Chapter 12

2659 Words
Katherine Pov I glanced over at Jaden, wondering what’s going to happen to us. I should be freaking out, crying and screaming but I don’t have any more tears to shed . I’m exhausted from all the worry and besides could things really get any worse?        The last few weeks have been utter hell for us, and now my house has been ransacked. We have nowhere to go. Big Bull offered to hold some of my boxes for me, even offered his couch, but that won’t be happening. I feel like we will be safer roaming the streets than lying on his sofa with his “partners”.          However, for some reason, seeing Jaden was a source of comfort, maybe because I was more afraid of Big Bull. After I came to know who he was that first night, I was shocked to see a picture of him in the local newspaper, 'The city was thanking him for the generous donation for the new shelter downtown.' I find it quite weird, just days before I'd seen him kill someone and here he is doing charity. How can a person switch personalities this quick! I did some digging on the computer at my work and found out Peter was right. He has the biggest Mob in Chicago.      I saw small forums and side stories hinting Jaden Woods being in charge of the Chicago Mob, but nobody would confirm anything publicly. My first reaction was to panic. I was freaking out, but it had been days since everything went down and nothing had happened to me. His words were still ringing in my ears telling me to lock the door and sleep. I didn’t understand any of it.          I glanced over at him, but his eyes were on the road. I wonder what he’s going to do with me? Don’t men like him go through women like Kleenexes? Why would he want to take me to his place? This is just going to create more problems for me and Amelia. All my thinking is based on old mafia movies that I've watched. I don't know what Mafias are really like, so who knows what the hell this guy is all about.       I glanced back at Amelia who was sitting in the back of the car. She had her hands crossed across her chest and was fuming with anger. As soon as our eyes met, I assured her through my eyes about the plan, letting her know I will take care of it. She took a deep sigh and looked out of the window. I turned and straightened myself, masking my emotions. I don't want to let Jaden know anything.        We ride in silence. I can’t find the will to ask any questions. I’m too afraid of what answers I might get. There’s no music on the radio, just the sound of the engine and subtle movements from Mr.Woods.        I tried to remember the way in case we got a chance to escape but to no avail. It was damn confusing. I remember a few landmark signs here and there but other than that nothing.       After about what I think an hour of driving, we enter a neighborhood a few miles away from the city, where all the houses are spread apart. As we drive through, I can’t help but think how lavish it looks, like something you’d see on a television.         We reached a rock wall that seemed to go on forever before Jaden pulled up to a gate. As soon as the car reaches the gate, it opens automatically. He slowly drives up the long driveway leading to a massive house. It has a stone façade and looks like a mini version of a castle.         I realised I was gaping and immediately closed my mouth and tried to conceal my surprise. I glanced over at Amelia only to realise that she was equally shocked as me.        "Are we going to be cleaning this place or something?” Amelia said while looking at the enormous house as the car came to a stop.          I peer out the window, trying to get a better look at the house. Maybe that’s what he intends to do with us. He wants to keep us here to make sure our mouth is shut and his baseboards are scrubbed but then I think about the pet name he gave me and how he’s treated me so nicely. Ugh! It's so confusing to figure out what's going on in his mind.       He let out a laugh as his hand came to mine. I immediately withdraw it before he can touch it. He narrowed his eyes at me.       "Don’t move,” he stated, and got out of the car and came over to my side, opening the door for me. He offered me his hand and helped me from his car.       Amelia got out of the car and stood beside me clutching her bag. I gently squeezed her hand nodding at her. She responded by squeezing my hand tightly.        