Bella's POV
While unlocking our apartment's door Helena seemed a bit troubled.
"Beware of strangers Bella. I don't want you to get hurt at the end!" She frowned reckoning about something.
"Don't worry Helena. He appeared to be a nice guy, that's the only reason I spoke with him," I assured her not to worry about anything.
"Yeah, I know. Yet sometimes it takes years to know someone properly. Even then it's not enough. People constantly change. Maybe death is the only thing drawing an end to it. Because 'Change is inevitable'." She said opening the door to our apartment. The old wooden door made a creaking noise welcoming us abroad.
When I entered my new house I was astounded by the beautiful paintings and the clay made sculptures.
"Wow! Who made these Helena?" I asked her, being extremely curious to know.
"I did," She said looking at one of her recent paintings.
"Oh my! You study art. I couldn't have guessed. Amazing work Helena. I heard art portrays your beautiful mind and kind personality as well," I smiled.
"Thank you, Bella. I'm glad you understood that I was only tryna warn you. But of course, not all are the same. You'll meet many in life who'll give away everything for you," She said, being lost in thoughts again, "I'm sorry. I got lost in old memories."
I was surprised to know that it is the place where she used to practice art for a long time. Her dad owns the place who is not alive anymore. So now she's the sole owner of this house. She was a year ahead of me in University so basically my senior.
She had undoubtedly mesmerising talents in drawing and pottery. I was really happy that this talented girl was my new friend.
She showed me her room. My room had a beautiful balcony that faced the south. There weren't many high rising buildings around so the place was nice and perfect for me. Winter breeze blew on my face as I stepped onto the beautiful balcony. Far away as much as my eyes could go. I saw the main road and the peaceful environment. It was the type of place I always looked for. Was feeling so lucky I found it.
"Thank you Helena. I'll freshen up then and meet you in a bit," I said taking off my peachy coloured flowery scarf.
"No problem, take your time." She made a gesture around her neck, smiling, that she liked my scarf a lot.
I smiled back thinking I should gift it to her.
We ordered food from a restaurant for that day because she wanted to gimme a treat. After having dinner that night I called my parents and went straight to bed. Both of them seemed anxious more than necessary. I was a bit weirded out because of that. Everyone was great actually. I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. I had to wake up early because I had university the second day.
The next morning I woke up around 7 am. I prayed to God as it was my first day at university. I was a little scared as well. Thank God Helena was there to help me. Having someone like her as my friend was really helpful.
We got up on the first bus to the university. I saw there were many university students with us, busy chatting with each other. Helena said hi to many as we got inside. She seemed very popular.
Some boys were peeking at me and laughing. It was kind of embarrassing. I quietly went to a corner seat beside the window and waited for Helena. She was talking with another friend of hers standing near the last seat. But before she could come and sit beside me, our bus stopped and a guy who was standing beside the road got up on the bus.
As he walked inside I couldn't help but notice how handsome he was. Suddenly our eyes met and he stared at me as if he saw a ghost or something. Then quickly averted his eyes.
His eyes though.. one of the rarest things I ever saw in life.
He had Ocean eyes, such a deep blue colour, it's hardly seen. Felt like if you ever get lost in them it'll be impossible for you to come back into reality. He had dark brunet hair with white pale skin. Such a perfect jawline I only saw on TVs. Top to bottom he was perfect. The whole bus started to whisper now rather than chatting loudly with others. He got in and sat on the first seat behind the bus driver which was empty.
"Isn't he good looking?" Helena asked while sitting beside me.
"Um...haha yeah..." I was suddenly caught off guard by Helena.
"He is a basketball player. The best in our institute," She smiled while telling me about him.
I came to know from Helena that his name is Rex Allan. He is the only son of the Allan family, one of the founders of the university. His dad is a very well known businessman in the United Kingdom so he gets a lot of benefits and everyone adores him.
"So you like him?" Helena winked.
"Hahaha, we both are not each other's type," I replied laughing.
It was true actually. Rex and I were both completely different. I was a simple girl who liked simple things. I didn't need a high-class person like that in my life which would create attention. But I won't lie, with no doubt, he was very good looking.
I kept listening to Helena, being shy because we're talking about a man. She knew a lot about the university as well as the students. She also gave me some valuable advice about studying.
As we reached the university the pretty boy got off the bus first in a hurry.
As I got out of the bus I was startled to see the elegant university campus. The place was so beautiful that I couldn't help but stand for a while and admire the beauty.
There were students everywhere as it was time for class. I didn't get the chance to wander around much either.
It was a huge university and my class was supposed to be held in the other part of the main building.
Helena showed me my classroom and went to the main building to her class. Feeling a little nervous I sat on the second bench of the middle row.
The students were gossiping with one another as if they knew each other for a long time. I guessed that some of them were already friends. They must have gone to the same school and now they are in the same university unlike me who came from far away and has no friends. I was feeling kinda sad being alone like this. At last, the professor came and I felt a little relieved.
He said his name was Clark. He was a middle-aged man, around 45 to 50 years old. He had greyish hair, dark brown eyes and an amazing smiling face. He greeted all the new students and wished us best of luck for the upcoming challenges. He also explained all the rules and regulations that we had to follow in the institution.
