After reaching her Aunt’s place she ushered towards the living room where all are waiting for them.
First of all she moved towards her grandmom and greeted her lovingly “Sat Sri Akaal Biji.”
(“Sat Sri Akaal” is a greeting exchanged with everyone in the Sikh community. ‘Sat’ means "truth", ‘Sri’ is an honorific word and Akaal means "the timeless being, God"; thus the phrase can roughly be translated as "True is the name of God".
Sat Sri Akaal is exclusively used by Sikhs to greet each other, as their tenth Guru (master) gave them the jaikara, "Bole So Nihal, Sat Shri Akaal". The saying implies that ‘The one will be blessed eternally who says that God is the ultimate truth.’)
(And ‘Biji’ is the endearment used for grandmother)
Her grandmother smiled brightly as she pulled Noor in a motherly hug and said lovingly, “Oh Meri Noor aagyi, haye main sadke jaanva meri dhi de, tenu hi udeek ri si mein. Kithe reh gayi si tu? Tenu pata hai kinni pareshaan ho gayi si mein tere layi?”
(Oh my Noor has come, I can willingly sacrifice myself for your safety and wellbeing my daughter, I was waiting for you eagerly, where have you been? Do you know how much worried I was for you?)
“Oh Biji, mein galti naal so gayi si metro vich, te meinu pata hi ni lageya kad mera station nikal gaya te mein 5 station agey pahunch gayi.”she told her grandmum making her best puppy face eyes still in her embrace.
(Oh Biji, I slept in my metro mistakenly and I didn’t realized when I missed my station and reached 5 station ahead.)
She kissed her Biji and asked for her aunt, mom and Preet. Biji told her that they are in kitchen, preparing dinner for us.
So she headed toward kitchen where all ladies gang where having chit-chat while preparing dinner for all.
She went near them and said “Sat Sri Akaal, Chachiji, Sat Sri Akaal ma, Hi Preet, whats going on here?”
(‘Ma’ is an endearment used for mother and ‘Chachiji’ is used to call Wife of Father’s younger brother. Here Chachiji is Preet and Deep’s mother.)
All asked her (Noor) about today’s train incident and she explained.
After all dishes are ready Noor found some alone time with Preet and she let her knew the actual reason of of earlier incident.
She told her that she was thinking about the consequences if something like this happens with her.
After a while she spoke irritatedly, “Soon you will get married Preet and I am damn sure that after your marriage my mother will be after me with lots of marriage alliances and saying your younger sister is married you should also get married or what will our society think about you.” And her Ma will also say, “Loki ki kehangey, Choti da viyaah pehle ho gya , vaddi da ni hoya, jaroor koi kami hoyegi edey vich”
(What will people say that younger sister got married and elder is still unmarried, there must be some imperfection in her)
“What….what rubbish are you talking?” Preet asked her.