I was shocked when I gazed back at the beauty before me. It was the most beautiful mansion I had ever had my eyes upon, not to mention it was huge. The mansion looked to be multi-storey with beautiful gables on the top. There were multiple pillars holding the mansion together. It felt like I had entered Utopia. I swear, if this wasn't where this crazy Mafia leader lived, I would've fallen in love with it. My feelings were conflicted. When everything in me was telling me to run far away from this place but at the same time I wanted to stay at this magnificent place. Well, lucky you Katherine, you get to stay here, now you can't complain that you never get anything you ask for, my subconscious told me.     I looked at Amelia to see her staring at the mansion with wonder. I was as wonderstruck as she is. However, I knew that only the facade was beautiful, it was filled with ugliness inside.     We followed Mr. Woods to the mansion. When we get to the front door, it opens for us, and a man in a uniform steps out of the way and inclines his head to Mr. Woods.  “Sir,” he says quietly.   “Davis, this is Katherine and Amelia.  Girls, this is Davis.”    “Hi,” I mumbled, as I didn't know what else to say. He gives me a small nod as well but doesn’t meet my eyes.     “Everything is ready, Monsieur,” he tells Mr. Woods. (Sir) He nodded curtly. "This way Kitten." He gestures to me.              Mr. Woods led us into the house. The place was luxurious. Damn! This guy was rich. Actually calling him rich was an understatement. He has everything that a human needs to exist and then some more.  I felt so out of place there.      When I looked around the house, it was even more breathtaking. It was a perfect combination of a modern yet vintage look. Whoever did the interior did a great job in keeping the old look of this mansion. I noticed the floors were made of white marble, they were very beautiful, but expensive. There was furniture and decorations all around the place that looked as if it was a museum. A very well kept museum.      "Put them in the rooms across from each other." Mr. Woods orders Davis.      Wait! Rooms? Plural? No, I don’t want to be separated from Amy even for a moment. We have to escape.       "Nooo, please let Amelia stay with me." I turned and grabbed onto the chest of Jaden's expensive suit, my eyes begging him to allow this.     Jaden looked between the two of us. What will I do to convince him? Would any amount of begging allow her to stay with me?      He stared at me cooly, assessing me. An unexplained feeling flashed in his eyes for just a second. I almost missed it. I know I was walking on thin ice by angering the beast but I had to take the chance.     "Fine," he sternly agreed. He nods to Davis who starts to head upstairs. I let out the breath I didn't realize I was holding.     "I will give you some time and have lunch sent up. You will eat it, understand?" I nod slowly as he continues, "Later tonight we can discuss the sleeping arrangements." He said, looking at Amelia.    Huh? What does he mean by sleeping arrangements? There is nothing to discuss, Amelia is staying with me. Period.    However, before Amelia or me could say anything, Davis motioned us to the stairs to our new bedroom.     Davis opened the door of the room as we reached the second floor. I glanced around to take in all the surroundings. The room is very feminine with peach pink and black as dominating colors. The bed was a dark four poster with a canopy, it looked beautiful. The room had all other basic furniture. I noticed the balcony with French windows which gave a beautiful view of the garden outside. Even though I really loved the room I was not planning to stay here for long.       "Are you alright?" I whispered to Amelia who swept her gaze over our current room surroundings. I wanted to yell and scream at the top of my lungs, but I didn't want to draw any attention to us. If we need to make our plan work, we have to be smart and extra careful.     "Yeah, are you?" She questioned in a whisper, concern evident in her words. I nodded watching as Amelia's shoulders visibly relaxed.     "Make yourself at home Madame, I will send someone for food, you can freshen up till the time lunch arrives." Davis said, his French accent was clearly noticeable. He smiled while walking out of the door, closing it behind him.      Mr. Woods is really something else. Everything he owns is imported, even his house help is French.    Dropping the bag on the bed, I realised that I need to use the washroom. I scanned the room and noticed the door to the far left of the room.      As soon as I entered I was stunned by the beauty before me. The bathroom was absolutely gorgeous. On the left side there was a big marble rectangular sink with two taps on the marble countertop, which was built on a dark wood table, with numerous drawers with gold metal handles. There was a large rectangular mirror with a thick dark wooden frame, and the wall on which the mirror was hanging was a black and gray brick wall. In the front was a chest of drawers made of the same dark wood with the same gold handles. On the right side of the bathroom was a huge glass shower stall with a marble wall. And lastly was the toilet.       