Chapter 13

Katherine Pov "Did you see?"    "See what, Amelia?"    "I think the maid forgot to lock the door."         Let me think about this for a minute. The maid walked out of here and forgot to lock it. This might be our only chance, and we have to try, right? I mean if we didn't try, we would regret it very badly.         My heart raced as I realized that I am taking this opportunity. I am going to try and escape from this place.          I poke my head out of the door, making sure that the coast was clear. The room that we were in was at the end of the hallway, and it looked pretty deserted.          I looked at Amelia, waiting for her to respond.          "Kat, this is our only chance. There is not much time to think." Amelia stated.          She is right, we don't have much time, because the maid will be back soon. If we want to get out, we have to move now before the maid comes back. I went back inside the room and hurriedly picked up the bag and rushed back to the door.         We both darted out of the room, our sole focus on finding the front door and getting the hell out of here. I held Amelia's hand while running down the stairs. I don't want her to get hurt and left behind while running. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something happened to her.        We ran, passed giant paintings, crystal chandeliers hanging proudly from the ceiling. There is no time in admiring the interior of this magnificent place right now. However, you do like it here, don't you ? - my subconscious taunted me.     I shook my head determinedly. I needed to get out of this mess.     As soon as we dashed down the stairs, making sure not to trip over our own feet, we finally reached the front door. I'm surprised Jaden's men aren't around. The front door looked so tall, made of some kind of dark wood. The door looked so strong and imposing, I wondered how to even open it. I grabbed the door handle with both of my hands and tried to pull the door, only it refused to open.    "Oh! Come On" I said frustrated.       I looked around for some locks which I could turn but there was nothing, the door was just too heavy for us to open.     My heart began to sink as we heard footsteps coming. No, no I couldn't let them find us. We had to get out of here even if we died trying.   "Kat, quick, in here." Amelia pulled me in the right direction and I ran behind her bindly. We did not know anything about this place but I was just praying for my luck to work today and hopefully we would find a backdoor or something to escape.     "If we can find a kitchen, I bet there would be a back exit." Amelia whispered, matching my thoughts.      " There are way too many rooms in this goddamn place. Where in the hell is the kitchen?" She continued.     However, we continued to run in search of escape. I could feel tears of frustration building in my eyes. Are we lost? What if we couldn't make it? What will Jaden do once he found out we tried to escape?    We were just about to reach the end of the corridor, disappointment and fear started to slowly take over me, but at last a burst of hope had me pushing the last door open and I stumbled straight into the garage.     We made it to the garage without being caught!      Hallelujah!    Holy crap! There are a lot of cars in this garage! SUVs, Ferraris, BMWs, Sedans, you name it.    "Ok! Amelia, what now?" I questioned while catching my breath, she was dumbfoundedly looking at the cars in the garage.    "s**t Kat, how rich is this guy ? I mean look at the cars. He even has a minivan." She admired her surroundings but immediately realised and pulled herself out of her daze. "Anyways, let's look around for something." She declared, shaking her head.    I looked around the garage looking for something that might help us.     Hanging right next to the door I noticed a rack of keys. Not just one set, but dozens. All sitting in nice rows.    I looked at Amelia, our eyes met and I knew she's thinking exactly the same thing that I'm thinking.     Amelia started pushing buttons on the keys to see which keys to go to, which car. I noticed a black sedan closer to me. A Few minutes went by struggling to find the right key.      I yelped in happiness when I found the keys of the sedan in the last row. I held Amelia's hand, I gave her the bag and we ran towards our getaway car.        We jumped in the car. I pulled the passenger side door and hurriedly entered and Amelia got into the driver's seat. Amelia quickly started it. I searched the car a little before finding what I was looking for in the center console; the garage opener. Amelia reversed out of the garage as fast as possible, knowing that they probably heard the garage door open.       She hit the accelerator. I heard a few people's voices as we continued our escape. The fact that we both didn't have any shoes on, bothered me the least. Our only goal was to get the hell out of here.       Amelia threw the car in drive and the main gate opened up automatically.      "Are you sure about this Amelia?"      "Uhh, Kat, I think we are a little late to discuss that. We are already in the car, we aren't turning back" She said sarcastically and rolled her eyes at me.       Luckily, there is no one on the road and from the house after us. We will figure something out once we reach the city.       I tried to focus on the rear view mirror to see if anyone was following us, but no cars appeared.       After a while, I rolled down the window and let the air in. I closed my eyes letting the cool air blow on my face. It helped me relax a little.       There was absolute silence; only wind and rattling of trees could be heard.       Holding onto the steering wheel, Amelia asked me "Are you alright?"       "Yeah, I guess," I said, opening my eyes to look at her. I rested my head against the seat comfortably and closed my eyes again " I'm just a little tired."       I'm happy and relieved for now that we made it out of Jaden's den.     Goodbye Jaden Woods, forever.      I smiled.
