The forest
This wasn't my plan. I only wanted one thing - to get rid of this damn gun.
The grass was still wet after the heavy rain and my entire dress became drenched while I ran across the field. Until I reached the forest, tall trees surrounded mealong with thickest fog I have ever seen in my life. I knew they would already be looking for me and which place would better conceal me than the shadow of the trees? I looked back and saw a dozen knights heading towards me on white royal horses. I had no choice but hide in the forest.
My foot landed on the softest moss and sank in it. I felt a chilling breeze coming from the depths of the forest and a weird desire to walk further. Once I put my other foot forward, I could feel how day turned into night within seconds. Somewhere far away, I heard the roar of some beast. Goosebumps rippled through my skin. I looked back, but all I saw were trees tangled by giant webs full of spiders. The knights had vanished.
I put my fingers around the pistol and stepped forward. I only needed to hide this gun far enough away so nobody could find out what I had done. Then, I could come back.
“I just need to walk little further,” I calmed myself.
A tiny bat flew over my head. I pointed the gun towards it.
“It's fine Eve. Just a tiny cute bat,” I whispered to myself. “I am not a whimp”. At least not after what I did...
I couldn’t see anything but dark trees and ravens looking at me from the top of silent aspens. I kept walking faster and faster letting wet webs hit my face. I didn’t care about the spiders crawling down my cheeks, hiding in my thick hair and tickling my ears. I knew I had to keep walking no matter what. I would just hide the gun any minute now and then I could leave. I’ll leave. Soon.
My eyes opened wide once I saw something different high up above the trees. It looked like the tower of some church or castle. In the woods?
I felt my necklace pounding on my chest as I started to walk so fast it was basically running. I had to get there, but where is there? I didn’t know, but it didn’t matter because my feet lead me through all the bushes and wet grass. I felt the soaked fabric of my dress sticking to my feet and slowing me down, but my I kept running until I stepped on my dress and ripped it. I couldn’t stop. I couldn’t. Only one thought was in my head:
“I must get there”.
The castle seemingly appeared out of nowhere right in front of me. My legs stopped moving as I finally caught my breath. It was gigantic. Black rocks piled up into four tall towers, a brown roof all wet and covered by dead leaves. The windows had no light in any of them, but the bridge was down over dark deep water of the river. I spotted the enormous heavy, oak-made doors that were open too.
I looked down at my left hand gripping the pistol so hard I couldn’t feel my fingers. I dropped it down to the river and it immediately disappeared. I turned around and stepped on the moss again to head back. But after I took couple of steps, I felt a strange desire to go back to the castle. I tried to ignore it, but after a couple moments, I couldn’t take any single step forward.
“I have to turn around,” I heard my lips whispering without my agreement. I took a few steps back and started to run through forest, but soon enough my legs just dropped dead and I fell to the ground.
“Go back,” A voice in my head called. “You have to go back”.
In a flash, I was there, back at the castle heading towards the door. I didn’t know what was inside, but I knew I had to go in there.
