Chapter 11

Jaden POV      I'm sitting in my usual spot behind the desk in my office. It's the weekend, but I had an important meeting with my investors which needed my attention. The meeting took longer than I intended it to be but I'm happy that the deal went smoothly.        I opened my laptop to look at Katherine's apartment. I had security cameras installed and employed some guards to oversee the safety of the girls. I see that the security guards are not at their assigned place. Ten minutes passed and they still didn't come back. Now, I’m getting angry. Where the hell are the guards? I decided that I wouldn't waste another minute. I pushed back from the desk and went out the door with my phone in my hand. The guy I had hired for watching her building picks up his phone on the first ring.        I slide behind the wheel as I try to figure out what happened. “Why wasn’t I informed about the security today?” Where are they? And what's happening there?"         I’ve been getting updates on her movements for five days, and I’m pissed I didn’t hear about this already. “Sorry, boss. I thought you only wanted to know when she left and when she came back. I messaged you about her leaving for the grocery store, but when she came back someone ransacked their house. I have been trying to call you but the call went straight to voicemail.” I hung up the phone and hit the gas. I opened my phone and saw the messages and missed calls. My phone was on silent mode as I was busy in the meeting.  "s**t" I cursed.        Normally it takes me a while to get to the other end of town where she lives, but I’ll make it in half today. I’m gripping the steering wheel and weaving in and out of traffic as I think about her. She works hard and barely has anything. I know it probably wasn’t her dream to work there, but she seemed to be trying to make it work. By the time I make it to the building, I spot my guy near a construction zone across the street, where it looks like he’s set up to work at the site.  Although in reality, all he’s set up to do is watch Katherine. That’s his only f*****g job. When he spots me, he immediately stands up and comes over to meet me. “I’m sorry, boss. I should have reported you sooner and should have sent someone at the office,” he says, trying to smooth out the situation. "I tried to call Mr. James too but even he  didn't pick up the call."      "Relax, Mike,” I said calmly, looking at the building even though rage was building inside me against those who wronged Katherine. He nodded, and I walked past him and around the back. Mike can’t see the rear of the building from where he’s set up, but he’s got cameras to help him with that. From the front he can only see Katherine coming and going, and up until now it hasn’t been a problem. When I get to the back of the building, I see that bastard drug dealer who goes by the name Big Bull. He’s almost as tall as me, but where I’ve got pounds of muscle, he’s all fat. His bald head is shiny, and he’s got a goatee that looks like food is stuck in it. A woman stands next to him, nearly naked.       I don’t know Big Bull personally, but he’s been checked out by my men and I don’t f*****g like him. When I reached the edge of the steps, Big Bull stepped out in front of me. “Hey, now who are you? What do you want from my girl?” he says, looking at me straight in the eyes. “Are you going up to see my girl?” Rage builds up in my throat, and I clench my fists.   “Your girl?” I managed to choke out.         “Yeah, Katherine, she's my girl, she's my neighbour and I help her alot. But she’s up there packing now. Found out her house is being ransacked and she needs a place to stay, so I’m helping her out." He licks his lips, and the woman beside him looks pissed by his statement.       There is only evil in the smirk he gives me, and I’ve had enough. Reaching out, I grabbed him by the throat and pushed him up against the wall, high enough so that his feet dangle.         "Hey man, who do you think you are? How dare you touch me?" He grappled with my arms and started choking. Big Bull really doesn't know when to shut up. I pulled out my gun from the back of my belt and pointed it at him. I turned my gun to the middle of Big Bull’s forehead. “You punk, how dare you talk to me like that? Do you know who I am?” I asked calmly. Big Bull shakes his head. “I’ll do you a favor and give you an education. I’m JADEN DAVID WOODS."      At the mention of my name, Big Bull's eyes widened with fear and he started struggling more fiercely against my hold.        “Looks like you do. Then you should know better than to f**k with me and what’s mine.” I pressed harder on his throat.      I pointed the gun in the direction of his woman and fired it. She took off running, and I’m thankful I thought to put a silencer on my gun before I left for work today. Moving the gun back to Big Bull's forehead, I hold the hot barrel to his bald head and burn him with it. He let out a choked cry, and I squeezed his neck even harder. The bastard turned blue. I smirked at his pathetic state.       “Maybe not right here, boss,” I heard Mike say from behind me. He must have either seen what was happening on the cameras or been close enough to see me in action.     Thankfully his words sinked in and I realized that this isn't the place.       "Call Hunter and have him take care of him." I ordered Mike and pulled the trigger of my gun. Big Bull's body slid down to the floor, blood oozing out of his head. I straightened my suit and made my way upstairs.      "Will do, boss,” Mike confirmed as he hauled his limp body out to a waiting trunk. I pushed my hair back in place and walked up the steps to Katherine's apartment. I tried to let the thoughts of Big Bull and what he said he was going to do with her fade away. She’s mine, and no one touches her. I will take care of everything from now onwards.       