3 - What am I?

Todd’s POV

That little ass wipe didn’t die from being rejected. Ana told me the day she turned 18 she was mated to the wrong brother and I came up with the idea of getting rid of him from that time on. It was easy; she'd been chasing after me since she was 14, and I only had s*x with her to destroy Error. He wasn’t fazed by it; not one iota. I thought if I told Ana, I wanted her to be my Luna and get her to reject him, that would surely be the end of him.

He didn’t care about that either. He stood tall and accepted the rejection and rejected her as well. Now I have a w***e who I promised to be my Luna, when I don’t want a Luna. And a mongrel of a brother who refuses to die.

I pushed him back in his corner, like the feral dog he is. I didn’t lock the chains, hoping he would take the hint and leave. I don’t need the responsibility. He needs to piss off and live in the gutter where he belongs.

“Toddy, bubby; you will be late for the ceremony” Anastasia said turning to face me from my dresser. I hate it when she calls me Toddy. It sounds like she is talking to a toddler.

“My name is Todd; not Toddy, and definitely not bubby. I am not two f*****g years old” I yelled at her.

“Sorry, Todd. You will be late for the ceremony. Guests are already starting to arrive” she exclaimed as I picked up my jacket and walked down the stairs. At least I don’t have to do the introductions with her.

As I get to the bottom of the stairs, I look over at the corner where Error is just lying there, watching everyone coming through the doorway. For f**k’s sake, can’t he take a hint? What is the fuckhead still doing in the corner? I looked around me and there were guests arriving. I'm hoping he is waiting for the hallway to be empty. At least he wasn’t stupid to try and do it with dad around, I thought to myself as Alpha Henry and Luna Jade from the neighboring Cedar Pack arrived.

“Henry, Jade; how good it is to see you again” my father greeted them as Alpha Henry bowed at him.

“It’s good to see you too; this is my daughter, Claudia” Alpha Henry introduced the gorgeous brunette. Mmm, she’s smoking. Why haven’t I met her before? I wouldn’t mind a piece of that ass.

“Claudia; it’s nice to meet you” I said with my perfect, winning the girls over, smile. She nodded at me and looked over at the corner. How dare she just nod at me? I’m the best catch she could get around here.

What is she looking at anyway? Oh, the dweeb in the corner. The smell must be putting her off; “How about we go into the dining area” I smiled, ushering them to the dining room. Now I can turn on my charm. If I play my cards right, I will have some of those luscious titties in my mouth by the end of the night.

We all took our seats; me, at the head table with Dad on one side and, oh s**t, Anastasia on the other side of me. How am I meant to win the heart of the gorgeous brunette with her around? I looked over at Claudia and gave her another smile. “Welcome everyone to a momentous occasion. We are here to celebrate the passing of myself as Alpha to my son Todd. Enjoy the meal, and we will begin the ceremony shortly”, Dad announced as Omega Josie came out with some food and refreshments.

I picked up my glass of champagne and tilted it toward Claudia before taking a sip. Thankfully, Ana is too preoccupied in her discussions with my Beta, Timothy, and my Gamma, Rick, to care.

I smiled at Claudia again as she leaned in and whispered something in her father’s ear. Must be how much she wants to get to know me. “James; who is that boy outside in the corner of the building?” Henry asked Dad.

“Hmm, what boy?” Dad asked. He’s seething as much as I am. They want to know about Error.

“The one when we came inside the packhouse” Henry answered, raising his eyebrows at dad. He wasn’t fooled by dad pretending he didn’t know who he was talking about.

“Oh, you mean the slave. He is being punished for killing the Luna” Dad said indifferently, waving his hand as though it wasn’t worth his while to chat about Error.

“Really? He murdered your mate? How?” Jade asked, looking very confused at our confession. Just existing is how he killed her, der.

“I would rather not talk about it right now; this is a celebration” Dad answered, trying to move the conversation away from him.

I finished the last bit of potato on my plate when I saw the little turd in question coming into the dining hall and heading over to the ceremony table; “What the f**k are you doing in here?” I screamed as the whole hall fell silent. He stared at me, then looked over at where Claudia, Henry and Jade were sitting. “I asked you; what the f**k are you doing in here?” I screamed again.

He smirked at me while picking up the ceremonial knife. “Error; put the knife down”, Beta Simon said calmly, getting out of his seat and putting his hands up in front of him.

Error smirked grew wider; “No" he spluttered.

I get out of my chair and to my surprise Claudia gets up too. I smiled at her; she was standing beside me on this. “Error, is that what he called you? Strange name for someone” Claudia said to him calmly, walking towards where he was standing.

“It’s the name my father gave me. He said it was because I was a mistake being born, when my mother died during childbirth” he seethed as I suppressed a snicker from coming out of my mouth.

“Please, Error, put the knife down, and I will help you” she said calmly, taking another few steps toward him.

Good plan; maybe if we stay calm, he will leave. “Error; we don’t want to fight you. You are free to leave” I said calmly, moving my way to join Claudia.

“I don’t want a fight, Big Brother. I want this knife for something else” he seethed, as gasps sounded around the room.

For f**k’s sake, Error is going to cop it. When I was done, he would have wished he had left without another word. “Error, please let us help you” Claudia said again, as he cackled at her.

