"You look beautiful, my dear," Mr. Albert chimed in with a smile. His son got a good taste this time. She looks well-reserved and a bit timid.
Megan thanked them shyly, they were totally opposite of their son. She was wearing deep blue jeans, and a white shirt paired with white sneakers. Her hair was packed behind her back, revealing her dangling earrings.
"My son told me you guys have been dating for a year,"
Megan choked on her saliva instantly, she began coughing violently as if something stuck her throat, Mrs. Albert walked up to her and rubbed her back, trying to calm her down. A maid that came with the Alberts, brought a bottle of water to her. She drank the water as if she had been thirsty for days. She subconsciously looked around to catch a glimpse of the liar.
"Easy easy," Mrs Albert continued to rub her back. Megan flashed her a smile and cleared her throat, muttering thanks to her.
"Let's not keep your husband waiting, we will see after your honeymoon. Take care dear," Mr. Albert said with a smile.
Husband, her husband, she scoffed when she thought of this. She shared hugs with the parents and left to board the plane. She ascended the stairs of the plane and got inside.
She entered with her hair blowing in the air conditioning, she was awed by the luxury of the plane as she had never been on a plane before, and she looked around for her seat.
She spotted Bryan, who was focused on his laptop, and she moved towards him. He continued to type, clicking the keys with force like he was angry at the machine in front of him.
She took her seat next to him, careful not to disturb him as she got comfortable. She opened her book, trying to distract herself from the tension she could feel radiating from him. She could hear him breathing heavily, almost like he was seething with anger. She felt a knot in her stomach as she tried to read, but her eyes kept wandering to the man next to her.
She noticed he wasn't even wearing his wedding ring, and she wondered what kind of man he was, and how he could be so cold and distant. The honeymoon arrangements surprised her, she was fidgeting, thinking about what might happen during their so-called honeymoon with how their relationship was. He didn't send a simple text about his absence last night.
What am I even thinking, she was amused at herself. She should know better than anyone else he would never do such, she had had a taste of his arrogance and rudeness, then she remembered Isabella's words, and she felt motivated and tried to strike up a conversation between them to improve their relationship.
She clears her throat softly to get his attention, but he continues typing, seemingly uninterested.
"Hi," she said as she turned to him, her voice soft and polite.
Bryan didn't even look up from his laptop, but she didn't give up.
"May I speak with you?"
No reply.
"I'm talking to you,"
No reply.
She felt a sting of disappointment, she tried again, "Hey, look at that view! It's amazing, don't you think?"
No reply.
Frustrated, she muttered under her breath, "Old man,"
Suddenly, his eyes snapped up from his laptop and he glared at her.
"What did you just say?" he asked in his deep voice, cold and threatening, which possesses masculinity.
Megan felt her heart skip a beat, but she wasn't about to back down now.
"I said old man, it's just an observation," she replied, her voice trembling slightly.
Bryan's eyes darkened, as the arguments reignited.
"An observation, huh? Well, I would rather be an "old man" than pretend to enjoy a honeymoon I never wanted," he spat out arrogantly.
Megan maintains her cool and kind demeanor, refusing to be baited by his rudeness.
"I'm sorry if I was out of line. What I wanted to say is, you were the one that brought up this trip, to at least try to make this honeymoon enjoyable. I just hoped we could both wear our rings as a sign of commitment to this journey,"
He sat back in his seat, and for a moment he was silent. There was amusement in his eyes then he said mockingly.
"Really? That's very observant of you. And what did you say, commitment?" He said, snarkily, "We both know there's none of that here. This is just a trip, young lady, don't read too much into it,"
He couldn't believe she could really be talkative like this, with the way she acted timid at the wedding. The honeymoon trip was necessary for their marriage to be believable, if not for the contract he needed urgently to boost his company, why would he stoop so low to have a contracted marriage with a wretched family? He thought, feeling irritated.
"Can you at least be polite?" Megan felt her patience oozing out already.
His eyes narrowed, and he leaned closer to her. "Listen here," he said, his voice low and menacing. "I don't need to be polite to anyone, not even you,"
He turned to her and continued, "You know if it weren't for me, your family would be out on the street right now. I was the one who paid off your father's debts. You should be grateful to me, and not ask for any f*****g politeness," he spatted out bitterly.
Megan felt a surge of anger, but she tried to keep her voice level as she said.
"Just because you're some big, important businessman doesn't give you the right to be a jerk to everyone around you. You may think you're better than everyone else, but you're not. I'm grateful for the help you did for my family but you collected something in return which is why I'm here," she asserted.
She stood up and said, "I'm going to use the bathroom,"
Bryan didn't respond, and she walked to the back of the plane. She stood in the aisle for a moment, trying to calm her nerves.
