Days passed and things slowly came to be somewhat normal again. She slept alone with David in her own room most nights, other nights, she would leave him in her bed while he slept and lay with Lucian instead. She would not forgive him, as she had not forgiven him for many things. But her growing need to stay close to him was becoming a thread between them; one she could not break. And looking at David, she knew they would always be tied together. Regardless of the exchange, he still looked like them; none of his features resembled Lucifer.
His wounds were healing quickly, quicker than she had expected and after two weeks all he was left with were faint pink scars in the shape of the symbols that had been carved into his skin. He seemed to have recovered from the trauma quicker than any child should have; resuming his play and developing his motor skills. She often would sit on the floor and play with him. Help him build a tower and he would knock it down to his delight, giggling until he fell over.
Despite no longer having claim to David, Lucian would watch him as he played. She often caught him staring at him with a faint smile, like he was proud of what he had done. After a month, things had settled back to normal; she no longer looked at Lucian like he was a monster, he did not force himself on her again. She sat on the floor on a blanket with David with some toys in his Great Hall, Lucian in his chair as he ordered the torture of another unfortunate soul. She only side glanced a few times to watch, keeping David's back to the grotesque scene that Lucian was so enjoying. She watched him as he gave a sigh and waved his hand; the soul disappeared and he looked at his list. A grin crossed his face and he looked at her. “Oh Darling, you are going to love this one." She didn't turn to look at him, just continued to play with David.
"What makes you think that?"
"Oh because this is one I have been waiting to get; just waiting for him to make a mistake. Go ahead, drop him in." His grin had turned into a full blown smile and he sat forward in his chair and waited for the soul of Robert Richards to drop into place. She heard it hit with a sickening thud into the box. She got goose bumps and dared not turn around.
"Wait a minute, I know you, I know you! You are the one that requested that old fart, Dr. Green when Addy was brought into the ER" The familiar voice hollered at Lucian. He had gotten up from his chair, walked to the box and looked at the soul standing before him.
"Do you know why you are here?"
"I have no idea why I am here."
"You are here, because your obsession with that woman,” he nodded at Addison, “overcame you to the point of insanity. You r***d a 15 year old patient and then hung yourself. That is why you are here." Lucian's voice was calm and even and he stood close to the bars, staring at Robert Richards. Robert looked around and upon spotting Addison on the floor with David he hollered out.
“What are you doing here? Are you dead too? What has happened to bring you here?” He reached out of the bars to get her attention; she continued to build up a tower of colorful blocks but she answered him.
“I’m not dead, Robert. Lucian took me from the hospital that night and I’ve been here ever since… And…he’s a demon, he can do as he pleases, with whom he pleases. I just happen to be something that pleases him, that’s why I’m here." David bashed the blocks and they scattered on the slate floor; he laughed and she smiled sweetly to him. Finally turning around she looked at Lucian, and then to Robert. She got up and walked over to the cage where he stood, mad rage in his eyes. Leaning against Lucian he slipped his arm around her waist and she looked at him. "Robert...What happened to you?"
"You happened to him, Addison.” Lucian laughed
"She looked just like you, Addy." He suddenly found himself with Lucian's hand around his neck.
"So that gave you permission to r**e her? Do you have any idea what that does to a person? Do you have any idea how long that is going to affect her? I'm not staying for this. Do what you want with him but I don't want to see it." She walked away from the box. Leaning down she picked up David, leaving his blanket and toys on the floor and walked from the hall.
Lucian tortured him for hours. She could hear Lucian's laughter, Robert’s agonizing screams but for some reason the sound didn't make her uncomfortable this time. She was not happy Robert had ended up in Lucian's grasp. She thought she would feel bad but what she felt was complete indifference to how badly he suffered. Robert was certainly not the beginning of her problems but he had not helped. When Lucian was done with him, and his soul was sent to blow through the layers of hell for eternity; he came to see Addison. "How do you feel?”
"I had hoped that he would stop obsessing and get on with his life."
"You tend to have that kind of effect on people, Addy. I'm not sure he could help himself."
"I wish he had though."
"Where's David?"
"He's asleep, in my room."
"Good.”
