The words had eased out of her lips as quickly as she hoped they would. There was no going back now. The last man who had attempted this very move had been slain in front of everyone. What could make her different?
Kelvin looked away in contemplation.
“That is a strange request,” said Kelvin, after a moment of silence had passed between them.
He was rather chill. Sylvia had not in the least expected such a calm response.
“I have no other option, please. I know you have a good heart. Please help me escape, so I can get back to my family.”
If there was something she wanted most in all of her time at the palace, it was seeing someone she could trust, that person being a royal no less.
Maybe this was her chance. It would seem that her wait wasn't in vain. She might finally have a c***k at getting herself taken away from danger.
He watched around the courtyard, making sure it was empty. Then he leaned in.
“Do you understand what you're asking of me? You want to betray my father's trust and free you?”
“Please, I'm sure you could make it look like a mistake. No one will notice. I'll be as stealthy as possible.”
She fell to her knees. She had caught the stray stand of empathy from the man in front of her, and she wasn't going to let it pass without appealing to it.
Meanwhile, Kelvin appears to be in deep thought.
“You have caught my attention from the moment I met you. In all my time roaming this pack, I have never seen anyone who has caught my eye as well as you.”
Kelvin's words held no lies. She had the fairest of skins, the greenest of eyes. Despite the turmoil he was sure she had done through, not a dent had been chopped off her beauty.
Her eyes went to the floor. Never had anyone ever spoken so fondly to and of her. At least not that she could recall, however.
“You're a handsome werewolf yourself, Prince Kelvin.”
Kelvin gave a loop-sided smile. He had not met such a soft vampire. The ones he had been fortunate to encounter on the battlefield wore their hearts on their sleeves.
“You know my people have always been in constant contempt of werewolves. But you have stolen my heart. You've shown me that not all vampires are evil.”
Sylvia sighed.
“If you let me out, I know I can talk to whoever is in charge of our war troops and convince him to retreat. They need to see their plumage is hurting innocent werewolves.”
Innocent? Kelvin knew that innocence was far from appropriate when used in describing the werewolves. However, letting her in on their carnality would only give Sylvia a cause as to what he had planned out for her.
“Fine, then. I will make sure you get safe to wherever you're going to. You will get to get back to your family, where I'm sure they will be waiting there for you.”
"Can you help me escape?" she asked, her voice shaking with fear.
The young werewolf looked at her with concern. "I'll try," he said. "But it won't be easy. The Alpha is always watching."
Sylvia nodded. She didn't care. She was willing to do whatever it took to escape. Even if it meant putting herself in the riskiest of situations.
“You'll get my signal when the coast is clear. Go now before someone sees us.”
Sylvia was as bright as a dud. She couldn't have been happier. She was fine in that courtyard, a hopeless soul, searching for escape and coming out with a plan of escape.
“I pray all goes well,” Aspen prayed.
“You can say that when we are on the way. Go get some rest and put your things in order. We are leaving this night.” There was no way she was going to leave her only best friend behind.
That night, as Sylvia lay in her attic, she heard a knock on the door. She opened it, and the young werewolf was standing there.
"Come with me," he bellowed. "We don't have much time."
She turned to Aspen, who was already up. Her bag was safely slung across her neck carrying her meager belongings. Her only good fortune was ever meeting Sylvia.
“Let's be as quiet as possible, and we'll get out here safely, I promise.”
She had so much confidence in Kelvin's guidance and could already taste her freedom. In a matter of hours she will be out there.
With most of the guards asleep. It was an easy glide without being noticed. He led them through the maze of corridors until they eventually reached the door outside.
“Come on get out of here, before someone notices you're both missing.”
“Thank you so much for helping us. I promise I'll come back for yo.”
Those were her last words as she turned to leave.
I promise I'll come back for you.
“That will not be too long, I hope.”
Just as they turned to leave, then came the lights. They flooded the entrance and soon just about every guard in the palace was aware of their failed escape. They all came rushing down.
“Come on Sylvia, think of a way to get us out of this mess.”
“There's no way you're getting away so easily.”
Both women turned to Prince Kelvin.
“You think I would just let you both waltz out of this pack like some charitable man?”
“We trusted you…” her words were stained with bile. That tumor of empathy in his eyes had been chopped off. They were now dark circles.
“Please…” Aspen pleaded, but a blow to the back of her head shut her up for good. Too bad I had dragged her into this.
“I will use you to send a message to anyone else who tries to mess with me.”
The rough, hard end of his fist connected with her head, sending her spiraling back to the floor, unconscious.
