Beatrice POV
Tears streamed down my face as I held my cheeks; the slap really hurt. And at some point, I thought I was nothing more than a slave. What my father was trying to do was approximately trying to sell off my happiness. I bet Clara saw this coming; that's why she made the choice to get herself f****d.
My lips purse with mumbling words as I comprehend deeply. I knew Wesley fairly well; we attended the same college, and he disliked me greatly. His choosing my sister doesn't even mean that he likes her; I'm fairly certain that he was forced into making the decision.
I lifted my hands and slightly wiped the tears off my face before taking a deep breath into my lungs, and gradually my eyes fell, and I slept.
The next morning, I woke up with a knock on my door. I slightly lifted my head; my eyes still felt sleepy as I gazed in the direction of the door.
“Who is there,” I shouted, my voice hitched with anger.
“It's your mom, open up the door.”
After realising it was my mom, I took a deep breath. Seeing her now would only remind me of my daydreaming nightmare of being a bride for the alpha.
"Sorry, Mum, but I would rather not see you, so go away,” I bluntly replied, my sleepy eyes gradually fading as I became more active.
“You know I won't leave until you open the door, right? I know you wouldn't want to stress your mom this way,” she said, softly.
I sighed. I knew my mom wouldn't leave as she had indicated, and to get over with all this, I finally chose to open the door for her.
Thereafter, I stood from my bed and then went over to my door and opened it.
My mom stepped in, her eyes darting around as if she had never seen my room before.
I sighed, then crossed my hands around my chest. “Mum, let's get over with this. Why are you here?”
My mom went over to my bed and sat. “I know what your father did yesterday was bad; he shouldn't have raised his hands on you.”
I narrowed my gaze away. Without saying a word. And my mom sighed before continuing. “Your sister Clara has disappointed us, and you know how the title of the Beta is very precious to your father; that's why he's so concerned about the ceremony and its progression. Any mistake now would plunge this pack to its downfall, and you fully know that. So Beatrice, I'm begging you not only as a mother but also as a friend to please accept being the alpha's bride to protect this family and this pack, please.”
My mom sounded so calm that her words sank into my heart. She also has this charm inside her words that when she speaks, I easily agree without question why. I guess this should be her superpower as a mother.
I sighed again, then walked toward my mother and sat on the bed beside her. "Mother, I'm scared. Wesley has hated me for no reason since we were in college. And secondly, did he even know his ideal bride had changed to me?”
“That shouldn't be a problem, darling; the only thing that matters now is getting over with the ceremony. Your father had spoken with Caprino, Wesley's father himself, and it seems he understood the situation,” my mom explained.
She softly placed her palms on my cheeks before speaking straight to my face. “Don't worry, you will be fine. Wesley is just harsh; that doesn't make him a monster.”
I sighed at my mother's words. I know she was just trying to look for something that would fit in, to convince me that Wesley is a good man.
"Okay, Mum, I accept to do as you have said,” I finally agreed, with a slight nod.
Though the decision remains certain, I have no choice or say in it. My mom was just trying to make me understand in order not to mess things up.
“Thank you, my sweetheart; exactly at 7pm, when the full moon appears, the ceremony begins, and you should get ready by then,” my mom gently poked me on the cheek before kissing me on the forehead and then making her way out of my room.
Soon, it was 7pm, and my dad had asked my sister Clara not to attend the ceremony, giving countless reasons.
I got dressed, putting on my black gown, one of my favourites. A gift given to me by my mother.
I walked out of the mansion, and a car was already waiting for me outside. Beside the car was my sister Clara standing.
I walked over to the car, not wanting to say a word to Clara, but her voice cut in. “I'm sorry you have to do this, but sometimes you don't know what might happen; maybe he could be your fated mate.”
When I lifted my gaze to Clara, I saw her sneering. I thought as much; I knew she wasn't saying that out of compassion; she was actually using it to mock me.
Just then my dad could be seen coming from the mansion door. He walked over to the car and opened the door for me to get in. He didn't even say a word to me; he didn't even apologise for the slap he had landed on me yesterday.
I got into the car, and so he got in as well. Apart from my father being the Beta to the previous alpha, he's also rich. I think all his wealth comes from the title he holds; that's why he tried his best not to jeopardise the opportunity.
Something I wonder if my dad was actually doing this deliberately just because he despises me.
I stare out the window as the car moves. The Lovato at which we were going is the Moonview Pack gathering. There the ceremony will be held, and the alpha will mark me as his.
All this while I thought only fated mates could be marked by each other. But in my condition, Wesley is not my mate; in fact, I feel very disgusted whenever he is close to me. My wolf hates his smell, and that alone is a red flag.
