Jaden POV
My gaze was still fixed on the woman standing at the doorway like a predator eyeing his next prey. I have seen countless women in my life but never have any of them had this kind of effect on me. There is something about her that looked so pure and untouched. All I can think about is the unimaginable things that I would do to her. If I voiced out my thoughts she would probably run for the hills. Oh God! What is this woman doing to me? I clenched my fists to control the direction of my wayward thoughts.
“Whatever it is, make it quick”, my voice is urgent. That prick Peter who was standing beside my kitten was about to say something but I immediately cut him off by holding my index finger in the air. “Did I ask you?"
"YOU,” I pointed to the kitten, “SPEAK.” My voice came out higher than I had intended. I wanted to hear her sweet voice. She flinched at the tone of my voice, fidgeted with her fingers and nervously shuffled from foot to foot. Her eyes were filled with fear.
“Listen Mr. we are…”, the other woman started speaking. Annoyed by the lack of obedience I cut her off and fixed my gaze on the kitten.
“Cat got your tongue?” I seethed. She shook her head.
“Well then speak". I stated.
She started stuttering,”Uh.. Um.. Mr. Woods. I witnessed a mur- murder in the alley earlier this nig- night and then somebody threw a stone through the window with a note threatning us."
She came forward to hand me the crumpled paper. While taking the note from her hand, our fingers touched briefly and her breath hitched. She immediately withdrew her hand. I stifled a groan that was about to escape my lips.
I examined the piece of paper and sure enough there was the Redstone logo on the note as James had described.
Looking up at them “ So what do you want us to do?” I asked.
“Peter informed us that you can help us out,” came the small voice of the kitten. She doesn't meet my eyes.
That prick! What is he to her? Are they together? I don’t like the idea of her having any man in her life and in her bed. The thought itself made me angry. She does not belong with him. She belongs with me. Woah! Where did that come from? I need to settle this matter quickly and get this done with. I don't have time for this s**t.
“And what do you think this place is? Some kind of charity to rescue girls like you from petty criminals? For all we know this could be some kind of joke played upon you guys”.
James was about to speak and I raised an eyebrow at him, daring him to go against me. Kitten’s lower lip wobbled and she was about to cry at my harsh words, but She quickly composed herself, masking her emotions. Well well well she seems to be sensitive.
“Listen Mister, are you gonna help us or not? Katherine, I think this is a bad idea we should leave. We shouldn't have come here. Please enjoy your drink.” the other girl spoke irritatedly.
Oh! So the kitten's name is Katherine. I think it suits her perfectly.
I looked at the other woman, who was throwing daggers at me. I don't like the way she is addressing me. I'm the one who gives orders, not the other way around. How dare she?. People are scared of me, And I like to keep it like that. I like people flinching when I'm around. I was about to open my mouth to speak.
“No wait, Pardon my brother. We’ve had a rough day today,” James faked a smile and stopped them while giving me a look. “Jaden?” He waited for me to speak.
“Alright,” I sighed. I know James won't let it go. So I decided to end this, “The Redstone hotel business belongs to William Romano. We had done business in the past. Although this hotel business is a front to fool the people. He is actually involved in other shady business.”
I saw both the women's eyes widen as I finished. I don't want to give further details about William or about his business. The less they know the better.
I waited for them to speak.
“What does that have to do with us? Is this somehow related to the murder I witnessed?” she asked, her voice slightly shaken.
Ahh! The murder. Now I am sure that luck is definitely on my side. The timing couldn’t be more perfect.Thank f**k God, it was me who she witnessed , I don't even want to imagine what would have happened if there was sombody else whose crime she had witnessed. The area is really unsafe, full of petty criminals, drug peddlers and biker gangs.
“Don’t worry about the murder. I am positive this has nothing to do with it. About this note,” I held up the note between my two fingers, "this might be a joke but we’ll look into it.” I said dismissively. I dared not to look at her beautiful eyes again.
I looked at James and noticed he was looking at them with an unreadable expression on his face. What's wrong with him today.? I cleared my throat, "James please show them the door" I said. The words finally registered in his thick head and he took my cue,” Let me walk you three out.” he said flatly.
“Thank you Mr. Woods ,” Peter gushed his appreciation while heading towards the door. I nodded at kitten as she left the office, closing the door behind her.
I refilled my now empty glass of whiskey. What a long day it has been! I stood up, sipping the drink which burned my throat. I really need to get that woman out of my mind. I sent a quick text to my secretary to schedule my boxing session with Paul for tomorrow. As I was pacing in my office deep in my thoughts, I felt something under my shoe. I looked down and picked it up. It looked like a bracelet. Does this belong to one of the girls?
As I was examining it, I noticed the door open. There she was again. She looked like an angel under the dim lights. I had this sudden urge to touch her. I had to take this chance before she disappeared again.
She watches me come closer and her eyes grow wider. I cage her body against the door, the impact making the door close behind her. She barely reaches upto my chest. I lean in, getting the smell of strawberries, I am guessing it’s her shampoo. “My- my br-bracelet.” she mumbled pulling me from the trance she had me under. Her full plump lips part a little as she studies me. My eyes ran down her small frame that somehow irates me. She should be eating more. Moreover she shouldn’t be roaming in the streets alone at night. This feeling of concern for a stranger is very foreign to me.
“Please,” she whispered. And my gaze shot back to her. She must have seen anger on my face. “Keep this in mind if you witness a murder on the road never rush back to your own house because they can trace you back.” Her mouth forms an adorable O shape and I had to stop the urge not to kiss the f**k out of her.
Before I do something I regret, I took a step back and handed her the bracelet. “By the way how is your little kitten?”. I smirked.
“Huh?”, her hazel eyes grew wider as her face registered shock. “Ho-How do you know? Wa- was it you?”
I gently brushed her cheek with the back of my hand and she flinched at my touch. I do not like the idea of her being scared of me. “Please don’t hurt me,” she pleaded in a tiny voice.
“I’m not going to hurt you kitten.” I tell her, my voice sounding rough and deep. But I want to make sure that she won’t tell a soul about the murder she witnessed. A sudden idea formed in my head. “You should know that I don’t do anything for free. If I promise to provide you protection, I might need something in return.”
“What?” she peeked up at me. A wicked smile formed on my lips as I replied “ I’ll let you know when the time comes”.
She licks her lips nervously, drawing my eyes there. I’m going crazy. I’ve never had a reaction like this to any woman in my life. It pisses me off but I like it. I haven’t felt like I’ve wanted anything for a while, and now need is pumping through me. A need for something that I can’t have. Not yet.
I reached for her hand and put the bracelet on, letting my finger linger on her soft skin for a while. “Go home and get some sleep, kitten”. She stares at me like she doesn’t believe I’m letting her go. I can’t believe it either. She probably thinks she’d end up like the man I murdered.
“Katherine. Go home. Lock the door and keep that pretty mouth shut. If you don’t, I have other ways to keep it shut.
She nodded in understanding, She quickly opened the door and scurried out. I wait for a minute until I hear the elevator ding. I took out my phone and made a call.
