Chapter 8 Screw Amendments

"Just because you're some big, important businessman doesn't give you the right to be a jerk to everyone around you. You may think you're better than everyone else, but you're not. I'm grateful for the help you did for my family but you collected something in return which is why I am here," she asserted. Bryan's eyes narrowed, and he leaned in closer. "Let's get something straight here," he said in a low, menacing voice. "I'm not just some big, important businessman. I am a wealthy, powerful man who is used to getting what I want. I don't have to be nice to people like you who are beneath me. You should be grateful that I even took the time to help your family's ass, and be grateful that I am allowing you to be in my presence right now." He stated arrogantly as sat back in his seat, a smug look on his face. Megan glared at him and said, "Don't flatter yourself. Your money doesn't make you better than anyone else. And you can take your condescending attitude and shove it." She emphasized each word with a steely glare, daring him to say anything else. "Really?" He retorted, his voice dripping with condescension. "You may not like it, but the truth is, money does make me better than you. And don't think you can talk to me like this just because you're a woman. You're out of your league here, and equal with every other woman," His voice was smug and self-satisfied, and he stared at her as if daring her to respond. He was still flabbergasted at how much of a noisemaker and talkative she was. She gawked at him in disbelief, how can someone be this prideful and arrogant? She stood up and said, "I'm going to use the bathroom," Bryan didn't bother responding as he continued his work. Megan walked to the back of the plane. She stood in the aisle for a moment, trying to calm her nerves. After finishing her business, she went back and sat down, not bothering to talk with him. 'Screw amendments!' What could she amend when he wasn't even cooperating? She continued to read her book, while Bryan faced his work. Their argument simmers beneath the surface, and it's clear that their honeymoon is far from a romantic escape. They continue to exchange icy glances as the plane prepares to land. Whether they reconcile or maintain, their contentious relationship remains uncertain. As the plane lands and the cabin doors open, they prepare to disembark, their disagreement unsolved. The couple stepped off the plane and into the bustling airport, the heat and noise of the terminal assaulting their senses. Megan had never been out of the country, she wanted to stay quiet but the view was too breathing for it to be said inwardly. "Wow, this airport is huge!" she exclaimed with a daydreaming look as she devoured the sight. "You haven't traveled much, have you?" Bryan said, his tone mocking. "If not for me, you would still be stuck in that little village you call home. I bet you've never even been out of the country before," Megan clenched her fists, trying to contain her anger. She knew he was trying to bait her, but it was still hard to resist the urge to tell him off. She took a deep breath and tried to ignore him. This so-called honeymoon was just for show, she can't wait to get through this and return to her normal life. 'Normal life' she wondered, can she return back to her normal life? Without telling her, she knew the answer already, she sighed and followed the grumpy old man. The couple walked out of the airport terminal, surrounded by a crowd of reporters. The flash of cameras was blinding, and the questions were coming from all directions. Bryan ignored the reporters, his face a mask of stone. Megan tried to stay calm, but she could feel her heart racing and suddenly, a large man appeared, bowing to Bryan. He was in his bodyguard uniform. He led them away from the crowd. They followed him, and the noise and chaos of the airport faded away. Megan sighed in relief, is this how rich people live their life? She asked herself, then, she saw a limousine waiting for them outside. The large man opened the door for them and they got in and the car drove off. Megan badly wanted to look around the car but she didn't want a sarcastic comment from him anymore, so she sat down quietly and gazed outside the window. As they were going, she saw a hotel that was far from them until it came into their view. She spotted another group of photographers and reporters gathered nearby. "Oh no. Not again" she thought dejectedly with a squeezed face. She looked over to Bryan who kept a stern expression. 'When you frown too much, you get older quickly' she thought snarkily. Bryan also noticed the photographers and a smug smile spread across his face. As the limousine pulled up to the hotel, they both alighted and the reporters rushed to them. The bodyguard came to guard the couple so the reporters wouldn't get close. Megan had never been in the spotlight before, she could feel her palm getting sweaty, and her heart raced, she wanted to hold his hand but she feared what might happen. She braced herself up when she heard the reporters asking questions. "Mr and Mrs Albert, what brings you to Italy?" One of the reporters asked. Bryan smiled, a smug look on his face. "What brings us to Italy?" he repeated as if the answer was obvious. "Why, we're here for the romance, of course." He put his arm around Megan, who stood stiffly beside him. "Isn't that right, dear?" he said, his tone dripping with sarcasm. Megan just stood there, not saying a word. She stood stiff, feeling numb and overwhelmed. The cameras still clicking and flashing around, she felt completely out of place. She wanted to escape from the cameras. She faked a smile which turned out to be miserable, his arm on her shoulder was distracting her. Another reporter chimed in, "Is your lovely wife here with you on this trip?" Megan stiffened, unsure of how to respond. Bryan's arm around her pulled her closer, "Of course she is. This is my wife, and we are here to enjoy the sights and sounds of Italy together." She tried to smile again, but she felt like a fraud. She didn't want to be here with this old man, but she had no choice. She just wanted this trip to be over as soon as possible. His arm around her tightened, he was displeased at her stupefied expression. It's not her fault, she just doesn't know what to say. The reporters continued to pepper them with questions, Bryan was the only one answering while Megan was giving a fake smile. They left the reporters outside and walked into the hotel lobby, which was opulent and grand. After checking in, the couple rode the elevator up to their floor. The tension between them was palpable, but neither of them spoke. Finally, they reached their floor and walked to their room. Bryan slid the key card into the lock, and the door clicked open. They stepped inside, and the door closed behind them, sealing them in. The suite was spacious and well-appointed, but Megan couldn't appreciate it. All she could think about was the situation she was in. She was trapped in this room with an old man, a man who had shown her nothing but his rudeness and arrogance. She went to sit on the couch, Bryan went over to the bed and sat down, he pulled out his phone, and typed on it. He didn't say a word, and Megan was grateful for the silence. She just wanted to rest and gather her thoughts. She was so tired, both physically and emotionally. She just wanted this trip to be over. Suddenly, he got up from the bed and walked over to the couch. She tensed up, not knowing what he was going to do. "What's with the stunt you pulled outside a while ago?" He said as anger shone in his voice. Megan stretched her neck to look at him, did he just remember, she thought? She cleared her throat to answer him. "That's my first time being in front of the camera, I can't be perfect at it with my expression," "But you know how to perfectly enter into this marriage for money," he snarled and continued, "I've worked so hard to bring this together. All you have to do is just f*****g act like a good wife," She really wanted to talk back, she wanted to but arguing was not in her mood at the moment, she nodded and she saw him leave and enter the bathroom. " Grumpy old man," she muttered under her breath as she placed her head on the couch. It was a long day.
