Lucian carried her into the home they had taken over and laid her limp body on the leather couch carefully. The back of her dress was saturated from the flail marks opening from her shoulders down. The cuffs of his white shirt were stained red, and he sat down beside her on the rug and took her face in his hands again. "Addison...open your eyes." She had passed out again on the drive over and her skin was going a pale, grayish color. Brown eyes opened slowly, dull and red-rimmed. He gave a little smile, her lips were pale, turning purplish blue and her teeth chattered.
"I'm cold, Lucian." Her voice was weak as she spoke and he turned and laid the palm of his hand on the tile floor. The fire place roared to life, warming the room slowly. He took limp hands in his own and rubbed them slowly.
"Lucifer is on his way." He watched the flames dance in eyes that were no longer bright and he knew this time was different. Though he knew she rarely lost her own blood when the wounds opened, she was losing it now and quickly. He was angry, furious but also worried that his prize was going to die. No matter how much he let himself feel for her, she would always be a trophy to him, something precious that he could not and would not lose.
"He doesn't care, Lucian." She watched him, lips dry as she spoke and he put her hand to his mouth, and kissed cold fingertips.
"Of course he cares."
"No, he doesn't. He has what he wants, he doesn't need me. He's told me“ She closed her eyes, tears squeezing from the corners and sticking to her eye lashes. Her lip quivered as she kept herself from crying. She was no longer bleeding, but her body hurt, like needles piercing every pore on her skin. "Don't. Don't let David see me like this, it'll frighten him. “
He looked up to see David on the stair case and shouted at him. "Back upstairs...now!" The little boys eyes went wide and he stomped up the stairs again to his room. The door slammed and her eyes popped open again. She was looking behind Lucian and he turned to see Lucifer standing there, leaning against the mantle of the fire place, flickering light casting a dark shadow on the walls. Lucian stood up and dropped Addy's hand slowly. "Lucifer, do something. She's dying."
"Yes. I see that." He didn't move, just looked at a nail and frowned at the chip in it. "Hmm, must have snagged it on something..."
"Then do something!"
"Mm...I'll think about it. Besides, I really have no use for her anymore. I have what I want." He smiled at Lucian and then c****d his head as Addison's eyes moved to stare at him. "Oh, I'm sorry does that make you angry? You didn't think I liked you that much did you?" He laughed and slapped his hand on the mantle.
"No, no. Not again, you will not let her die like you did Sarah!" He had grabbed Lucifer by his shirt, fingers wrapped tightly around the expensive fabric and he shook him. He only continued to laugh.
"Let me die, Lucian, I can’t do this anymore." Lucian dropped Lucifer who only snickered as he brushed himself off, straightened his tie. The leather of the couch was stained red, drops of blood saturated the carpet. Lucian held her hand, kneeling over her, shaking her shoulders to keep her awake. He grit his teeth looked over his shoulder at Lucifer.
"Call Him."
"No."
"Call Him, Lucifer; call Elohim! You will not do to her what you did to Sarah."
"Why should I?" He crossed his ankles, stood against the wall and watched with a smile as her eyes rolled back again and her breathing slowed. "Besides, we're in the middle of a war here, Lucian. I'm not about to call the enemy to my door step."
"Open your eyes..." He patted her cheek a few times and her lids opened half way. Her fingers were going cold in his hands, lips and cuticles turning purple. A groan escaped and her eyes fixed on Lucian.
"Who is Sarah...?"
"Oh, he hasn't told you this has he? Well, this is a good story."
"Lucifer, she doesn't have time. Call Elohim."
“I’m telling a story, just wait. Sarah was the woman he fell for. The only one he ever loved. His poor angel heart broke into pieces when she rejected him. And even after he fell for her...literally I might add." He grinned a little bit, tongue darting out to moisten his lips. "She still didn't want him. And she got sick, as they did in those days, and he wanted her saved and well, I just couldn't bear to do it. But hey, look at what that got you my Darling. And here we are, what a funny coincidence."
"Lucifer...David won't trust you without her." He used a little leverage, knowing that David was only doing as he was told right now and Lucifer sneered a little bit, knowing the truth. He didn't have time to meddle with the little brat and Addison was the only one he listened to with full attention.
