Dorathy's Pov As soon as he asked the question, I was sitting in fear in my boss's office. The day had started with the normal routine of the office. But things took a sudden turn during the morning meeting when I instantly felt a feeling of anxiety and fear. I wanted to control my emotions , so I excused myself from my boss's office and quickly made my way to the restroom. But when I got to the door, my emotions took over and I started crying about the whole incident with fear that I would lose my job. I was determined to not ruin the day,I cleaned up as fast as I could and composed myself before returning to Mr Maxwell Gates's office. Unknowingly, I didn't know that my boss was watching my expressions through the slightly ajar meeting door. "Dorathy, are you okay? I noticed the way you left the meeting abruptly, hope everything is going well?" Mr Maxwell Gates asked. I wanted to save face, I took a deep breath and replied, "Oh, Sir. That was just a slight headache and I thought it's best to excuse myself for a while, I'm sorry sir." I responded to him. Mr Maxwell Gates looked at me skeptically and raised an eyebrow. "Headache? I thought I saw you…." I immediately interjected, "No, no sir, it's just a headache, don't worry about that sir." I said giving a fake smile hoping that he would believe me. It was not easy to convince Mr Maxwell Gates, he was a keen observer. He still proceeded in questioning me "Are you sure? I was sure that I saw you…." I had to cut him off again, I insisted, "Absolutely sure sir, I would never want to create any distraction. I'm fine now." He was left with no option than to agree, he reluctantly nodded, "If you say so. Just take good care of yourself, We don't want any health issues affecting your work." "Alright, thank you for your care and concern sir " I responded. I had diverted his attention from asking me questions about the previous night, as we proceeded into office discussions. "So you are my new secretary? Dorathy Jones ryt?" He asked. "Yes I am sir." "I heard you were properly interviewed and they have explained your duties to you and everything you need to know about Gates's company. "Yes they did sir, I fully understand." "Okay, I just wanted to see my new secretary and have a conversation with her, you can go and resume for work." He said adjusting his seat. I thanked my boss and immediately made my exit from the office, I was relieved that I had managed to divert the embarrassing incident. As I walked back to my desk, I had the feeling that my secret might not be safe for long. When the time past the normal working hours, I found myself still glued to my desk, buried under so many reports which had deadlines. The office was now very quiet, with only the sound of the fan overhead breaking the silence. As I carefully went through the last spreadsheet, I realized that it was going to be late already. I sighed, looking at my watch, which seemed to mock me with each passing second. The other staff members had long since left, leaving me alone with the overwhelming duty in the office. I was determined to finish the task at hand, I pressed on, with my fingers flying across the keyboard. Finally, with a victorious click, I finished the last report on my desk. Looked at the wall clock, my eyes widening at the late hour. I began to panic, it was late already and calling a cab at that time seemed impossible. "Is this how I will continue this work? Why is it so stressful? Well, it's because it's my first day at work so I have to put things in place. I enjoy being in the Gates's Company anyways." I said to myself. I was scared but summoned courage, I decided to go and meet my boss, Mr. Maxwell Gates, who was still in his office. I knocked on the slightly ajar door, I paused for a moment before stepping into his office. "Hello sir, can I come in?" I asked. "Come in, Dorathy." "I'm sorry to bother you sir, I saw that time had gone, and public transportation had stopped for the night. Can you please drop me off at my house sir?" I requested and was anxiously waiting for his response. Mr. Maxwell, carried away with his work, looked up and furrowed his brow, obviously surprised to see me still standing in his office. After a moment of consideration, he nodded. "Alright, Dorathy. I will drop you off. Let me wrap up the things I am doing so that we can go." I was relieved and I went to gather my belongings. I followed Mr. Maxwell Gates out of the office, the abandoned corridors made the sound of our footsteps sound louder. Our journey home was filled with total silence, as I had mixed feelings of appreciation and embarrassment. We finally got to my apartment building. I thanked Mr. Maxwell Gates profusely. "I really appreciate this, thank you very much Mr. Maxwell Gates. I promise that I won't disturb you again." He looked at me firmly with a reassuring smile, "No need to worry, Dorathy. Just make sure to manage your time better next time and don't overwork yourself." "Thank you sir, I will." I replied, but I was surprised that he could still be nice despite the fact that I embarrassed him at the bar. I knew that he was aware of it, but he just decided to ignore it. As we were talking outside, Grandma came to check who I was talking to. "Dorathy, where have you been? Why are you just coming by this time of the day?" She asked as she looked at Mr. Maxwell wondering who he was.
