Chapter 26

26 She had fallen asleep between the two of them but woke up nestled against Lucian, Lucifer had gotten up and left hours ago. Lucian had been watching her sleep; she had a hold of his arm, keeping him close as she had slept. She turned her head slightly to look at him and then let her head rest against his shoulder again with a light hearted smile and sigh. "Morning..." She felt the familiar sting of his lips on her skin. Kissing her ear, her neck, and shoulder. Lucifer had left her with bite marks on her neck, her shoulder, right breast and on her abdomen and they had started to bruise. It always seemed like a good idea when nights like the night before started. All fun and games until the next morning when the guilty feeling would start to spread over her,"How are you feeling this morning?" "Like shit...as usual." She was quiet a moment and then turned herself to face him. "She let David see us again. What is Lucifer going to do to her?" "I don't know." He let his head rest against the headboard and looked at the ceiling. The home they had chosen had belonged to some celebrity with an obscene amount of money. They too had left their home with all their belongings still intact. "I don't care who he is, no child should see his mother doing what we were doing last night." She nestled herself against him again, a bit of normalcy returning to her morning. "---Speak of the Devil." The door opened and David peeked in. "Mama...?" Lucian pulled the sheets up over their naked bodies, but neither of them shifted from their positions. "You can come in David. It’s okay." the little boy was hesitant, he had been shouted out last night and he wasn't sure about entering the room anymore. The door pushed open a little further and David walked in. He climbed on the bed with them, and sat quietly watching them before he finally spoke. "He hurt you last night." he reached over, little fingers picking her hand up and inspecting the wound in her wrist, running his little finger around it. He rarely got a glimpse of them, she always kept them covered up. He didn't know what they were or where they came from. But he had seen Lucifer puncture one the night before. "Oh baby, he didn't hurt me." She touched his face again and tried to give him a reassuring smile. He had changed so much. His chubby face had begun to thin out, nose starting narrow a little; he was starting to look less like her, and more like Lucian. "No, I saw him, you were bleeding." He pointed out the red stains on the white sheets and she smirked a little, gave a sigh and sat up, with the sheet pressed to her chest by her knees. Taking both his hands in hers she looked at him. "David. You've been told to stay out of our room for a reason. That's grown up stuff that you should not see, and you should not be worrying about." "But I couldn't sleep, I had a bad dre--" "David. I told to stay out of this room at night. Caldaire was there to keep you safe, if you have a bad dream you need to go see her. You need to go and get dressed; Lucifer is starting your lessons today." Her son frowned and huffed. His little fingers still in her hands he spun the ring around her finger, playing with it, fingertip sliding over the smooth top of the diamond that sat in the setting. "I don't want to." "Well I'm sorry, but you have no choice. Go on, get dressed and go see him. He'll be waiting for you." The boy huffed again and then slid off the edge of the bed and walked from the room, grumpy. She rolled her eyes and laid back against Lucian again, who had stayed quiet throughout. He took her hand, laced his fingers with hers and kissed it. "I never thought this is where I would be at 27." "Really? Where did you think you'd be?" His fingers traced the line of her breast, around the bruise that Lucifer's teeth had made in her skin. "Dead." She laughed, squirmed a little as he touched her, goose bumps rising on her skin. ”I spent so much of life trying to destroy myself. I never for one moment thought I would be a mother. Let alone surviving the end of the world, being at the beck and call to two of the most powerful beings in a war that I helped create..." She raised one brow and arched her neck a bit to look at him. He placed a kiss on her lips and then rested his chin on her head. "Well. Things tend to change a little? What do you want to do today my love?" "I want to go out. Just because half the population of the world is gone, doesn't mean we can't go out for a little while. Please, Lucian?"  "Anything you want." ....... It had been far too long since he had taken her out. She was right, only part of the earth's population had been reaped, the rest of them had been left behind to fend for themselves in a war they had no control over. Things changed yes, but that did not stop the more savvy people from keeping their business open and running. There were a lot of dodgy places still open, but there were also a few places that had kept the upscale population and the demons of Lucifer's army plenty entertained. It was there that he took her that night. It was like being 20 again; when he would take her to unbelievably expensive venues just to make her happy. She had been such a brat back then. The crowd was slightly different, faces she would not have taken for anything but supernatural, and others who were crafty at hiding what they were. But regular human beings mingled as well and to her surprise and a delight that shocked her; the drugs that always went along with clubs, and alcohol and people. He steered her away from them, and to another area of the club where they sat on a purple couch with a low table in front of them. He ordered a few shots and they started their night with two shots of some awful liquor that burned all the way to her stomach. She refused to over-do it tonight and sat back to watch the people move to the loud thud of the beats, her ears humming with memories, her heart beating so fast in excitement she wasn't sure she'd be able to sit still. "Why are all those people staring at us?" "Because they know who we are." Lucian was in a suit, well dressed as usual; his tone was no longer the casual and sweet one that he often used with her. It was like they had really gone back in time. His arm across the back of the couch, fingers resting on her shoulder like he owned her. "That one over there, wants you dead so she can have your place." he pointed out a tall brunette to the right. "And that one over there..." Pointing straight ahead at a man at the bar. "That man right there plans on taking you out back...Excuse me..." He got up and walked toward the bar. She gave a sigh tried to grab his hand as he got up. "Lucian, leave it. Come on, he's not worth it..." it was too late, Lucian had already gotten to the man at the bar and had his fingers at the back of his neck, pinching his spine. She couldn't hear what he was hissing his ear but she knew it was nothing nice. The man's head suddenly made firm contact with Lucian's knee and then he hit the floor. He straightened himself out and came back to sit down. He looked at her with a little bit of a grin. "What? You expect me to just leave that alone? I'm not taking my chances. Lucifer has been in a foul mood lately." "Okay, I get it. Don't do it again please, I just want to relax tonight." The thud of the music was like bringing her back home and the memories of when she didn't have so much responsibility were a little overwhelming and she bit her lip. A tear must have slid down her cheek because she felt his finger and heard the hiss as it sizzled on his skin as he caught it before it ran to her chin. "Go get us some drinks." She nodded a little and got up, pushing her long dark hair over one shoulder and twisting it a little so it would stay there. Moving to the bar she stood there and waited a moment before ordering what she wanted. She'd not had a good martini in years and she really wanted a cigarette. The urge to move over to the far end of the club and indulge in a little bit of unhealthy recreation was starting to nag at her a little bit. Looking over her shoulder she laughed a little bit and rolled her eyes as two young ladies sat beside Lucian and fawned over him. Her feelings for him had changed so much since their first meeting. She had feared him, and still did to a point, but she no longer hated him. Love was very strong word, and something she did not use lightly; but love might be the only word to describe how she felt. Resentment was another one for doing what he has done to her over the years, for keeping her prisoner, for not letting her go. She returned to the couch, Lucian had shooed the two ladies away and she gave him a glass of bourbon and sat back to watch the crowd for a while. Their night had been going well, some others had joined them, and she was finally having conversation again with other people. How she missed spending time with other people. However when everyone had gotten up to dance, or leave for the night, when Lucian and Addison were left alone on the couch, he suddenly felt her go limp against him. "Addy...Addison?" He shook her a little, her eyes had rolled back in her head, blood was oozing from her nose. He squeezed her face between his fingers, holding her head up to take a look at her. Then he saw it, the blood trickling from her hairline, and saturating the purple fabric of the couch where her hands lay. "Shit." He grit his teeth and after laying her down carefully stood up and looked around. He spotted them quickly, sitting at a balcony table, wings in full view as they clinked glasses and then looked down at him with a smile. "You don't belong here!" He pointed up at them and the two Angel Warriors stood up. Lucian was powerful, and he could have taken them out with moderate effort, but they were there for Addison, not him. Turning he picked her limp body from the couch and disappeared, glaring at the Angels as he did. He didn't take her far, to the limo that was waiting outside and he lay her down on the long back seat, patting her cheek. "Addison...wake up, come on." Her eyes fluttered open and she groaned and then cried out at the sudden pain she was feeling. "Drive back to the house" Lucian knocked on the glass and the limo lurched forward.
