I walked to the edge of my territory despite Kelson insisting on accompanying me. I refused. I walk through the trees where I can feel the pull. I'm met with gorgeous eyes and a shirtless Trevlan standing in front of me. "Who do you think you are, sending me threatening messages? Stepping foot on my territory? Stalking me?!" I start shouting. He grins. "I'm only doing one of those things. And I wouldn't call it stalking, I'd prefer to call it protecting my mate." He replies, sarcastically. I take a step forward in an attempt to intimidate him.. "I know it's you. I know you think we're mates but I don't -" I'm cut off as he takes a step forward and kisses me. I mean really kisses me. My insides turn to lava as the need washes over me. I melt against him and then as if remembering myself lean backwards and slap him. "Who the hell do you think you are!" I yell. "Well, I know for sure now that I'm your mate. You can't tell me that you didn't feel it, the pull to me, to be with me. You can't deny that you have strong feelings for me." He says, trying to reach for me again. I back away from him. I'm appalled by his words. I felt it. The electricity between us but it felt so unfair. My heart is drumming in my chest, desperate for this beautiful man's touch. To touch his chiseled tan chest, to run my fingers through his blonde hair. My mind is telling me to run away, far away. I take off through the trees, into the pack house and I only stop running when I've reached my bedroom. I drop onto my bed and growl in my pillows. I want to hate myself. I suffered for so long, didn't I deserve a chance to be happy again. Dex would've wanted me to be happy, to move on. But with his brother? I doubt it. I make a mental note to read Julia's letter and ask her about Trevlan. Right now all I need is sleep.
I wake from my nap at around 6:00 pm. I decide to take a run. Josie. my wolf, needs to stretch her legs. I take off as soon as I leave the house, shifting and allowing Josie to take control. I hear Josie thinking of him.
' we are losing control. all we think of is the blue eyes. the kiss.'
'we need him. our MATE. we feel complete when he's near. we must go to him.'
I'm absolutely pissed at the idea but I've handed the reins over. She'll not hand them back without a fight. She runs the perimeter until she's fatigued and she returns to where we saw him last. She walks through the trees, trying not to alert him of our presence but it's too late. He knew we were nearing long before we stepped foot on the outside of our boundaries. He sits next to a small fire that he's built to keep warm. We're nearing the winter and I almost feel bad for leaving him out here. She sits and watches him intently.
"Luna, I know that's you in there. Please come out so I can speak to you. I want to apologize for being so forward earlier and it might be easier to talk if I can hear you too." Josie walks behind a tree and allows me to shift. I ask him if he has any clothing I could borrow. Trevlan riffles through a duffle bag and passes me an oversized t shirt which will swallow me and a pair of drawstring basketball shorts. I dress quickly and know I must look a mess. My hair is knotted from the shift but still hangs down my back. I do my best to brush it out with my fingers before stepping out of the shadow of the large oak. I move closer and sit down across the campfire from him. "I'm here. Let's hear it." I say, I know it sounds b*tchy but I feel uneasy. His fragrance fills my nose from the clothing and its making it hard to focus. I do want him.. "I'm sorry for pushing you. I just wanted to be completely positive.I haven't been able to stop thinking about you for a week. You ARE my mate and I want a chance to try it with you. I know Dexter was your mate but I've never had a mate. It's just you. Please let me try." His voice is soft, pleading. My heart breaks at the mention of Dexter and I know he must be feeling the same as me. Wanting each other but feeling as if we're betraying him. "I want to kiss you, to hold you, to love you as you should be loved. He wouldn't want you to be miserable forever. I should know, he's my brother." He seems so heartbroken and I just want to reach out and hold him, comfort him. So I do the next best thing. I offer him a room out of the cold.. we've got some space and even if he weren't my mate, he was Dexter's family. I didn't feel right leaving him to his own devices. "We can discuss the mate situation another time, but pack your things. I will show you to your sleeping quarters. Please don't mention the mate thing to anyone. It should just be our business." As we walked back to the pack house he only tried to hold my hand once and after I pulled away, I think he understood. Was I crazy for opening my home to this beautiful, wild stranger? I guess only time would tell.
