Chapter 12 “I THOUGHT WE WERE CATCHING up for lunch,” I said, though I could barely hear the words over the pounding of my heart. My hands felt sweaty and I shoved them between the folds of my skirt, trying not to think about the way I felt. “We are,” he said, not taking his eyes off me. “I just needed to make sure you were okay, after everything Oliver said last night.” His gaze darted to Ava, and then back to me.
