Betrayal
Yolanda's POV. Seated in the cold cell for almost a week now, I heard my name called out in a loud voice. That voice was in distress, that I was startled when I heard it the second time. I stood up and headed to the door to see my mother rush and grip the iron door. She was breathing heavily, and the look on her face could tell that everything wasn't alright. "Yolanda…" She called my name, her palms dripping sweat as she struggled with the key to unlock the cell. I've been in here, yet mother did nothing to set me free. She collided with the people to cage me, since I set the werewolf Alpha king free from our captive. Why wouldn't I do that since the magnetic attraction between us was so turgid that I couldn't watch the only man I loved suffer. And since he made the promise of coming back to me for marriage, I couldn't help it. Seeing the only one who had loved me made me betray my people and set him free, and the punishment I got was to be imprisoned and face hell. I never cared, since I trusted him to come back for me. "Get out of this place immediately." The whispering but harsh voice of my mother drew me back to reality. She widened the gate and drew me out since I was too slow. "Mother…what's…what's…" I stammered. "This is not the time to ask me any question, as you can see, this is the result of your betrayal." She snapped, glaring into my eyes. I was startled at her words. "Uhmm…" "The werewolf Alpha is back to our clan, he has destroyed many souls and is still searching to end the life of every living soul in this clan." She explained further. But I wasn't getting her, the Alpha she is talking about shouldn't be the one I think. "Alpha Atlas Ryder of the Midnight Raiders Pack is here to avenge the death of his men after you betrayed us and set him free. I'll deny you from being my daughter if you don't do anything possible to stop him." She added, her eyes glowing like a flame of fire. I stepped backwards a bit, this should not be true. He promised to come back for me, not for destruction but for marriage. "Make sure you stop him by all means no matter what it will cost, this is the only way for you to prove your innocence." I swallowed my saliva, "But mother, where are you heading to? Are you planning to leave me behind to face death?" I questioned her, so anxious to know what's going on. She drew me closer to herself. "I am leaving to the magical realm through a portal, with the other witches that successfully escaped. Do your best." I watched as she dipped her palm into the pocket of her long flexible gown and brought out a silver hairpin, then she handed it over to me. "You are supposed to pay for the crime you committed by being taken away by the werewolf king, but I trust you to find a better way of doing this." That was her last words to me before she twitched out of my sight. I stood feeling baffled, not knowing what to do at the moment. "You betrayed me after I saved you, this wasn't our agreement. You promised to come back for me, and now you're hurting me after stealing my heart." I let out a hot breath from my nostrils. This wasn't what I was hoping for, my wish was to go with him right from the cell, and that was why I didn't mind how I was treated there. As it stands, I need to fight for myself. Since I betrayed my people because of him, and he stabbed me from the back, I shouldn't sit back. I need to prove that I'm innocent and have my people trust me again. But then, I don't need to fall into their hands and be slayed to death. While contemplating over this matter, I decided to make a move away from the hidden passageway for me to come in contact with one of his guards that beheaded one of my mother's maids. Fear gripped me the more as I took to my heels, but I stumbled onto a chair and lost balance. I landed on the floor with my butt, causing me to groan aloud in pain. While I was struggling to get up, my hair got twisted and pulled that I felt an intense hotness in my scalp. "Over here guards, I got her." A masculine voice announced, and immediately, I got surrounded by four guards that had their swords in their palms. I went dumb, as shivers went down my spine while watching them in action. "Let's kill her before the king." One of them suggested it and they all agreed to it. I was dragged up by my two hands, and was finally tied backwards. "Your King is a betrayal of trust." I cursed, but I got a thunderous slap as a response that I fell to the ground again. My eyes moved zigzag, glancing at their faces serially. "I'll behead you if a word slips out of your throat again." "Don't hurt her." A familiar voice ordered from behind. They all bowed down as a sign of respect, while I concluded within me that it's their king who showed up. "She should be spared for two reasons." He continued walking until he stood before me. "She betrayed her people and set us free secretly when we were imprisoned." He stated the first reason before he squatted down. I was all ears to hear the second reason, but he focused his gaze on me. "I'm not sure if you're the only one still breathing here." He muttered while rubbing my cheek. "This is not our agreement." I snapped angrily. He smirked his face. "Huh? I finally came back for you as promised." "But not for marriage, you came for destruction. Isn't it?" My voice raises at each word. He nodded slightly, "It's a pity that you thought I'll be too stupid to marry an enemy." He stood up again, "Like I said, I don't think you're the only one still breathing." "Tell me the second reason you want to spare my life? Do you still consider me as your heartthrob?" I threw the question at him, but he shook his head. "I don't think so, because the second reason is because…" He paused and turned his back on me, causing my heart to sink into my stomach.
