Chapter NineLilith heard birds chirping, and she opened her eyes to stare at the sky but was met with a metal ceiling. She sat up and noticed that she was inside a cage with some birds, who were making the noise. Lilith tried to speak, but her throat ached. A pain shot through her leg when she tried to stand, and she saw that it was bound to twigs. Lilith was still in her bird form and wondered how she had gotten there and who had helped her. Scanning the place, it was a makeshift tent with poles and rope holding it down. By the entrance was a flap half-opened, and some of the sunlight entered. The inside of the camp had many cages with birds. On some of the enclosures were wooden planks with writing. Within one of them was a large white bird calling out. Lilith read the script to herself;