Not wanting to waste any more time gawking like a fool, I hurriedly used the bathroom. However I did use a few more minutes to admire the interior. If Jaden had designed the bathroom himself then I must say, for a murderer like him, he has a pretty aesthetic sense in interiors.     When I exited the bathroom, I found Amelia at the door.       "What are you doing?" I whisper yelled, walking over to her.     "Son of a b***h, He locked us in here." Amelia gritted her teeth, while trying to open the door.     "Calm down Ames, if we want to escape from here, we need to use our brains, not anger." I pulled her and sat her down on the bed.     "So what is the plan?" She questioned raising her eyebrows. She seemed tired, frustrated and most of all scared.    "Well, I don't have such a plan in my mind right now but I'm sure we will come up with one soon." I held her hands in mine to assure her that I'm there to save her no matter what and I will do anything to get us out of this mess. The only reason that we agreed to come with Jaden was that we were left with no other choice than to follow him. I knew he wouldn't let go. So we decided to play along and do what he says. For now.    "We need to think quickly, Kat, I hope we can make it out of here before dark, or else it will be difficult to get out of here with such high security." Amelia's brow was furrowed and I could see the wheels turning in her brain as she tried to come up with a plan.   I nodded at her.     I stood up and walked over to the balcony which gave a beautiful view of the estate. My thoughts immediately went to jump off from the balcony.    "Don't even think about it Katherine, we don't want to run away with fractured legs and arms, because if we jumped we surely can't walk after that." Amelia said laughing while peeking through the balcony. I laughed along with her thinking about it. She was right though as we were clearly two storey above the ground.      I went inside again. My eyes darted left and right as I tried to come up with a way to escape this whole situation. When I couldn't think of anything else, I sat on the bed feeling defeated, laying my back against the headboard. I was staring blankly at the bed sheet while trying to come up with a solution. My fingers absent-mindedly traced the geometric designs on the bed sheet. I was getting anxious now as no way to escape came up. I had to do something before it got dark.       As I was deep in my thoughts, the door opened and a maid entered with a tray in her hand. She looked to be in her late twenties with red hair and bright blue eyes, wearing light blue uniform. She gave us a warm smile while she handed us plates full of sandwiches and fresh fruits.       "Master has ordered me to give this note to you." She said softly while handing me the note. I suspiciously took the note from her.      "I have some work which needs my attention, be a good girl and finish your lunch. I will be back soon.        Jaden."         Will be back soon. Back soon?. Why can't this man understand? He had us hostage here. Why can't he just leave us alone?      We need to put our plan in word faster, before Jaden comes.     "Please finish your lunch madam."      "Which sandwich is it?" I heard Amelia enquire.     I was still stunned by the words on the note, why is he doing this? I still can't move my eyes from the piece of paper which the maid handed me.   "She is allergic to ham, please take it back." Amelia told the maid.     I looked at the maid's blue eyes and nodded, while crumbling the note in my fist.     "Alright then, will peanut butter be fine?" She asked.       I nodded at her again. My stomach growled in hunger, as I stared at the grapes on the plate, wondering if I should eat or not. In the end I decided not to eat it. I still can't trust him or his people. I had no idea what they wanted from us, especially Jaden.     Maid took the sandwich plates from the bed, which she had kept a few minutes ago.        "I will bring you a peanut butter sandwich" she said smiling and walked towards the door. We blankly stared at her.      I stared at the door when she closed it, trying to decide what I'm going to do.     "Kat, are you listening"? Amelia asked, shaking me from my thoughts.    "Did you see?"   "See what, Amelia?" I growled, tired of thinking of an escape plan.   "I think the maid forgot to lock the door."     I glanced back at the door.    Could this be our chance to escape?