"Fine, but this is the only time. And I'm not doing it for you, or for her. This will benefit me more than either of you." He closed his eyes, smirked a little, and nodded a few times. "Fine, it's done. I’m leaving; I don't feel like speaking with the old fellow. Kind of a drag..." Lucifer walked from the room now, picking at his finger nail.
.........
It seemed like forever had passed, that time had stood completely still for those moments when he sat alone in the room with her, His head against her shoulder listening to her breathing slow, her body slowly start to cool as the warmth of the blood drained from her body and spread over the couch and rug. He flared up the fire to warm the room further and then suddenly as he looked up, Elohim stood behind the couch looking at him. He didn't look like the traditional image of "God". He did not have a long beard and white hair, he did not wear a robe tied with a golden rope around his waist. Elohim dressed quite similar to Lucifer and the higher demons. Times had changed and so had he. He wore a dove grey suit and a white tie. He looked like a man in his sixties, Hair was cropped shorter, a grey peppered with black. He had his hands folded in front of him. "Luciah, I see you've found another one of my flock and taken a fancy to her." He reached down over the back of the couch and touched Addison's hair, her cold cheek. "She's almost gone. If she dies this whole war ends." His voice was like nails on a chalk board for Lucian. He had an immense distaste for the man. He had created him yes, but he had also forbidden him any kind of feeling. Lucifer had given him that and he pledged his service to him, and no longer to Elohim.
"Just...save her and go." He refused to look up at him, still clinging to Addison's cold hand, sitting in the blood that had drained from her body. "Why is it so much worse this time?" He finally looked up at his creator, his expression held worry and fear.
"You know, I was disappointed when you took the step off. But I knew you wouldn't give it all up. I'm not at all surprised you became Asmodeus. You always did have a heart to you."
“Shut up."
"That boy upstairs? It was a good plan, Luciah, but you had to know that Lucifer would take him from you."
"Stop talking!" He stood up finally, looking God straight in the eye, disgusted with the way he handled the situation. So much talk just like Lucifer. "Shut up, and do what you need to do, and go. This war isn't over until it's over. There's still five years left and you know that."
"Hmm." There was a certain amount of arrogance in his voice. He moved around the couch and knelt beside Addison, staining the knees of his suit red and he placed his hands on her; one on her forehead and one on her chest and closed his eyes. Her heart was barely beating and the volume of blood she had lost was far more than she should have been able to survive but as he took a deep breath and let it out slowly her eyes popped open and she took in a sharp breath, sitting up and fighting at the hands that were on her. Her eyes were wide and she was taking in gulps of air, nostrils flared and she looked at Lucian, who was standing over by the fireplace.
"What's going on? What happened?" She didn't move from where she was, just stared at the man who still had his hands on her, familiar warmth emanating from them and she calmed until her breathing was normal.
"Just a little accident. You ran into a few of my warriors...they have a little bit more of an effect on you. Unfortunately...they took advantage of the situation." He took her hand and patted it, looking at Lucian. "Hoping you'd stay and fight, and they could take her. It wasn't very well planned out. I apologize." He bowed a little bit and looked down at her again. "You're safe here. Though I don’t trust my counterpart entirely...Luciah will keep you safe."
She had a lot of questions but he was gone before she had a chance, simply walking out of the front door. Lucian walked to her and she grabbed him in an embrace akin to someone falling off a cliff. "I died Lucian....I was dead. There was nothing there, it was just blackness. What does that mean?” She was starting to panic and he held her tightly as she started to fight against him. He picked her up and carried her upstairs, she struggled with him the whole way. David was standing in his door way and Lucian looked at him.
"Go back to bed, David. Your mother will be fine in the morning." He continued to walk and he placed her in the shower stall and turned the water on. He called the maid in and left the room. The blood that was caked in her hair and stuck to her clothes ran red into the drain as she undressed her and washed her until she no longer held the stains of death. Physically she was fine, but her mind was wrecked at the moment. She was washed, and dried and put into clean clothes and put to bed.
"I died, Lucian...I was dead, I don't understand?"
"We'll talk in the morning." He had a feeling she would be hysterical, but she was acting much like she had when he had first met her. When she really was a little bit out of her mind.
