                                                              Chapter one Today is Daniels 21st birthday and his friends had plans for him. He awoke bright early wanting to avoid his parents. They seem to think that he is still a child. They wanted to have a party for him, but it would be the same old thing. His parents would invite his family and they would have cake and gifts. But the night that Chris had for him would be a night for to remember. Daniel slipped on a pair of jeans and a tee shirt. He brushed and styled his black hair into a spikey look, and sprayed old spice body spray all over. He grabbed his phone and keys and made his way down stairs. Daniel slipped out the back of the house and his car. He did not want to stay to find out what his mother had planned so he drove down the street to Chris’s house. His white BMW that his parents got him for graduation was sitting in the drive way. Daniel pulled in behind it and put the car in park and turned it off. He made his way up to the door and knocked. The door opened quickly to reveal Chris’s mother. “Is Chris here?” he asked. “Yes come in, he is down in his room. Go ahead and go down.” Chris’s room was in the basement and lead out to the pool. “Hey Chris.” Daniel said. “I was beginning to think that you wasn’t coming.” “I had to ditch my family my mother wanted to he have a birthday party for me. I skipped out as soon as I could.” “That is cool, come over here and spot me.” Chris said and laid down on the weight bench. Daniel watched his muscles ripple as he lifted the bar to him. He noticed the bulge in Chris’s shorts. “What was he thinking he wasn’t gay. If Chris found out that he was staring at him he would give him hell. “I have a surprise for you tonight.” “Really?” “Yeah we are going to the bar and I my friend are going to get you drunk and the girls are going to meet us there.” “What girls?” Daniel asked. “Heidi and her sister Heather are coming, you know Heather has a thing for you.” “Great.” “What she is wanting hardcore man, go for it tonight get you some. After all it is your birthday who doesn’t want a little birthday sex.” Heather was an attractive woman a five foot nine and large breasts and an hour glass bodied woman. She wore her hair blonde hair short and her eyes were a deep brown. Daniel wasn’t all attracted to her but like Chris said it is his birthday and he wouldn’t want s*x. Chris and Heidi has been dating off and on for two years. They only hooked up where they both wanted something. Daniel watched in the mirror as Chris put on his clothes. “Are you ready man?” “Yeah.” “Good we will take my car and ride in style.” Chris blurted and grabbed his keys. “Where are we going anyway Chris?” “Don’t worry about it just sit back and enjoy the ride. Trust me I have a night planned for you.” “Okay some times you make me nervous.” Daniel laughed. “Everything will be okay, besides I wanted to do something with you before I left for collage.” “What? Where and when are you going?” “I got accepted to Duke and I will be leaving next week.” “Oh okay.” “This doesn’t mean the of our friendship. Come on man we had been friends for years.” “Yeah.” Chris punched Daniels arm and laughed. He couldn’t shake the image of Chris’s naked body. What is he thinking this is his best friend how can he think of him naked. Daniel wanted to things with him. He wanted to lean over and give Chris a kiss on the cheek. He knew that Chris wasn’t gay, and neither was he. Daniel hadn’t many girlfriends as a matter of fact he had only been with one girl and that only lasted a month or two after they broke up. The reason for that was Daniel did not want to do anything s****l with her. So she made up rumors that he was gay, and broke it off with him. Maybe Daniel was gay, he was turned on seeing Chris naked. “Here we are, get out.” Chris said parking in front of the local bar. They were met outside my the girls. Heidi kissed Chris on the cheek. Heather grabbed Daniels arm followed Chris and her sister into the bar. It was fairly crowded The four of them found a table and sat down. “I will be back.” Chris said and dragged Heidi to the dance floor. Daniel wasn’t really having good time. Chris bought drink after drink for him until he felt sick. He kept drinking for Chris he didn’t want to show him that he couldn’t hold his alcohol. The room started spinning around, Daniel was feeling like he was going to pass out. Daniel took a sit at the bar next a young man. “Are you okay?” Heather asked concerned. “You really need to get him out of here and get him home.” The man said to Heather. “He will be okay.” She replied. “Are you sure he looks like he is sick.” She helped Daniel from the chair and back to the booth and sat down. “I need to get some air.” Daniel muttered. “Okay wait here for a minute I