Vince POV:
After agreeing to meet Ovaro at my private club west side Nevida. A half an hour drive later, I arrived and he was already seated at our usual spot.
The bartender came by and got our orders. I needed bourbon for what it seemed like was bad news. I also just wanted to get back to preparing things to go to the Cabin and spend time with Lexa....Yes, Lexa.
'What's going on?', I asked
'I think it's best I play you the recording. Remember when you asked me to monitor Mother's calls especially those with Dr. Steve..in case of an affair. Turns out it runs way deeper than that.' Ovaro said.
I c****d my eyebrow questioning what he meant but all he did was pass me a listening device which I took.
Listening to the call exchange between Dr. Steve and my mother..I was shaken to my core. I'm hardly this shaken.
Liars. All a bunch of liars. My wolf yelled in my head.
I was angry. I didn't know the tumbler in my hands had crushed until the waitress ran over to clean up and offer me first aid.
'Ovaro, find me a witch. I need answers. Also double the security detail accompanying us to the cabins. Make sure they are pack members that joined after Father's death and have no ties to him or my mother.' I said in a cold tone that shocked even myself.
'Vince, what are you going to do about Mother. She's still your mother. Whether or not she kept this from you...whatever THIS even means but you know how crazy your dad went with research into supernatural entities. It's possible she was wo-' Ovaro didn't finish his sentence before Vince banged his first against the bar table, smashing the glass top into a million pieces.
'I don't want to hear it. I gave her a chance to tell me anything today. I told her what I knew about Lexa..I never lie to her because I thought she deserved better after the Father's death and even before he died considering how he pushed her away because of his research. Don't bullshit me!
She decided to do this, she intentionally kept this from me and she will tell me why!' I half yelled at Ovaro.
Getting up, I exited the bar and drove back to the house. I know I shouldn't have yelled at Ovaro but he's my best friend and knows me better than anyone..he knows I didn't mean to yell at him.
I'll call him later to apologise but for now I needed to be alone and think. So I was cursed.
That witch in the council said this to during her trance one time. I had almost forgotten...I also had issues I was dealing with before meeting Lexa. Parking in the front porch and throwing the keys at one of my personal guards, I walked into the reception of the Mooncliff Towers and looked towards the gallery on the right where my Father's portrait hung.
Damien Mooncliff.
His sad eyes and light stubble spoke volumes in this very moment as I stared at his picture...
Why did he keep so many secrets? Why was he so engrossed with all that science and research? Was it because of the curse...the warlock's curse?
Shaking my head, I turned to leave but discovered I wasn't alone. Her scent hit me right in the face...walking into the east wing of the gallery. I saw a glimpse of red curls...
Lexa was here.
Lexa POV
I was restless, the maids has told me Vince stepped out in a hurry.
I wonder if everything's okay..
Looking around my apartment, I wondered whose this was before i came. I missed having someone to talk to. Everyone was walking on egg shells around me and i worried it also would affect how they accept me as their Luna.
I hadn't even seen Bella in a while. She was my friend at least. I was told she was the Alpha of the pack in the Cliff District so she had gone ahead of all of us to get things ready.
What a family! Both siblings were Alphas!
Their parents would be so proud I thought.
Suddenly it hit me that I knew close to nothing about this family. I remember seeing a gallery of the Mooncliff family ancestors on the ground floor.
Pulling on a light blue off shoulder blouse and a pair of jeans, I slipped into a comfortable pair of shoes and headed downstairs.
I didn't bother to comb through my hair. The curls have always been my most prominent feature. I liked it, i liked the way Vince would put his face in the croon of my neck, put his fingers in my hair and just inhale my scent.
I missed him. I didn't like how my issues were weighing down on him. It felt too much but he had assured me that he would find a way...that he didn't care.
I believed him.
I got downstairs and walked into the gallery.
Damien Mooncliff. James Mooncliff. Sara Mooncliff.
They all had similar facial features...dark raven hair and honey brown eyes.
Hmmm..
Honey Brown eyes. Something was tugging at my mind. I wondered further in, hoping to find a portrait of Vince or a picture even.
Further in the east wing of the gallery stood a tall shelf with books that likely were about the history of the Mooncliff family.
Smiling, I walked up to one of the books that was titled, 'Families of the Order'.
It looked like a book of spells...I laughed inwardly.
Opening it, I found James Mooncliff and Sara Mooncliff in similar portraits and the next page were two teenage boys.
One with honey brown eyes and the other bluish red eyes. His eyes reminded me of mine. I looked for their names.
Damien Mooncliff. Alan Delovanc.
Delovanc? I hadn't heard that name before.
I looked through and saw older images of both boys who became men.
The last page had both men but two women. They now had mates, I guessed.
I was about to flip when something caught my eye. The woman beside Alan.
Her hair, the curls. They were like mine! Her hair color was a dark shade of mine too...her freckles.
Trish.
I couldn't deny one fact. I bore a striking resemblance to this couple.
At first it was Alan. But now, I could swear I saw some of my features in this woman, Trish.
I spun round, sensing I was no longer alone to find Vince staring at me.
'Hey beautiful', he said ad walked toward me and gave me a peck on my forehead..
I closed the book and smiled.
'I missed you and got a little bored.' I said.
'Don't worry our stay at the cabin will be filled with so much fun, you'll beg me for a break.' Vince said kissing my nose, chin, nose....
He was pretending to be in a good mood but I couldn't miss the strain his eyes had the moment I looked at him.
Remembering the book i had just found, i didnt want to keep anything from him.
Vince, i think there's more going on between our families..
I brought out the book and showed him, 'This is your dad right? I know that's your mum. But who are these people and why do I bear a striking resemblance to the couple.' I said.
Alan and Trish Delovanc.
'My mother told me they were both close friends with my dad and her. But now that you mention it, you do look like them. A lot actually.'
'It's been a rollercoaster since you got here, Lexa. Let's get to the cabins, get some fresh air and talk about everything. I promised you I'd find a way. Didn't I?' Vince said
Placing my hands on his lips, I stopped him.
'We will find a way. I want to help, in anyway I can. I want to be strong enough to be your Luna. I will push harder to transform and get stronger.' I said
Vince crashed his lips to mine in a passionate kiss...'You are the strongest person I know.' he said
Smiling, I took the book with me and headed upstairs to the penthouse with him determined more than ever to find answers at the cabins.
