**Veronica** I tapped my foot on the ground while staring at the plate of fried chicken in front of me. I could hardly swallow, not because I'm not hungry but because of the atmosphere around the table. “My love, you should eat more, I don't want you starving, you know.” “Oh, darling, you're a goddess sent indeed. Not to worry, for your sake I'll eat more,” my dad said, scooping more salad into his mouth. Seeing him act like a child in front of Tatiana made me feel sick to the stomach. I slowly took my gaze to my side where my boyfriend, Lawrence, sat staring at me. He must have noticed just how irritated I felt in front of the dinner table, seeing how he carefully patted me on the back of my hand with a smile on his face. He's such a caring soul, and I wonder what I did to deserve someone as gentle as him. “Dad, can you pay attention to the reason I'm here, please?” My dad quickly took his gaze towards my direction with eyes wide open. “My goodness! Please forgive me, child. You know, when I'm with my wife, I seem to forget about my environment.” This made me bite hard on my bottom lips that it almost bled. “So young man, you're my daughter's long-time boyfriend, is it?” “Y…yes Alpha,” Lawrence replied with a slight stutter and I understand why. This was the first time he's actually meeting the Alpha of the Nightshade pack, which is the strongest of all packs except one. Well, I'm not going to dwell on the overall strongest, as that doesn't concern me now. What concerns me is the shameless ex best friend of mine, who is sitting right next to my father with a smiling face. “So, you say you're from what pack?” “I'm from the Red Moon Pack, Alpha.” “And what position do you hold?” When my dad asked this, I could see my boyfriend's expression change into that of fright. “Dad!” I called out quickly. “What? Can't I ask my future son-in-law about the position he holds in the Red Moon Pack?” “I'm the Alpha's gamma, Sir.” Shit! My dad will surely not like this. “Excuse me, a gamma?” “My goodness! This made me fold my hands into a fist. “Shut the f**k up, Tatiana, you don't get to talk when I'm having a discussion with my father!” I lashed out. “Language, Veronica!” My dad said aloud. “Have you no respect for my Luna? Your stepmother?” “Dad, please let's not go down that lane. You know how I feel about her!” “Why don't you start by accepting her now? We've been married for three years now, why wouldn't you acknowledge her as your Luna?” This made me hit my spoon on the desk in rage, causing everyone to jolt in fright. “There's ever going to be only one woman as the Luna of the Nightshade pack, and that's no one else but my mother!” “She wasn't just your mother but my Luna as well. But you've got to understand that she's dead, and the pack needs a new Luna.” “A new Luna? And you think that Luna is Tatiana?” “You will talk to my Luna with respect, Veronica!” My dad snapped. This broke my heart badly. My dad has never been this harsh on me before. Things changed after he got married to Tatiana. “I'm your daughter, dad. You can't belittle me in front of your wife!” “If you don't like seeing your stepmom, then I plead with you to get married. You can be with…what's your name again?” My dad asked, referring to my boyfriend. “It's Lawrence, Alpha.” “Good, why don't you get married to Lawrence. I promise I'll sponsor the wedding.” When he said this, I noticed how Tatiana chuckled lightly at his words. I can't do this anymore, and so quickly stormed out of the room in rage. “Veronica, come back here!” My dad yelled, but he knows better than to command me in front of Tatiana. “Veronica, I said get back here!” While I stormed out, I noticed Lawrence followed behind me. “My love, please wait!” Just before I could get to my room, he suddenly grabbed me by the hand and turned me around to face him. “Veronica, my love. Please don't be like this.” He wiped the tears that fell down my cheeks. “This is the reason I never wanted to bring you here. Lawrence, please do not feel offended by the attitude of my dad. He's usually not a petty man. But ever since Tatiana came into his life, I don't even recognize my dad anymore.” “It's okay, I understand how you feel. But there's nothing we can do about it. From What I see, I could tell that your dad is truly in love with Tatiana.” “That b***h! This is all my fault. I never should have brought her home with me on my dad's birthday three years ago. This whole madness started after I took her home.” “Love, you can't keep blaming yourself for what happened. You told me you needed your dad to be married, right?” “Yes I said that, but I never expected it would be Tatiana! You know, Tatiana doesn't love my father. You know about her history, don't you?” “Well, I do. But you know, I can't actually tell whether she loves your dad or not. You know we don't talk right.” “I don't even want you to have anything to do with that b***h!" “Calm down, sweetheart. I don't want you getting mad over someone who isn't worth it.” I stared at Lawrence. I'm so lucky to have him in my life. Just as I was about speaking to him, his phone buzzed. “I'm sorry, love, I think I need to take this call.” “Go ahead then,” I replied, smiling at him. I watched him walk away from me to take the call. While I waited, I couldn't help but wonder who could have been calling him that he couldn't answer the call in my presence. Probably a call from his Alpha, I guess. Though, Lawrence had taken a week off from pack activities in his pack. This is because I want him to be here until my dad's birthday celebration, and also I wanted him to spend time with my dad, so my dad could see just how sweet of a man Lawrence is to me. I waited for Lawrence for some minutes, but he still didn't show up. Now I'm beginning to wonder who he was talking to.