will go get Chris.” Heather left him at the booth and went to Chris. He and Heidi followed her back to Daniel. They found him with his head down on the table. “We need to get him out of here and back to my place where he can sleep it off.” “Since he lives with his parents should we call them?” Heather asked. “I will take care of that when we get him to the car.” “Okay.” The three of them helped Daniel to the car, he didn’t make it before they had to stop for him to throw up. “That is good, he is getting rid of the alcohol. Come Danny lets get you into the car and get you back to my place so you can rest.” Chris said putting him into the back seat. “Heather since you didn’t drink do you want to drive my car and Heidi you follow us?” “Yeah we can do that.” Heidi replied. By the time they got to Chris’s house Daniel was passed out. “Is he okay?” Heather asked. “Yeah he is fine just passed out. He isn’t a drinker, so tonight was the most that he had ever had.” “But he will be alright though?” “Yes he will be fine, help me get him into the house.” Chris and the two girls carried Daniel around back and passed the pool into the basement. They placed him on the couch, and Chris covered him up with a blanket. “Do you want us to stay tonight Chris?” Heidi asked. “It is up to you.” “How about we stay for a little while then we can go home, Heidi mom and dad are expecting us home tonight.” “Yeah, we better go but if need us call us okay Chris?” Heidi smiled and kissed him on the cheek. “I will text me when you make it home girls.” Chris sat down on the edge of his bed and turned on the tv, Daniel rolled over and threw up again on the floor. Luckily it was wood and not carpet. “Hey man are you alright?” “Yeah just feel like shit.” “Get some sleep you are staying at my place tonight. I already told your parents.” “What about the girls? Where is the birthday s*x?” “The went home, there is no birthday s*x for you tonight.” “Why? I wanted to fuck.” Daniel blurted. “You are way to drunk go to sleep man. The girls will be back tomorrow and we can go out again for a late birthday dinner or something. Just get some rest.” “Chris can I tell you something?” “What is it?” “Don’t tell anyone but I am afraid to have s*x again.” “What?” “Yeah I was made fun of by this chick that was I seeing and I really didn’t want to do anything with her, and she called me gay. Do you think I am gay man?” “No, Daniel I don’t think that you are gay.” “Are you sure I am not gay?” “I don’t know if you are not, even if you were it wouldn’t stop me from being friends with you.” “Good, because you are my best friend and the only person I trust.” “Danny go to sleep we can talk in the morning.” “Okay man, good night I am going to sleep.” Daniel laid his head back on the pillow and fell asleep. Chris stayed up watching some tv before falling asleep. He woke up through out the night checking on his friend. Chris thought about what he was saying what if he was gay? He did see Daniel watching him get dressed. Maybe it was just a thing Chris liked girls he wasn’t gay, even if he was he would like to be with some one like Daniel though. Daniel had a kind heart and he didn’t know a stranger. When He and Chris became friends it was in elementary school and the two of them have been friends since then. They hit it off the first day, and when they got into high school, Chris became the star football player and Daniel joined the band. Chris made promise that he would watch over Daniel and he would not let anything happen to him. He knew that Daniel was upset with him leaving next week. After all they had plans to stick around here and go to the same school, but Chris wanted to leave this small town he had the change and he was going. He got a football scholarship and he did not want any thing or anyone to mess it up. Heidi even agreed to let him go and move on with her life but remain friends. With him leaving Chris wanted to spend one more night with him, having fun and celebrate Daniels birthday because it would be the last one he would probably get to attend or get to see him. Chris woke up to use the bathroom only to find Daniel laying on the floor in pool of vomit. “Hey are you okay? Danny come on wake up, wake up man come on get back on the couch. On second thought get up here on the bed. Chris put pillows into between them and laid back down and covered up. For some reason it felt right laying beside Daniel. If he was to be gay what would everyone think? He was the star foot ball star. What would they say? No one had to know that he and Daniel shared a bed, nothing happened. So that is okay right? Chris and Daniel did have friends that were gay, they didn’t mind it, they were pretty cool to hang out with. They had to hand it to them they knew how shop and they had good taste in clothing. One