Chapter 1: The Message That Changed Everything
The late afternoon sun beat down on the rusted rooftops of Gran Santiago, casting long shadows across the narrow alley where Tredy Sales walked every day from his part-time job at a local internet café. His worn-out sneakers barely held together, patched more times than he could count.
Today felt no different—until his pocket buzzed.
He pulled out his cracked phone. A message lit up the screen:
> Unknown Number:
"Tredy Sales. Report to the Royal Heights Hotel, Room 1508. 6:00 PM. Bring an ID. Your life is about to change."
He stared at the message.
“Is this a scam?” he muttered. “I don’t even know anyone who could afford to stay there.”
He thought of ignoring it. After all, why would anyone contact him—just a poor college dropout working double shifts to keep the lights on in the tiny apartment he shared with his mother?
But something about the message felt… different. Like it wasn’t random.
---
By 5:50 PM, Tredy stood awkwardly in the marble-floored lobby of Royal Heights Hotel, one of the most expensive places in Gran Santiago. The security guard eyed him suspiciously, but when Tredy showed the text, the guard simply nodded and pointed to the elevator.
The ride up felt surreal. The elevator played soft classical music—soothing, yet unnerving.
Ding!
The door opened. Tredy hesitated, then walked down the carpeted hallway to Room 1508.
He knocked.
The door opened instantly, revealing a tall man in a black suit. His face was unreadable.
“You’re early. Good. Come in.”
---
Inside the suite, the scent of leather and old books filled the air. Tredy sat stiffly across from the man, who placed a brown envelope on the glass table.
“This,” the man said, “was left by your grandfather, Don Emerico Sales. He instructed that it only be given to you when you turned twenty.”
Tredy blinked. “My… grandfather?”
“Yes. He passed away ten years ago. But before he did, he prepared everything for this day.”
The man opened the envelope and slid out documents, a USB, and a sleek black card.
“Your inheritance includes controlling shares in three major companies, seven properties under Sales Holdings, and ₱700 million in liquid assets. Everything is now in your name.”
Tredy’s jaw dropped.
The man continued, calm and professional. “You may choose to keep this private. In fact, Don Emerico insisted that you should see who stands by you when they think you are nothing.”
Tredy sat in stunned silence.
The world outside thought he was poor, forgettable… but inside this room, his entire reality had just changed.
He looked up at the man.
“I want to know everything,” he said quietly.
