CHAPTER FOUR
At 43 years she still looks really young with her beautiful baby face and body that is shaped like a coke bottle. Everyday, I thank God for making me her exact replica because this woman looks like a goddess, no wonder she had no problem getting a boyfriend whenever she wanted one.
I just let out a sigh and shake my head "Well, if you're happy, then I guess I'm happy for you. At least this one isn't covered in tattoos, he actually looks decent, handsome even".
"I know right, she says giggling excitedly like a teenage girl. He's so hot and romantic, last night he..."
"God, no Mom!" I shout covering my ears very quickly, knowing she has no filter. I do not want to hear what happened last night. That's a violation to my ears".
She laughs as Matt opens the door and walks in.
“Hi there Mel”. he says with a very wide smile
“Hi, call me Melanie”. I say reaching to take the grocery bags from him.
“Oh, I’m sorry. It’s really great to finally meet you Melanie. Your mom has told me so much about you.
“Really? I’m sorry, I can’t say the same about you”. I say as I walk over to my fridge to load the food items they brought. At least he had enough sense to buy groceries.
“Be nice” my mom hiss.
“The man showed up on my doorstep uninvited by 8:00am, trust me, this is nice”. I hiss back through clenched teeth.
“I really apologize for dropping in like this. I totally understand if you’re upset, I too would be angry if a stranger showed up on my doorstep this early”. Matt says looking very sincere.
Hmm, I guess mom was right, this one might be different. I glance over at my mom who is doing a very terrible job at pretending not to be listening to Matt and I.
“It’s okay, I guess. I didn’t leave my mom much of a choice. I did turn down every attempt she made at trying to introduce you to me”.
“Is anyone hungry? I have leftover pizza” I say heading over to the fridge.
“No honey, we ate on our way here and we're in a bit of a hurry. Come and sit, we have something to tell you".
I turn around and see my mom and Matt holding hands. Mom smiling excitedly and Matt looking really nervous, like he was just called into the principal’s office.
“What’s going on?” I say as I head over to sit beside mom.
Still smiling, she reaches into her bag, brings out a very flashy diamond ring and slips it into her finger.
“We’re getting married!” She exclaims showing me her finger and giggling.
I just sit there starting at her, mouth wide. Completely stunned.
“We couldn’t wait to tell you, that’s why we drove up here to break the news.” She goes on like she doesn’t notice my reaction. Still stunned.
“Honey I think you should close your mouth now, something might fly in”. She says laughing.
