminded us of fresh rain water, it made Rylees heart skip a beat, but we were on a mission. We would hunt for that smell when we got back. That’s what I promised, but where to look. Where to start. As my mother finished my hair she stood me up and turned me around. I stood in front of the floor length mirror. I was really tan, I had a slight bruising below my eye. Bastards. I heard Ry say. I agreed, mother noticed my hesitance. ‘I can hide that for you, if you want’ she softly said. Afraid I was going to break. ‘Sure mom, I would like that’ I said turning towards her. I sat back down and allowed her to hide the bruises on my face. I know she knew something was wrong I wasn’t going to tell her though. When she was done, she took a step back and examined me. With a nod I knew she was happy with what she saw. ‘I won’t ask you what happened, but when you are ready. I will be here, and I will listen’ she said hugging me. I hugged her back. ‘Thanks mom’ I said hugging her back. ‘I missed you guys so much.’ As she lead me out of the room, towards the steps descending into the dining room. A smell had hit me, not just any smell. THAT smell, the freshly rained smell. That was intoxicating me. Rylee was jumping in my head. Mate Yea, I got that Ry. Stop for a minute. We are about to be in front of hundreds of wolves. We need to act normal. We can hunt this man down later. I said as we continued walking down the stairs. As we approached the men at the bottom of the stairs the intoxicating scent got stronger. I could hear my dad laughing and talking to an unknown man. ‘Ah, here comes my Luna, and my daughter’ as he stared up at us. The man slowly turned around and my heart stopped. Grey eyes stared right back at me. This man looked beautiful. Very tall, dark and handsome. He had short cropped blonde hair, grey eyes. He was tall compared to me, and very muscular. You could see it through his shirt. His wore a black teeshirt that hugged his torso, so I could see the six pack from here, his arms were bulging. I wandered my gaze further but my mother cleared her throat. ‘Pardon me Alpha Kane, but I’d like to introduce my daughter to you, Raylee. ‘ my mother said. I extended my hand for his to take, and he smiled at me and took it. The tingles shot through my, making his touch really warm. I knew he felt it too. ‘Hello, Alpha Raylee. Nice to meet you.’ He said, damn even his voice was sexy, and sultry. ‘I’m not Alpha yet. So just Ray.’ I said to him. He nodded his head. ‘Okay Ray, after you.’ He said motioning to the entrance . I had walked past him, Chris saw me and stood. ‘Wolves of the White Rock Pack we want to present to you, Alpha Raylee, and Luna Marie.’ Everyone stood and clapped as I came into view. ‘Following behind is Alpha Brent, and Alpha Kane’ everyone stood again and clapped. This is what I hated. I don’t want to be appraised. I don’t deserve it. I took my seat next to my brother who looked at me weird. I just shrugged. Alpha Kane sat opposite of me and smiled, I felt my face heat up. Mate you i***t, he’s our mate! I know this Ry, but we just got home. I looked up to see him staring and smiling. ‘So Ray, how was your trip away? ‘ he had asked. My face must have slipped because he looked worried. ‘It was fine, thank you.’ I said back. Ugh this was going to be a long night. I could feel my composure slipping, the smell of fresh rain was so strong. When I was held captive, I remember getting subtle hints of my mates smell. It kept me going through that trying time. To come home and find this man, the same man that’s sitting in front of me. I let myself sneak a glance at him, he was talking to my mother. The way his voice sounded, deep, low, authority ringing in it. He was a very well spoken man, there was even a little western drawl to it. I could listen to him talk for hours. My eyes wandered to his mouth, I felt a little twinge in my stomach, what I would do to those on me, everywhere on me. Knowing he could make the bad memories fade from my mind. I let my eyes wander to his arms and chest, he was very muscular. He looked almost scary, I let my mind wander again thinking about sleeping in those arms every night for the rest of my days. Feeling safe, and being vulnerable to him. I let out a sigh. I heard someone next to me clear their throat. I turn towards the noise. It was my brother, looking at me wide eyed. ‘What is it sister?’ his voice came into my mind. ‘Nothing brother, I was just thinking about the Alpha ceremony’ I said back. Lying to him, he didn’t need to know what I was actually thinking. ‘I saw the way you looked at him….’ I cut him off ‘I said I was thinking, drop it.’ I said and turned my attention to Chris. He was talking to my dad. ‘Chris, I need to start my other training, while I was out there I taught myself how to fight, but I need to perfect my skills. Is there anyone available to help me?’ I said to him. I really needed to perfect fighting in human form. I did it while I was captive, but it was only enough to get away. When I was able to shift into Rylee I ripped the rogues throat out and was able to get away. I felt my wolf shiver at the thought. Not that we didn’t kill when we were out there, but that was for food. Killing that rogue was nasty, and he deserved nothing less. We left it a gruesome scene to make our point to the rogue king. My neck, where my mark should go, started to burn. I instinctively put my hand there, wanting the burning to stop. Every time I thought of that time, my neck would burn from the horrid memories. I took a deep settling breath. Chris was talking to me. ‘Are you okay?’ he asked ‘Yes, I’m fine. My training though?’ I countered. ‘Yes Ray, I can train you. I start at 5am every morning in the field. You can come then and we can start’ he said looking at me and my father. ‘Perfect, that would be good for you Ray’ my father said. ‘I’m usually down there as well’ I turned to the voice, it was Kane. Great this is all that I needed. How would I focus, I barely could get through dinner without looking at him. He did, but he was also very distant. ‘Okay, then I will see you all in the morning.’ I said as I excused myself from the dinner table. ‘you all have a goodnight’ I said as I bowed and walked away.