When I reached her apartment, I banged my fist on her door. The moment Katherine opens the door, something in my chest eases and aches all at the same time. Her eyes are rimmed red and her hair is piled high in a messy bun. It pissed me off that I wasn’t there for her when this all happened. I wasn’t beside her, telling her it was going to be okay.        She’s wearing a gray sweatshirt that’s hanging off one shoulder, and I can’t tell if what she’s wearing could be even called shorts, they’re so damn short.        “You always answer your door dressed like this?” I barked, not intending to yell at her but unable to control my anger.        “You,” she said, blinking a few times and wiping away a tear.       “Jaden Woods.”      “Yeah, I know,” she answered, blushing slightly as she took a step closer to me. As if she realized what she did, she immediately takes a step back. She found out who I am, apparently.    "What's all this?" I asked, trying to get closer to her. She took another step back and I'm more than pissed. I don't like the distance between us.     She opened her mouth to answer, but instead a sob blurts from her lips and her face falls into her hands. “Oh, kitten, don’t cry,” and took a step forward to wrap her in my arms. But instead she was taken back by her sister.           "You did all of this, didn't you?" She seethed, while, Kitten cried in her arms.      "I'm not the bad guy here." I said  softly, trying to explain them. "I'm here to help you both, you have to trust me."     "We know enough of you already, I know this is all your doing, we don't have anything to give you and we are definitely not coming with you." The sister replied in a rather harsh tone looking straight at me. The sister has some guts to speak to me like that. She seems to be very bold while Kitten is tender.       The sisters seem to have found out information about me. I smirked at that. Well what can I say, my work says it all. When you control half the city, people tend to get scared.      "Please leave us alone." Kitten's voice cracked a little.     I’ve decided that you are a loose end.” I stated firmly while inspecting the damaged house.      “I’ve spent the last five days making arrangements so that you are no longer a threat to the peace I’ve built.” I turned towards them, keeping my hands in my pockets.       “I’m not a threat. I haven’t said a word to anyone,” Katherine said defensively, crossing her arms over her chest.       I reached in front of her and looked into her mesmerizing hazel eyes. She looked at me defiantly. I gently took her hands in mine.       “By witnessing what you saw that night, you’ve become indebted to me. I spared your life, and you must repay that. I thought by keeping an eye on you it would be enough, but I can see now that this place isn’t safe. And now that you’re in danger, it’s apparent you need a place to live." I said softly, so that only she can hear.          She opened her mouth to protest. “I’ve had enough of this,” I said, pressing my finger to her lips. “I’ve decided you owe me and that’s that. Now get dressed, we’re leaving.”       “I am dressed,” she snapped, and pulled her hand away from mine.        "Fine, but pull the sweatshirt down,” I growled.        “I’m not going with you.” Her protest is soft but fruitless. I don't want to hurt her but this is for the best.      "Katherine, what choice do you have?” I asked, crossing my arms. “You're getting threats and now your house is ransacked."         When her eyes widened in shock, I shook my head. “You will lose your life if you don't leave this place. And you owe the biggest debt in Chicago." I said looking straight into her eyes, I hope she remembered our little chat in my club. "You both are going to grab your purse and get your pretty ass in my car. Are we clear?”        She lets out a huff of frustration.       "Katherine, No we can't do this. We can't go with this man. I have already called Peter and told about this. I'm sure he is on his way to help us. We can stay at his place for a while." Her words added fuel to the fire which was already burning inside me. Like hell I'll let them go with that prick.       "You both have sixty seconds to decide. I won't be gentle with my words. Either you both are coming with me peacefully, or else I have to use other methods." I commanded trying to control myself. I don't f*****g want them to go anywhere especially with that asshole Peter. I waited for them to speak, when my phone rang in my pocket.          My assistant's number flashed on the screen. I had to take it because I left the office in a rush without informing anybody.      While talking on call, I noticed both the girls disappearing into the bedroom. I waited until I finished the call. It's been more than fifteen minutes, annoyed I was about to go see what was going on. I saw them coming out with their duffel bags on their shoulders.      "We have decided to come with you, but we won't stay long." Kitten said, trying to mask her fear with bravado. I wanted to ask further but I let it slide for now.        "We'll see about that later and about this," I pointed to all the mess in the living room. "I’ll send someone for the rest of this later,” I said as I waited for her to lock her door, and walked down the stairs with them. When we get outside, I see Mike and Hunter talking right before they get in the car. I know instinctively that Big Bull is in the trunk. There’s no sign of anyone else. We walked to my car, and I opened the passenger door for Katherine.           “Are you trying to be a gentleman?” she asked with sass and attitude in her voice.         “Are you trying to get spanked for being a brat?” I throw back at her. Her cheeks turn pink and she slides in and her sister sits in the back of the car. But before I close the door, I lean in. “I won’t always be gentle, get used to it, Kitten."        I buckled her up and closed the door before walking around and getting in. I already feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders because she’s on her way to my home, to where I can keep her safe. This isn’t exactly how I saw this going down, but it’s good enough to get me what I want.         I hit the gas and headed home.