of them picked out Chris’s tux for his sisters wedding, and then again he helped Chris with home coming and prom. In away Chris worried about leaving next week, he didn’t want to leave his friends and family. But on the other hand he wanted out and this was his big break, he wanted to pursue a career in medicine and Duke was the best place to be. Chris also wanted to work for the VA helping out our military. Chris’s father is former Air Force and he always looked up to our soldiers. At one time he thought about joining and leaving straight out of school. Chris felt Daniel moving beside him, he got up looked over and the pillows were missing from between them. Daniel moved closer to Chris and put his arm over him. He didn’t want to wake Daniel, he closed his eyes and tried to go back to sleep but that wasn’t going to work. He couldn’t get comfortable so he ended up sliding out from under Daniels arm and rolled over. He laid awake thinking about everything, thinking about his life and his future. Chris grabbed his phone and looked at the time, it was 6 am and the sun peeked through the window. Chris made his way over the curtains and closed them to darken the room. He tried one more time to sleep. Daniel opened up his eyes, to see Chris asleep. His heart pounded against his chest like a hammer. “What happened? Why were they in the same bed?” Daniel asked himself. Did they do something. Daniel sat up on the edge of the bed and gathered his thoughts. He wanted to wake up Chris and ask him what happened but he didn’t want to wake him, but he went for it anyway. “Chris, Chris wake up, what happened last night?” “You got so drunk last night and passed out in my car and threw up all over the place.” “What did we do I woke up beside you in your bed?” “Nothing happened you fell of the couch and I laid you down in my bed so I can keep and eye on you. I didn’t want you to die on me man.” Chris said. “Well okay as long as we didn’t do anything, what about the girls?” “They went home after you passed out.” “So I didn’t make a fool out of myself?” “No you didn’t everything was fine.” “Did we end up having s*x?” “Who?” “Heather and me?” “No, like I said you were to far out of it to do anything, Daniel we had to help you out the bar last night that is how far gone you were.” “Damn, for real?” “Yes for real.” “Damn, I am sorry man.” “Don’t be sorry Danny, it was nothing I would rather you drink with me, instead of some one else and something happen to you.” “Yeah thanks from what I remembered I had a good time.” “You are welcome, I figured we could do something else before I left if you wanted I mean?” “Yeah that would be great, when you do leave Chris please keep in touch with me.” “I will stay in touch.” “Good, well I am going to get going Chris, I am sure that my parents will be pissed off that I didn’t show up.” “They were fine with it, I called them and told them that you were going to be at my house.” “How mad were I they because I wasn’t there for their party?” “Not to mad, she was upset that you didn’t show up. But you are an adult you can make your own choices.” “Yeah, they will be alright. Chris can I ask you something?” “Yeah I guess what is it?” “It is crazy, but would you ever date some one older than you?” “What, why would you ask me that are you seeing some one?” “No, it was just a crazy idea.” “Well if you want to date some one younger or older than you that is your choice also.” “Yeah I was just thinking about it.” “Okay.” “I mean since you are younger than me I didn’t know what your thought of it was.” “I don’t have a problem with it. Well I am going to get in the shower.” “Okay I am going to head to the house.” “All right, text me later.” Chris replied. Daniel grabbed his keys and phone and made his way to his car. His head was pounding. He did not want to deal with his parents or listen to them complain about why was not home. Daniel put the car in park and turned it off. He sighed and opened up the door. “Daniel it is about time you come home, your mother and I have been worried sick about you.” His dad snapped. “Leave me alone, I am going to get a shower, and go to bed.” Daniel replied and headed up to his room. Daniel slammed the door behind him, and tossed his keys and phone down on the bed. He turned on the shower and stripped off his clothes and stepped in. The warm water cascaded over his naked body felt amazing and relaxing. Daniel still couldn’t shake the thought off waking up to Chris laying bed beside him. If seeing him in the shower naked wasn’t bad enough, they wake up together. Daniel didn’t bother putting his back on instead he went straight to his bed. He pulled down the comforter flinging his keys and phone to the bottom of the bed. His head still pounding from the massive hang over from last night he snuggled