Early the next morning, Fred woke up and took his bath. It was spring season and the clouds had gathered themselves in the sky. Fred's house to his mom's house was one hour, thirty minutes drive. "Elvis," Fred called one of his attendants. "Sir," he answered from his room. A few minutes later, the attendant came and first, knocked on the door. "Come in." He opened the door and stood in front of him. "Good morning Sir," he bowed. "Take that suitcase," Fred pointed at a black suitcase near the shoe rack. "Take it to the car." He added. Elvis took the suitcase and went away. He was one of the oldest attendants. He has an average height and he was close to forty. He was in charge of the other attendants and they must wake up by 4 AM. Elvis had worn his uniform. It was a black uniform, short sleeve shirt, with a round neck and black trousers. The hands of the shirt had a red band sewn at the tip and the same band was also around the neck of the shirt. Elvis went outside, down the stairs, to where all the cars were parked. Fred was a very organized man. Each day has its own car. That day, Fred will be using a blue limousine. Inside the car at the back, it has an L- shaped grey-colored chair facing a very dark furnished brown desk. The chair could be adjusted to a portable bed. On the desk, was an immovable small vase of rose flowers, a laptop, and some files. On the side, there was a mini-fridge, a small glass rack, and several suitcases. The glass of the car inside affects one's view. It has a calm effect when looking outside. Fred had ordered ancient gold from the Eastern part of the Mediterranean. It was a pair of earrings. Anna, Fred's mother, loved ancient jewelry. After drinking his hot coffee, Fred came out of the house. He wore black trousers, grey sleeves, and a very light brown sweater. His driver was already in the car. One of his bodyguards opened the back door and closed it after Fred had gently entered. The same guard entered the car and sat at the front. As soon as the car carrying Fred started moving, two other cars followed the car. One was a white Hilux and the other was a white Mercedes Benz. After one hundred and thirty minutes, the cars stopped in front of a duplex painted with oxblood. The compound was small and flowers planted in rolls surrounded the house. The sun was already out and the whole place was warm and bright. The guards came down and opened Fred's door. The sound of the cars made someone in the neighboring house peep through the window. That was Sophia, a neighbor, and classmate of Fred about thirteen years ago. She quickly closed the window and rushed into the bathroom to take her bath. Fred went to the door, and before he got there, one of the guards had pressed the bell. As Fred was getting closer, the guard decided to open the door. He thought the door was locked. As he turned the handle of the door, surprisingly, the door opened and he gave way for Fred to go in and two followed him. It was a four-bedroom duplex. Three rooms were upstairs and one, meant for visitors, was downstairs. As Fred entered the sitting room, he felt nostalgia, he took a deep, smiling breath and looked around. Whenever he entered this house, he remembered the feeling. This was the house he grew up in before his parents broke up. "Mum! Mum!!" The thought of his mum quickly replaced his childhood memories. And he quickly climbed the dark sparkling stairs and glided his left hand against the silver handrail. He went into his mum's room without knocking. One of the guards followed him and stopped midway on the stairs and waited there. Fred saw his mum lying down on her bed. She was still wearing her pink nightgown. Fred kissed her cheeks and quickly examined her with his eyes. "Mum…" "Son." Fred felt some ease in his heart, starting from the normal voice of his mother. "Get up, let's go to the hospital." Anna raised herself and placed her feet on the floor. "Fred please sit down." Anna was in her early fifties. She had a round face, small eyes, well-shaped cheeks, and thin red lips. Her hair was gleaming-brown and the tips were on her back. "Please, let go and see the doctor," Fred held her right hand and covered it with his other hand. "Seeing you alone gives me some relief. My illness does not need drugs." Fred bent his face and looked at his eyes and lips, the way she was gradually dropping her words. "So what does it need?" Anna used her two hands to pack her hair backward and turned her face towards Fred who had been waiting for her response. "I'm having a sickness of the heart." "Don't tell me you were having a slight heart attack yesterday?" There were great fears in his eyes. "Dad is sick, and you are also sick. Please, I don't want you to leave me." He brought out his phone and called James. "What are you doing?" She asked but Fred refused to answer. "James, call my doctor. Tell him to come to the old apartment right now." "It is not a medical heart attack, please stop the call," she spoke in between Fred's conversation with James. Fred ended the call after hearing a compelling reply from James. "What is it? What are you hiding? Do you want to die silently? What does your sickness need? If it is money, I will make it possible. If it demands sharing one of my organs with you, I will do it to save you. Please, don't put me under pressure." "I want a grandson." Her words collapsed Fred's enthusiasm. For a few seconds, he couldn't say anything. Though, his heartbeats came down. He looked at his mum, then looked at the floor, then looked at the window, then back to her face and he stood up. "Is that why you said you were sick?" He changed his voice and he became hostile. "Please, don't try this again. Never!" He added volume to his voice. "Fine, you can go. I will never call you again. I will take care of myself. I don't need your money, I don't need your calls." "Are you threatening me? You are betting on the love I have for you to make unreasonable requests. You brought me here, under the mask of illness. Who does this? If you want me to give you a grandson, why didn't you tell me on the phone? What do you take me for?" "I know, you have grown. You want to replicate your dad's attitude. Arrogant!" She splashed her last word on Fred's face. As of now, Sophia had entered the house, but the guards refused to let her go up. They could hear the high tone of Fred and his mother. "Can you repeat what you just said?" Anna stood up and went to her white curtains and opened them. She ignored Fred's words at first. "Mum, I'm talking to you." "It's obvious you. Years ago, your dad used to hit me, until I stood up against him. Probably, it is your turn to hit me too." She left her curtains and came back to the bed and sat down some distance away. Suddenly, Fred chortled and sat down. "Mum, do you know you are the only one who can act towards me like this? You are trying to use my emotions against me. Why do you want to hurt me? You know I love you. It hasn't gotten to this point." "Wait a minute, did I say anything wrong?" She asked. "No." He sharply replied. "Please," she lowered her voice. "I want you to get married. You have never brought a lady to this house and introduced her to me as your fiance." She paused and waited. Her gesture showed she was right. "Or you have a very high taste for a lady. I know, you are just like your dad. You have eyes for good things. Fred my baby," she caressed his right shoulder and smiled. "You are my baby because you are the only product of my womb. I cherish you so much and I cried day and night when you left me twelve years to stay with your dad. That was the biggest trauma I ever had in life. But I was glad, you frequently paid a visit. Please, I want you to get married. I want you to have a permanent woman by your side. Someone you will treasure. Someone you will bathe with your emotions. And guess what? I have seen someone for you. She is classic and beautiful. Together with your handsome looks, and your kids, my grandchildren will be adorable." She smiled. "Mother, wait. I have heard you. I'm working towards it." "Have you seen the love of your life?" She smiled with her eyes and gripped Fred's right hand. "No. I'm still searching." "Hm… okay," she shrugged. "But I have seen one for you and you know her very well. She has been assisting me right from the day you… abandoned me." "Mum, I didn't abandon you. Why will I abandon the one I love?" "She takes care of me. She massages my body when I'm stressed out. She shops for me, cleans the house, cooks for me, and brings my favorite meal when I'm sick. She will be a caring wife and a good mother." "And who is this person?" Fred asked. "Sophia, our neighbor's daughter. You know her very well." "My classmate from high school?" "Exactly," she exclaimed. "What do you think about her?" "Mom, it's like I'm missing something here. Have you prepared her to be my wife?" He touched his chest.
