Chapter SevenThere was undoubtedly somebody following her. Lorna looked over her shoulder in time to see the flicker of movement as someone slid into a doorway. She took a deep breath and stepped into John Farrell's stables to hire a chaise. 'I'm not in the habit of hiring to women.' Farrell was tall and thin, with axle grease on both hands and a lugubrious expression on his face. 'I shall tell Lady Stanhope how you feel,' Lorna said easily. 'I am sure she will find another stable for her people to patronise.' Farrell wiped the grease from his arms. 'What has Lady Stanhope to do with this?' 'I am working for her,' Lorna said. 'I see,' Farrell grunted. 'I do have a little chaise here. It's not luxurious, and the offside wheel has a slight wobble.' 'That does not matter,' Lorna said. '
