“Your hair is extremely white. Why is that?” Tobias asked as he ran his fingers through Zoie’s hair. The couple had decided to change their schedule of the day and lay in bed. Tangled between the sheets in one another’s company, Zoie and Tobias spent the entire morning talking, cuddling, and exchanging a few kisses here and there.
"Initially, it was dark." Zoie replied. "It started to change to white when my powers ran wild."
“This means that you were there when all of those people were changed into superhumans.” Tobias whispered.
“About that…” Zoie trailed off.
“What?”
As Zoie opened her mouth to speak, the sound of a large crash caught her attention. Quickly, Zoie jumped from the and walked towards the window. Standing outside in the middle of the field was a tall yet extremely buff man. Tobias walked towards Zoie only to be pushed out of the way by her storming out of the room and downstairs. Sighing heavily, Tobias quickly ran behind the woman as she held her hand out and the front door shot open slamming into the wall with a loud bang.
"Zoie?" Tobias called out.
"How could you trespass onto my property?" Zoie shouted. "Leave now or there will be ramifications!"
Tobias grabbed Zoie by the arm. "What's going on with you? He could be lost!"
"You are only an issue!" He shouted.
"I don't have a clue what your identity is." Zoie shot back.
"Why not come and find out?" He inquired.
Tobias gazed at the obscure man and Zoie in disarray. Zoie looked as though she genuinely did not understand who the odd individual was yet he stared at Zoie with such contempt that he needed to have known her. As Tobias ventured forward and arranged to scold the man for intruding onto the property, Zoie snatched his hand and halted him.
“Tobias, go inside.” Zoie demanded.
Tobias scoffed. “I will not do that! What the hell is wrong with you?”
"Go inside! This has nothing to do with you!"
"Will you shut the f**k up?" Zoie hollered. Abruptly, the man held his hand out towards the natural dark Jeep that had a place with Zoie and squashed it until nothing was left of the vehicle aside from a ball. Tobias' mouth dropped open as he presently understood that the man was superhuman.
“Let’s play a game, Wrath.” Nate exclaimed adding emphasis to the name Wrath. “Let’s see just how much of a big deal you are. We can start with your little boyfriend.”
"f**k off."
"Clearly, your power is so strong that you can accomplish pretty much anything." Nate prodded.
Still holding Tobias’ hand, Zoie closed her eyes which left Tobias confused. Holding a hand up, Nate’s palms lit on fire as he smirked. Glancing over at Zoie, Tobias’ eyes widened at the sight of Zoie staring at the man with black eyes. Zoie let go of his hand and held it out before swaying it sending Tobias flying back. Hitting the ground with a thud, Tobias sat up and watched Zoie and Nate ignoring the burning sensation from his hands.
Nate chuckled as he watched Zoie's palm light ablaze to coordinate with his. Tobias looked as Nate delivered chunks of fire towards Zoie as she avoided every one of them. Tobias' jaw dropped as he watched Zoie send fire towards the man. Grey clouds were in the sky as the wind picked up and the sound of thunder roared. Suddenly, a lightning bolt appeared in Zoie’s grasp.
“Still hiding behind the weather?” Nate asked.
“Who are you?” Zoie asked.
Nate sucked his teeth. "Our dad truly screwed you over, my dearest sister."
Nate didn't get the opportunity to say whatever else as the lightning bolt struck him. Hitting the ground, Nate chuckled and grinned to himself. Remaining back up, Nate immediately utilized super speed to run towards Zoie. Snatching her by the neck, Nate grinned at her.
“Let’s take away some of those powers, shall we?” He whispered. Zoie could feel herself slowly becoming lightheaded. She could see the insidious grin from Nate through her obscured sight. Pushing her down, Nate laughed realizing that he had removed Zoie's capacity at changing the climate. Holding his hand up towards the sky, Nate sent a lightning strike towards Tobias.
Suddenly, everything seemed to move in slow motion.
Zoie couldn’t bring herself to cry or shout. Instead, she listened to the sound of Tobias’ heart slow as it got weaker and weaker. Zoie ran towards the man before grabbing his face yet his heart showed no signs of returning to normal making Zoie realize that she was no longer healing him. Only You softly played in the background as Tobias stared at Zoie with tears in his eyes.
“Nothing worked.” Zoie muttered as she held him close to her. “I held your hand and tried giving you powers then I tried healing you but nothing is working.”
“Zoie.” Tobias whispered.
“It’s okay.” Zoie reassured as she felt Tobias’ grip on her arm loosen.
“Thank you, Zoie.” Tobias whispered as his eyes slowly closed.
“Goodnight Tobias.” Zoie whispered as she placed a kiss onto his nose.
Nate stood in the same spot with a wide smile on his face. Suddenly, Nate felt faint. The sound of a faint heartbeat caught his attention as he placed his hand on his chest to see that it was coming from him. Zoie stood up and watched him intensely.
“What are you doing to me?” Nate exclaimed. “I am not supposed to have a heartbeat! There’s nothing human about me!”
Nate held his hand out to attempt to use hellfire to snap Zoie out of her trance. However, he was disappointed to see that he could no longer do so. Confused and shocked, Nate dropped to the ground.
“You’ve made me human.” He whispered. “You’ve stripped me of my powers!”
Zoie stared at the man before smiling and turning her head with raised brows. Nate couldn't bring himself to do anything as he watched Zoie hold a hand out and make an opening looking like a grave. Gradually, Zoie turned towards him and strolled nearer.
"This is what will occur." Zoie began. With a quick movement from her index finger, Nate shouted in torment as Zoie broke his lower leg and wrist before halting his heart making him heave in pain. “That’s how it felt to me when you killed him.”
Nate knew that she was referring to Tobias yet he couldn’t bring himself to say anything. Zoie had taken away his powers and made him human just so he could feel pain. As Nate laid there, Zoie smiled as tears fell down her cheeks.
“You no longer have your powers until I decide otherwise.” She revealed. “To pay for the damage you’ve done, I will bury you here and you will remain in this grave. However, you won't pass on. Instead, you will remain here in nothing but pure darkness and a tight space with no powers to get yourself out. There will be no one to hear you except for me.”
Zoie controlled his body to move towards the grave. As Nate battled against the puppeteer, Zoie said nothing. Falling into the grave, Nate gazed upward as Zoie gazed down at him.
“My father will find out about this.” Nate mumbled.
“Let’s hope he does because it’ll be your only way out.” Zoie replied. Zoie quickly covered the grave back up as nothing could be heard except for Nate’s screams of misery.