down into the crisp sheets and pulled up the comforter around his head. He closed his eyes and sighed, until he heard the door open. “Danny are you okay?” his mom said poking in her head. “Yeah I am fine.” “Ignore your father he is in a bad mood.” “I am sorry I didn’t come home last night, I was to drunk to drive so I stayed at Chris’s house.” “I know he called me, that is why your father was mad when you came in.” “I am an adult.” “I know he doesn’t like your drinking, he is afraid that you will end up an alcoholic like he was.” “I am not going to get that bad mom.” “Do you want some tea or anything?” “No I just want this headache to go away.” “Hold on I will be right back I will bring you some aspirin for it.” “Thank you mom.” “You are welcome, just wait right here.” She returned from the bathroom with the aspirin and a glass of water. “Here take this and relax.” “Thanks mom.” “Do you need anything else?” “No, I am fine.” “Okay I will be back in to check on you in a little while.” “Okay.” “Get some sleep, I know that you probably slept at Chris’s house, but its not your own bed.” She pulled the blankets up around Daniel and tucked him in. “If you need anything just call for me.” “I will mom, can you close the door and pull the curtains closed?” “Yes.” She replied and left Daniel to sleep Chapter two Two days had passed since Daniels birthday and Chris was leaving. He had his BMW loaded down with everything and his parents American Express credit card. Daniel pulled in behind Chris’s car. Chris came around the corner of the house. “Leaving so soon?” Daniel asked. “Yeah, I have to be at the school for orientations. I know I said we would do something before we left but I got to go.” “Well that is why I came over to see you before you left.” “I will call you when I get settled in if you want me to?” Chris asked. “Yeah that would be nice.” Daniel laughed. “Well man I got to get going and head for North Carolina.” “Okay.” Chris pulled Daniel close and hugged him before getting in his car. He waved goodbye to his parents and drove off. A heart broken Daniel drove back home, with his best friend gone he didn’t know what to do with himself. He opened the door and went inside and sat down beside his mom. “What is wrong, Danny?” She asked. “Yeah you look like you lost your best friend.” His dad added. “Well I did I went over to Chris’s and he was leaving for school.” “Good that kid was trouble.” “No he wasn’t dad, you didn’t know him.” “That is enough you two. Danny you will find some one else to hang out with and forget about Chris.” “That is just it mom I don’t want we had done everything together.” “You act like he was your boyfriend or lover.” “Stan that is enough, our son is not gay.” “He better not be.” His father snapped. Daniel sat back hard on the couch and crossed his arms. He was missing Chris already. Daniel had wished that hey could have had on last time together before he left. He stopped hanging out with the girls after Chris left. “Danny you will find some one else to do things with.” “I know mom but Chris and I had some much in common, we did everything together.” “I know but you have to think of him, he was a kid and well you are an adult. He had to do what was good for his life and you need to find a good woman and settle down and work on your career.” “Mom I just turned twenty one, I am not ready to settle down yet.” “I am just saying, and you never brought a girl around.” “Really mom are you going to start the gay thing like dad, what if I was gay would you think different of me? After all I am your only son.” “You know that your father and I would love you just the same.” “Right.” Daniel said sarcastically. “We will.” “Yeah well I am going to my room.” Daniel marched up the steps to his room and closed the door. He did his usually thing throwing his phone and keys on his bed. He was second guessing his sexuality, he did enjoy seeing Chris naked and waking up beside him felt right. Daniel decided to leave for the day to clear his mind. “Where are you going Daniel?” “I am going out Dad.” “You just came in who do you have to go see now?” “I need to go clear my head.” “Be back for dinner.” Daniel rolled his eyes and went out the door. “Where is he going?” “He said he had to go out and clear his head.” “Maybe we were to hard on him about Chris leaving, he was Daniels best friend.” “And he was a child compered to our son.” “Well I wish he would find some one.” “Me too, me too.” Meanwhile Daniel drove passed Chris’s house to the local coffee shop. He parked his car beside a little red corvette. The shop was packed with people working on their laptops and chatting with friends. It smelled of different types of coffee. Long counters holding coffee pots and creamers, a fridge for milk and a dishwasher with damp mugs sitting