“That too.” Hui-Ying looked at her. As soon as they reached a stairway to the castle, Amethyst noticed statues of animals sitting on the stone steps. She stared at them, and it seemed as if they were watching her. “Is it just me, or are they looking at us?” “Who?” Hui-Ying asked. “The animal statues.” Amethyst pointed. Hui-Ying looked at them. “How can you tell?” “Don’t you see the faces?” “No. None of the stones have faces.” “Don’t stop walking,” Lilith said as she strolled past the statues. “Also, don’t stare at them. They don’t like it.” “How do you know?” Amethyst asked. Lilith grinned as she turned her head. “A guess.” Amethyst raised an eyebrow but said nothing more about it as she followed Lilith up the stairway.
