## Chapter One — The Wrong Man
Amelia Carter had always believed that bad days announced themselves early.
That morning, her alarm refused to ring. She spilled coffee on her only clean blouse. Then, while rushing toward the hotel where she worked part-time, she accidentally walked straight into a man standing outside the entrance.
Her coffee flew everywhere.
“Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry!”
The man looked down at his expensive black suit before slowly raising his eyes toward her.
He was tall, handsome, and intimidatingly calm. His dark hair was perfectly styled, and his expression was so serious that Amelia immediately wished the ground would open beneath her.
“You're sorry?” he asked.
Amelia swallowed.
“Yes. I'm really sorry. I didn't see you.”
“You just ruined a suit that costs more than most people's monthly salary.”
Her cheeks burned.
“I said I'm sorry. I didn't do it on purpose.”
He studied her for a moment.
“What's your name?”
“Why?”
“So I know who to blame.”
“Amelia.”
“Amelia,” he repeated quietly.
Before she could respond, a black luxury car pulled up beside them.
The driver stepped out.
“Mr. Hayes, we're late.”
Amelia froze.
Mr. Hayes?
She had heard that name before.
Alexander Hayes.
The billionaire businessman whose company seemed to own half the city.
She looked at the coffee stain on his suit again.
Her terrible morning had just become much worse.
Alexander opened the car door, but before getting inside, he looked back at her.
“I'll see you again, Amelia.”
She frowned.
“I hope not.”
A faint smile appeared on his lips.
“I'm sure you do.”
Then the car disappeared into traffic.
Amelia stood there staring after him.
She had no idea that the mysterious billionaire she had just insulted would soon become the man she couldn't live without.

## Chapter Two — An Unexpected Offer
Three days later, Amelia was working at the front desk of the hotel when her manager called her into his office.
She immediately became nervous.
“Amelia, close the door.”
She sat down.
“Am I in trouble?”
Her manager smiled.
“Quite the opposite.”
He placed a folder on the desk.
“Hayes International is holding a private business event here tonight. They specifically requested you.”
Amelia stared at him.
“Me?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Her manager hesitated.
“Apparently, Mr. Hayes remembers you.”
Amelia's eyes widened.
“You've got to be kidding me.”
“I wish I were.”
She opened the folder. Inside was a temporary contract for an assistant position.
Her eyebrows rose.
“This is for me?”
“It's a six-week position. You'll assist his executive team during the company's negotiations with an international partner.”
“But I'm not qualified for something like this.”
“You're studying business management, your grades are excellent, and you've been one of our most reliable employees. They know that.”
Amelia looked at the contract again.
The salary was almost four times what she normally earned.
She needed the money desperately.
Her mother had been struggling with medical expenses, and Amelia had been working two jobs to help pay the bills.
She took a deep breath.
“When do I start?”
“Tonight.”
---
That evening, Amelia entered the private ballroom wearing a simple black dress borrowed from her best friend, Sophie.
She felt out of place among the wealthy guests.
Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling. Men in expensive suits spoke about investments worth millions. Women wore designer dresses and diamonds that probably cost more than Amelia's entire apartment.
She tried to keep her head down.
Then she felt someone watching her.
She looked across the room.
Alexander Hayes stood near the windows.
He was wearing a perfectly fitted black suit.
Their eyes met.
For several seconds, neither moved.
Then Alexander walked toward her.
“You came.”
Amelia lifted an eyebrow.
“I'm working.”
“I know.”
“So you're the one who requested me?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I remember you.”
“Because I spilled coffee on you?”
“That helped.”
She couldn't tell whether he was joking.
“Mr. Hayes—”
“Alexander.”
“I don't think we're close enough for that.”
His lips curved slightly.
“Not yet.”
Amelia looked away.
“You hired me for a job. Let's keep it professional.”
Alexander's expression became serious.
“Agreed.”
He handed her a folder.
“Read this. I need your opinion.”
Amelia opened it.
It contained a proposal from a major investment company.
She read through the documents carefully.
After several minutes, she frowned.
“There's something wrong.”
Alexander looked at her.
“What?”
“This clause.”
She pointed to a section.
“If you sign this agreement, they can change the ownership structure without your approval.”
Alexander's eyes narrowed.
“You caught that?”
“Yes.”
“Most people didn't.”
Amelia closed the folder.
“Then don't sign it.”
For the first time that night, Alexander looked genuinely impressed.
“That's exactly why yo