on it. Daniel approached the barista and placed his order. He looked a round at the room trying to find a table. He found a booth with a young man sitting alone. Daniel walked over to him “Is this seat taken?” He asked. “No please sit down.” The young man said softly. “Thank you.” Daniel replied. He noticed that he was writing. “What are you writing?” Daniel asked. “A paper for school.” “Cool, what about?” “It’s an essay for my creative writing class.” “What are you majoring in?” “I am going to school to be a teacher.” “That is great. My name is Daniel by the way.” “Cole, Cole Bryant.” “Nice to meet you Cole.” “You as well.” “This may sound crazy but if you need any help on your paper I can help you, I majored in English and language arts.” “Thank you, can you look over it for me?” “Yes I can.” Daniel and Cole chatted about everything and anything, he proofread his paper for him. They even exchanged numbers, to Daniel talking to Cole filled the emptiness he felt for Chris. “I hope that you don’t mind that I am gay.” Cole asked. “No I don’t mind.” “Great some people don’t like it.” “Well doesn’t bother me.” “You seem like something is bothering you, Daniel.” “Well my best friend moved away for collage. After he promised that he would stay here in West Virginia.” “Oh I don’t mean to be rude or anything when I ask you this, was he your boyfriend?” “No, no not at all.” “Oh I was just asking, because I was seeing a boy named Chris who hadn’t came out to his family. I was a secret.” “I am sorry.” “Don’t be that is why I asked. Because he was leaving for school.” “Really?” “Yeah.” Daniel got to thinking what if his Chris was the same one of that of Cole’s. It can’t be Chris wasn’t gay. “What is his last name?” Daniel asked. “I would rather not say for privacy reasons.” “That is fine.” “Daniel I know that you are not gay but would like to go out sometime? I mean as friends that is if you want to?” “Yeah we can do that, what did you have in mind?” “I don’t know yet.” Cole giggled. “I think I have an idea, why don’t we get some food and then go to the movies.” “That sounds good to me. Just let me know then you want to do it I am free in the evening and on the weekends.” Cole said. “Okay how about this weekend we do it?” “Okay.” Cole smiled. Daniel learned that Cole was nine teen years old and from New York. He dressed like a normal teenager, in jeans and tee shirts with his hair cut short. Daniel loved his deep brown eyes. He had a killer smile to die for. If he was gay Cole would be the one next to Chris he would love to be with. Cole reached a crossed the table and grabbed Daniels hand and held it his for a second and smiled. Daniel didn’t move his hand, it felt right. Maybe he liked men, and Cole was put in his life for a reason. “Well I have to get going, talk to you later.” Cole said gathering up his things. “Here I will walk you out to your car, which one is it?” “The red Corvette.” “Well then I parked beside you.” “I guess we were supposed to meet then.” Cole laughed. “I guess so.” “Come here give me a hug good bye.” Cole smiled and wrapped his arms around Daniel. Daniel watched Cole leave in the rearview mirror. He didn’t want to let Cole go, he wanted the hug to be longer. Happy that he had met Cole, Daniel made his way back home. When he walked into the living room. “You are in a good mood, what did you do?” “I met some one mom. We are going out this weekend.” “Good when do we get to meet her?” “Its not a her it’s a him.” “Well okay then. You are not doing anything with him.” “We met at the coffee shop, I was helping him with his school work. His name is Cole and he is nine teen.” “Daniel what is it with you and young friends?” “He isn’t that much younger than me Dad, besides who are you to tell me who I can hang out with anyway?” “Well you are living under my roof.” “I can fix that easily. I can move out.” “How do you plan on paying for everything? You work at a fast food joint you cant afford your own place.” “How do you know, if I have to I will find a room mate.” “Daniel you don’t have to move out, You two need to stop arguing about every little thing.” Daniel got up and went to the kitchen and poured a glass of milk. “Danny I am sorry about your father I don’t know what has gotten into him.” “I don’t know but he is pissing me off.” “Tell me about your friend. What is his name Cole?” “Yes, he has a great personality and down to earth. I am not saying that Chris will be replaced but he and I hit it off pretty good.” “That is good, I am happy that you found some one to take your mind off of him. I know how close You and Chris were.” “Yeah, mom can I ask you something?” “Yes, sure what is it?” “If I was gay would I be accepted or would be the black sheep?” “You know I would accept you no matter what. Why do you ask?” “Come here I