Chapter 4

2551 Words

Chapter 4 I WANTED TO CONCENTRATE on my book. I rarely got the time to sit and read but I just couldn’t sit still. I glanced at the clock for what felt like the hundredth time. This had never happened to me before. I was in a library, surrounded by books, and I couldn’t concentrate. What the hell? “You got somewhere to go after work or something?” Hillary asked as she scanned a book one of the teachers had asked to loan out tonight. Her fingers flicked through the pages, making sure there was nothing stuck between them. Every now and then, students forgot papers or bookmarks. I wasn’t sure when this particular book had been checked out last, but Hillary treated it like it was yesterday. “Me? No. Why?” I asked her, tapping my nails on the bench, nervous energy pulsing through my veins.