But it was surprising to know that there will be a class every week where the seniors and the freshmen will take the class together. It was like a part of the extracurricular activity for the students to increase their communication skills with their seniors. Plus there... we all had to take part in a club's tasks and it was mandatory. I didn't wanna hamper my studies doing any other work so I decided to help in the library sector. This way I'll be closer to books and I can also study a little while helping there.
In my off period, I decided to eat a little snack and walk around the university to learn more about the place.
As I was supposed to work in the library I decided to check out the place. After searching for some time and asking a few people for directions I found the library.
It was a very big library, different from my school's small library. I was enchanted to see all the books because I always loved books more than anything. I started roaming around the bookshelves trying to find some books which can help me in my studies. There weren't many people in the library as there was a class period going on. I began to search for my favourite book of all time 'The Great Gatsby'. As I proceeded inside, my eyes halted on a boy.
He was reading a book sitting on the library's floor which turned out to be the same book I was looking for. I didn't see his face properly as he was looking downwards, completely concentrated in the book. But the funniest thing was, there was only one Gatsby novel in that section because I couldn't find any more of it. I didn't wanna disturb him so I just decided to go back to class.
Suddenly, as I turned to go back, I bumped into someone.
"Oh! I'm so sorry! Are you alright?" I asked while getting a hold of myself.
"I'm more than alright," I heard a familiar voice replying back. As I looked up I was greeted with the brightest smile that I had seen that day and that smile was nobody else's other than Jake's.
"Jake! It's you! In here!"
I couldn't help but smile back at his smiling face. It felt so great to see a friendly face among all these new people.
"I comprehended the first day when I met you that you are a nerd!"
"What? Of course not! That's supposed to be my line!" I pouted.
"On the first day of university,/students don't visit the library miss! Only nerds do!" He said laughing softly.
"Yeah right. Great intuition," I laughed too.
"It's my experience!" He exclaimed.
"Says a nerd himself," We both chuckled.
"So what are you doing here in class hours huh? Skipping classes on the first day?" He raised an eyebrow.
"What of course not! I have an off period that's why I thought I should check out the library. Besides, I'm gonna help here from now on. I chose this task here for my literature club." I replied proving my innocence.
"Hahaha! I was joking! Nice I got you. I'm really happy you chose to help in the library because I decided to work here too. I'll be looking after you as your senior," He smirked.
"Ok...um senior...." I was a little surprised to know that he was my senior. He looked the same age as me so I thought we were in the same year and I didn't have any idea we were in the same university too. I don't know why but I was kind of happy to know that we were in the same university. It wouldn't be so bad to see a smiley face every morning.
"So were you searching for any book?" He asked.
"No, it's fine! Nothing important," I replied, glancing a little behind me. But the boy who was sitting there wasn't there anymore. He must have left the place while me and Jake were talking because I didn't even notice him leaving. Pretty weird because there is only one way out.
"Well then let's go! It's decided," Jake declared with enthusiasm.
"What? Where?" I asked, surprised.
"Outside of course! You are not planning to spend the whole day in university, are you?"
"But the rest of the classes?" I wasn't sure if I should go out on the first day or not.
"Well professors won't start their lectures today, it's the first day. Besides, I'll make you familiar with some of the restaurants over here that I visited before coming here this morning."
Seeing my confused face he said again,
"I promise it will not hinder your studies in any way and we will come back soon. It won't take much time."
I couldn't say no anymore.
"Ok let's go," I agreed.
We went to a coffee shop which was very close to the university. It was a very decent place and it seemed many students from our University were there as well.
We both sat on a table close to the shop. Jake was thirsty so he ordered water first.
"It's so hot today isn't it?" Jake said, looking at me.
"Seems pretty normal to me," I replied looking at the menu.
"Then I guess it's just me feeling hot today because I have a hot companion with me!"
"Good for you wow," I replied laughing, looking at his flirty smile.
"I'll just take off my sweater," He took off his woollen sweater that he was wearing. I was kind of feeling shy suddenly seeing him taking off his clothes even though he was wearing a T-shirt under it. I could see his strong masculine figure which was concealed in his dark brown sweater.
The waitress brought a bottle of water and poured for him in a glass. She smiling the best she could but he didn't even look at her for a split second. His mischievous eyes were locked on me completely. I was afraid, thinking if I was blushing or he would get a chance to make fun of me again. He started drinking his water slowly while peeking at my embarrassed face.
"Are you thinking about something?" He asked, smiling playfully, putting the glass back on the table.
"Yeah, I'm thinking about what I should order," I ended our eye contact and tried to distract myself by saying that.
"It's ok miss shy girl I just took off my sweater, not my T-shirt. Or do you want me to take that off too?" He said snickering.
"Jake no you!!" I pouted.
"Hahahaha!" He started laughing again. His smile, it was refreshing and it was filled with happiness, it can create butterflies in your stomach if you look at his smiling face. He was like a ray of sun on sunflowers. An oasis of a desert under the scorching heat. It was a pleasure to be his friend. I completely forgot that I even had any problems in my life after meeting him. He was incredible...
