Chapter 38 My eyes flew open. I couldn’t breathe. I tried to sit up, but something was holding me down. The force against my torso and hips felt like hands pushing. I flailed my legs and arms, but nothing helped. The more I struggled, the harder the force pushed. I opened my mouth to scream, but the necklace tightened around my throat. I reached up to claw at the chain, but it grew tighter. I could feel the clover pressing against the hollow in my throat. I tried to pry the necklace loose enough to reach my finger under it, my nails scratching my skin, but I couldn’t fit my finger between the necklace and my throat.
