Can You Reach?

254 Words
Shocked. Reese followed the instructions she was told. She searched the field, feeling the cool summer night air graze her body. Reese searched for what felt like hours, she looked up at the sky; she could feel morning come. A few moments later, she felt rough cement under her feet. She ducked down, happy she found the door to her sister's freedom. She pulled on the trap door, and pushed herself inside. Reese fell with a thump, feeling pain erupt through her joints. She looked around, taking in the new environment. This wasn't any other place, it was a jail. Frightened, Reese went down the musty halls of the jail. She saw hundreds of young girls and women crying and whimpering for help. One cry was significantly familiar to Reese, she stopped in her tracks. She looked within the bars where she heard the familiar cries. Jasmine laid there severely beaten, she tried calling out for Reese but only cried. Reese looked all over for a key, she couldn't find a thing. She looked inside of her book bag and found a silver key that matched the lock. Reese grabbed the key and freed her big sister, who was now seven months pregnant. “Let's go.” Reese cried. Reese led her sister up the stairs she had come down just moments ago. Just as the two sisters, hand in hand, opened the trapped door a sound of glass shattering escaped from behind them. A man's figure was quickly approaching them up the stairs.
