I turned around with my eyes filled with anger about to shout at whomever that was, but was greeted with the brightest smile I've seen in a very long while and a crooked set of teeth obviously as a result of too many chocolates attached to a really cute face and blue eyes. Strangely, the name ‘Melon’ didn’t sound so bad coming from this guy.
“Hi” I said and smiled at him.
“I’m Jordan, and I’m impressed”.
“Impressed by what?” I asked curious
“The way you handled yourself against Matt, I like what you did there, turning the joke on him. No one actually has the guts to stand up to him or even talk back when he’s being a nuisance”.
“It’s called ‘Playing the Player', my dad taught me that. It’s a form of non-violent self-defense against bullies, and trust me, it works all the time. Why don’t people stand up to Matt? Is the the owner of the school or something?” I asked rolling my eyes.
"Uhh, something like that". Jordan said scratching the back of his head.
"I don't quite follow". I said confused
“His Mom is” Jordan said
“His mom is what?”I ask
“The owner of the school” He said very casually
My eyes almost bulged out of their socket. “His mom is the owner of the school! This school!? Oh my God! I just embarrassed the owner of my school’s son in front on the whole school, ON MY FIRST DAY! I’m going to get expelled, on my first freaking day! I might as well just write my will now because my mom is going to kill me!”I say pacing back and forth. Hyperventilating.
Jordan almost died of laughter, “Melon stop, I was just kidding, his mom isn’t the owner of the school, he’s just a spoiled brat. hHe said trying to calm me down.
I stop and look at him, giving him the death stare.
You should have seen your face though, your reaction was priceless” He said still laughing.
“Ha ha, very funny”. I said a really relieved
“Okay, I know you want to ask, but you don’t have to, do you want to know my answer?” Jordan asked smiling.
I just stared at him utterly confused. Answer to what?
“Huh?” Was the only word I could think to utter.
He laughed and said “I take that as a yes, so my answer is Yes. I would love to be your friend”.
That was how my friendship with Jordan was birthed, in the weirdest of ways. We have been practically inseparable since then and I can’t really tell at what point I fell in love with him. One day I just knew I was head over heels for this wide smile crooked teeth boy, and here I am twelve years later still in love with this wide smile handsome young man. Thank goodness his teeth are no longer crooked.
I’ve always known Jordan and I are soul mates, we were always meant to be together. He might not know it now, but he will.
Very soon. I’ll make sure of it.