“Help? Let me guess; help us with target practice, I’m the target. Or help with this branding iron, see if it does the trick for the cattle” he spat, and I let off a chuckle. They were good times. “No, I’m done with my asshole father and his pack” he screamed, unsheathing the knife and placing it against his neck.

“Well do it then” I yelled, hoping he would do it, and we could get back to what everyone came here for.

“No; you’re…you’re…” Claudia sobbed as Error interrupted her before she could finish “Sorry; Claudia” he whispered, giving me a sinister look. She screamed as Error plunges the knife into the side of his neck, and he falls to the ground.

“Good Riddance” I smiled. Claudia dropped to the ground, sobbing as I moved to put my arms around her.

“Get away from me, prick” she growled, pushing my arm away. Did she just growl at me? The Alpha of this pack?

Henry and Jade raced over to Error and put a bandage on his neck. “Let’s get him to our hospital”, Henry said, picking him up and carrying him out the door with Claudia following behind him. I headed back to my table. I’m glad that asshole just killed himself. I would have killed him for spoiling my night and the only chance to have Claudia in my bed.

Error’s POV

I did it! I killed myself on the night of my brother’s Alpha Ceremony. Sucks to be him; all those Alpha’s and Luna’s finding out the truth and probably walking out of there. I opened my eyes and saw a waterfall glistening in the moonlight. There is a stone bench in front of the waterfall and a brown wolf sitting beside it. “Jesse?” I called out to my wolf.

He turned his head, “Danny” he said, smiling back at me.

I sat down on the bench and started patting behind his ears; “I’m sorry I had to kill you too. I couldn’t bear it any longer”, I told him as he released a breath.

“It’s OK; I told you we were in this together” he responds, nudging my leg.

I look at my surroundings; “is this the afterlife?” “Not exactly”. A woman’s voice came out of the shadows, answering me immediately before Jesee could. I looked over to where the voice was coming from. “This is the area where wolves and humans come to meet me, before moving on” she said, coming out of the shadow. Her beauty was breathtaking. Her silver hair streamed down her back and her blue gown flowed to the ground.

“Goddess Selene” I whispered as she smiled at me.

“Error” she continued to smile as I cringed at the name. “Sorry, I should call you Danny. Isn’t that the name your mother was going to give you?” she asked.

“Yes” I replied, looking down at my feet as she came to sit beside me.

“Why did you want to come back to me, Danny?” she questioned.

“I-I ahh” I stammered. How can I tell her, I wanted to kill myself because she refused to help me get away from my tormentors? Never answer any of my prayers.

“I know you prayed for death many times, which I did not answer, Danny. There is a reason for this. Jesse prayed for you to be strong and able to stand up to your father and brother, which you did on many occasions” she said, putting her arm around my shoulder.

“You saw what they were doing to me. The hurt; the abuse; from the moment I was born. All because mum died from complications with my birth” I yelled, pulling away and standing up from the bench. I didn’t mean to take it out on her; I was frustrated and angry at everyone for putting me through this.

“I did” she answered as my face dropped at hearing her. “And they will stand here as you are now and be judged for what they have done to an innocent child.”

“Will I be seeing my mother and grandmother now?” I asked our goddess.

She looked at me and smiled; “you are here; but it’s not your time to move on. It was never your time. Jesse did more than pray for your strength. He also prayed for his one true mate. He was hoping you would see her, before you found out about Anastasia. But I couldn’t change the bond unless the rejection was given, and you both needed the rejection”, she said to me. I don't understand? How can Jesse have one true mate? Or me, I thought we only got one mate.

“Anastasia and I had to reject one another?” I asked her, a tear falling down my face.

“You and Anastasia were paired for a reason. A reason that will be revealed soon enough” she tells me as I glance up in her direction. “You have your true mate; one of my chosen. You both need one another” she continues; giving me a smile.

“Really?” I gasped in astonishment, then dropped my head again and sat back on the bench. The realization of being dead, and I won’t be with my mate, hit me like a ton of bricks.

“You aren’t dead, Danny” she said.

I looked at our goddess as another tear trickled down my face. “Then why am I here?” I asked her, confused at what she was telling me.

“I wanted to talk to you" she answered as I pursed my lips. "I wanted to tell you what a strong man you are and will be. Your mate is closer than you think." If I’m not dead. And I’m not alive. What am I? “I am sending you back; you have a chance to be who you need to be.”

“And what exactly is that?” I questioned, still confused about everything she was telling me.

“That is something you will need to discover for yourself. I can’t give away all your secrets” she answered, smiling and standing up from the bench.

I contemplated what my Goddess had just told me; “Claudia”, I said aloud. Jesse picked his head up off the ground; I know he reacted to her scent too. “Her scent; Strawberries and Mint” I smiled, as the thought of her scent hits me again. “Selene; why do I get to be with her?”

“Because you deserve it, and she deserves you” she answered, smiling proudly at me.

“Jesse, are you ready to go back?” I asked the brown wolf as he wagged his tail, coming over and nudging my leg.

“Danny, before you go” Selene said as I turned to glance at her again. “Trust is hard to give, once trust has been broken. It is hard to repair and, in your case, it was broken on many occasions. You won’t forget what they did to you, and it’s your choice if you choose to forgive those that hurt you. But remember; revenge is not always the answer” she said, coming over and giving me a kiss on my forehead.

I smiled as my eyes fluttered shut, and I fell into the blackness again.