don’t want dad to hear this, but the night I went out with Chris, I woke up beside him, and I watched him get dressed. I think I did have feelings for him.” “That is normal for your have a crush on your best friend. And the bed thing he told me what had happened and that he had done it so that he could keep and eye on you, he said that you were throwing up.” “That is what he told me.” “So is your little friend gay?” “Yes, and I don’t want dad to say anything to him if I bring him over.” “He wont trust me I will set him straight.” “Yeah, I am hoping that we can become good friends.” “So do I Danny so do I.” Daniel’s phone started ringing he looked down, he didn’t recognize the number but something told him to answer it. “Hello?” “Hey Daniel it is Cole, how are you?” “Good, it is nice to hear from you.” “I couldn’t stop thinking about you and I wanted to thank you for helping me with my paper.” “It is no problem, any time you need help I am here.” “Thank you I was wondering do you like horror movies?” “Yes I do why?” “Well there is one that is playing this weekend if you want to go see it?” “We can do that.” “Okay, I just wanted to say thank you and tell you about the movie. My mom is cooking dinner.” “Okay talk to you later.” “Okay bye.” “Who was that?” Daniels mom asked. “That was Cole, he wanted to thank me for helping him and about a movie we plan to go see this weekend.” “Oh okay. What do you want for dinner?” “I don’t know I am not really hungry I had a sandwich at the coffee shop.” “Okay. If you get hungry I will make you something, your dad and I all ready ate too.” Daniel couldn’t wait to see Cole this weekend, he was looking forward to it. He never got this excited over Chris. His phone went off again this time it was a text message from Cole. A smile floated a cross his face, and giggled. Cole had sent him a funny picture of him with a filter of dog ears and tongue. Chris had never sent him funny things like that. They sent texts back an forth all day and into the night. Daniel’s heart melted when Cole sent a photo of his smiling face. “What are you smiling at?” Daniels dad asked. “Just a photo that a friend showed me.” “Really it must be a good one.” “It is a picture of Cole do you want to see it?” “No I am good, why don’t you invite him over for dinner so your mom and I can meet him.” Shocked at what he was hearing his father had changed his mind about him having a younger friend. He asked to bring him over some time. “I will have to ask him, dad after all we had just met today. And I thought you didn’t like me having younger friends.” “Well I cant tell you who to hang out with, but if he makes you get out of the house and stop moping around about Chris he is welcome.” “I will ask him this weekend, we are going to catch a movie.” “Okay.” His dad replied shaking the newspaper trying to straighten it up. “Its getting late I need to get up early for work. I am going to get a shower and go to bed.” “It is only eight o’clock.” “I know if I cant sleep ill come back down.” “Whatever where is your mother?” “in the kitchen.” Daniel wasn’t going to bed, he the urge to pleasure himself. Saturday was only two days away, and they would see each other. Daniel tossed and turned dreaming about Chris and Cole. He dreamed that Chris had showed up and told him that he wanted to a relationship but he was already in one with Cole. In his dream he had to make the decision between the two. Cole who he had just met or his best friend Chris. In his dream he wanted them both, he wanted to be with Cole and still have Chris as a friend or the other way around. Either way he wanted both in his life. He hadn’t been asleep for very long when he heard the door open it was his mother coming in to check on him. “Danny, are you okay?” “Yes mom just trying to sleep I have to be in at six thirty in the morning.” “Okay I wanted to check on you I thought maybe your father had said something to you again.” “No.” “Okay goodnight.” “Goodnight.” Daniel pulled the covers up around his head and snuggled down in them. He tried going back to sleep, but couldn’t instead he lay in bed starring up at the ceiling. The dream still fresh in his head the thought of what he had done to the thought of Cole. Maybe he should give it a try and explore his sexuality it only makes since that he wasn’t turned on by girls, seeing them naked was something he didn’t want no part of. He had never been so happy than he was now Two days had passed since Daniel took Sylvia to meet his parents and he took her up on her offer of moving in with her, and he did get the job as head cook at the hospital. He loved the job at the hospital granted he and Sylvia worked odd hours than each other but some how they managed to make time for one another. They would spend holidays and birthdays together.
