Chapter 10 SURELY, I HADN’T JUST heard those words come out of my father’s mouth. Surely, they were mere figments of my imagination. Illegal? I blinked at him, then readjusted my glasses so I could lock eyes with him properly. I shifted my weight, hoping to get a better handle on the situation. “I’m sorry,” I said slowly, selecting my words carefully. I didn’t want to be rude. I didn’t want to upset him.
