Chapter TwelveThe sound of horses stomping the ground awakening Lilith from her slumber. She opened her eyes to see it was dark because the cage was covered. Lilith stood up and lifted the sheet. She viewed that the pen was inside a tent. Quiyue was being tended by her mother, who was brushing her hair and humming a song. Lilith rolled her eyes and grabbed a seed and tossed it at Quiyue’s face. She looked at what had hit her and gazed at Lilith, who held the sheet up with her wing. Quiyue told her mother that the owl was hungry. “How do you know?” “I can tell.” She walked to the cage and leaned towards Lilith. “Are you hungry?” “No, and I’m not your pet,” she whispered. “Don’t say that.” Quiyue removed the cover. “I will take good care of you.” “Then how about you let me go?” “Quiyue
