Katherine POV
It has been thirty five minutes since our escape and Amelia has been happily singing along to the songs without a care in the world, using her hand as a makeshift mike, in loud volume in the car. I am speechless by her attitude. She seems to be having the time of her life, acting as if we did not just escape the dangerous Mafia but are on our way to some party.
Argh! I shouldn’t have let her drive. I closed my eyes and pressed the bridge of my nose and exhaled in defeat.
"AND I SAID, OOH, I'M BLINDED BY THE LIGHTS
NO, I CAN'T SLEEP UNTIL I FEEL YOUR TOUCH" Amelia's voice cracks a little, while trying to hit the notes of the Weeknd song. I cringed as the sound of her shrill voice pierced through my ears. At this rate, I am going to be deaf soon. I should stop her so that I can focus on our next step.
"Jaden Woods has pretty good taste in music though" Amelia said in between her singing, making me turn my head towards her.
"Would it be rude if I take the CD with us? I mean we have stolen the car, technically so -"
"We aren't doing that Ames, we have already stolen the car." I immediately said, cutting her off, my voice louder than I intended.
"Jesus, fine don't get so worked up Kat." She nudged me playfully. "Just chill and listen to The Weeknd." She increased the volume and started dancing again to the song.
I rolled my eyes at her and looked straight ahead at the road. It’s no use asking her to stop. I know she won’t listen to me anyways.
My heart pounds in my chest as we arrive in the main city. As the adrenaline of our feat wears down, I suddenly realised that the car can be traced and their location can be known to them. I had seen that happen in one of the detective movies I had watched with the girls at home.
"Ames, they can still trace us as we have their car, we can neither go back to our place nor anywhere else in this car." I said with wide eyes as anxiety started crawling up in my body.
“Yes! You are right! I didn't think about that at all. What should we do? If they find us then we are dead meat for sure.” She questioned her previous nonchalance gone. Her eyes were still focused on the road ahead.
My hands were starting to get clammy due to nervousness. I fiddled with the seatbelt thinking about what to do next. Ah! Why? How are we supposed to outrun a Mafia? He is most definitely one step ahead of us.
As if a lightbulb went off in my head, I knew what had to be done.
"We can park the car in some building, and if they happen to track it it will be like a huge middle finger to their faces" I shared my idea with Amelia while imagining disappointment on Mr. Woods' face and his big ass men when they find the car. A small smile crosses my lips just thinking about it.
Amelia immediately flipped a u-turn and headed in the direction of the commercial building nearby. She quickly pulled in the parking lot of the building and parked furthest from the door.
I jumped out of the car while carrying the bag on my shoulders. Amelia tossed the keys in the back and closed the door. We quickly got out of the building and walked towards the bus stop, which was just across the street.
"Ok genius, what's the plan now? Going back to our place is out of option. Where do we hide from a person who has his eyes and ears everywhere?" She frowned as she crossed her hands and looked around to find a place to shelter in.
"And we obviously look homeless as we don't have any shoes on, If I ever came across again face to face with Jaden, I'm gonna kill him with my bare hands" she said irritatedly while throwing her hands up in the air in exasperation.
"Are you done Amelia? I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I hope we can use this energy of ours in finding a decent hotel somewhere around here and then you can continue your ranting peacefully. Shall we go? Or do you still want to rant some more in the middle of the street while suffering in this hot sun without any shoes on?"
Without waiting for her reply I started walking and when I looked back and saw that she wasn't following me, "You coming?" I asked her looking over my shoulder.
"Ahh, Katherine you are so bossy" she sprinted to catch up with me muttering something under her breath.
She may not be liking to take orders from me right now as usually it's always the other way around. However, this is a very grave situation and she is in this mess because of me. I just want to ensure her safety so for now she's got no other choice but to do what I say.
After walking for about fifteen minutes we found ourselves standing outside the motel. It was neither classic nor modern, nor did it run down a terrible side. It was sort of, just in between.
We made our way to it, and as soon as we got to the front desk. A fake blonde who was wearing too much makeup looked at us with a fake smile.
"What can I do for you?" She asked in a lazy tone while chewing her bubblegum. From her tone, it felt like she was clearly looking down on us. Sure we did look like homeless people running about without our shoes on but she didn't have any right to judge us like that.
"Can I get room for tonight?" I asked politely. She nodded and pulled the key out and almost threw it at me. Amelia glared at her. I held her hand to stop her from making a scene. Keeping a low profile is much needed, especially at this time.
"Do you need any help with the bags, if you are carrying any?" She said in a mocking tone while she very obviously was trying to stifle her laugh.
"No thanks for your kind offer,"Amelia put fake quotes in the air when she said 'kind',
"But we can very well carry our own bags," she continued but I didn't miss the sassy undertone of her voice. I love Amelia for this. She doesn't hold back her thoughts.
The fake blonde, whose name I noticed was Rebecca on the name tag attached to her shirt, threw draggers through her eyes at Amelia. I silently paid the amount needed and proceeded towards the elevator, dragging Amelia with me. I don't want a cat fight here.
With a ding elevator opened up and we exited. We walked down the hallway all the way to room 'B105' and opened it up with the key.
"At least the room looks better," Amelia said while entering.
I saw Amelia wasted no time checking out all the drawers in the room and reading the menu card to figure out what to order.
Disinterested in what she was doing, I threw the backpack on the bed and plopped on the soft mattress.
I don't know why Jaden is doing this? I just want to leave this behind. Just want to erase this whole day out of my life, leave it in the past. Leave him in the past. Why does my heart clench when I say this? Why does it hurt to think about him like that?
I think I need a shower to clear my mind.
Getting up from the bed, I grabbed my toiletries from the bag and headed towards the bathroom.
Warm water felt amazing on my body and I was tempted just to hide out here for the rest of the day. But my stomach growled loudly, so I quickly washed my body. I hope Amelia had ordered something to eat. I was starving as I didn't have anything since morning.
I shut the water off and grabbed the white robe from the rack, wrapping it around my body.
I walked out of the bathroom tying the rope around my waist. My wet hair falling down on my shoulders, dripping water down my back.
"Hey Ames, did you see my phone charger, I didn't find in -
A loud growl cut off my sentence as I stared in horror at the scene around me.
I saw Amelia passed out on the bed with two guys standing near her with their arms across their chest. One of them I recognised as Jaden's brother, who was present at the office when we first went there at the Club. Due to the lack of light present that day at the club, I couldn't see properly but now with sufficient light I could see him.
He was a mirror image of Jaden, only he seemed a couple of years younger than him. He had the same full lips, high cheekbones and grey eyes. They look like twins if they didn't have different eye colors.
His hair was messy. While Jaden has dark hair and is always set with gel, he has somewhat light ends with loose curls. His whole left arm was covered up in tattoos. His body was a bit slim, unlike Jaden's, which was packed with muscles.
How did they find us?
s**t
Before I can even blink, Jaden is in front of me, his eyes dangerously hard as he blocks my view from the men and Amelia.
I wanted to scream, I almost screamed but Jaden's dark looks in his eyes froze me to my bones.
Jaden looks different now. His honey brown eyes are no longer bright and full of excitement. Jaden's suit jacket is long gone, and his sleeves are rolled up. The first few buttons of his shirt are undone, and the tan skin of his chest is peeking out. His hair is even a little wild now, and I try to recall if he did it to himself. His eyes are trained on me with a hard, dangerous look. He’s like a predator after its prey. I take a step back and watch his nostrils flare at my movement.
Suddenly I hear my Nana's voice in my head. She always told us never to run if we came across a bear in the woods. The bear will always catch you.
Did we make a mistake running away from Jaden Woods?
