Chapter 37 “It’s not a coincidence, the age difference.” Rachel sounded so certain that it wasn’t hard to picture the stern set of her mouth and the matter-of-fact look in her eyes. We’d been on the phone for at least a half an hour by now, rehashing all Ruth had told us. “You and Jake, Delilah and Philip, the age difference has to be close. Maybe that’s why she chose you.” She didn’t have to add that the difference in popularity was close, too. Philip may not have been a football star like Jake, but I’ll bet Jake and Philip both shared the limelight in a similar way. Rachel was too sweet to say it out loud, but she had to have seen that as well as I did. Delilah and I both had popular brothers who were a year or so older than us.
