Chapter Eight

Zoie sat on the couch as she stared out the window in silence. Since yesterday, Zoie had grown even more confused. While she was happy that Tobias had his sight back, she was also confused at the fact that she had done it. She had managed to heal the man which meant that she did not have her powers in control like she had assumed.  She hadn’t bothered to tell Tobias that she could hear voices in her head or that she could control fire. She thought of herself to be an odd individual already and would hate for him to think the same way. As Zoie sat there, the thought of her suicide attempt crossed her mind.  She thought the reason that the attempt didn’t go through was because she healed herself without knowing it. She thought of the beautiful home that she had been staying in. She fell asleep in the field and woke up to seeing her dream home. Zoie’s eyes landed on the flowers surrounding her home — she knew that she turned some of the flowers yellow but she did not change them orange.  She didn’t have control after all.  As the moon shined brightly, Zoie found herself staring at it with her siblings now on her mind. No one had bothered to reach out to her which left Zoie to wonder if they hated her. Sighing heavily to herself, Zoie closed her eyes and thought of a beautiful star shooting across the sky.  Tobias sat up in the bed and glanced at the pillow next to him. The side of the bed had been cold which let him know that Zoie either hadn’t been to bed or had gotten up quite early. Disappointed, Tobias stepped out of the room and made his way downstairs squinting at the bright sunlight from the windows. Entering the living room, Tobias laid eyes on Zoie who sat on the couch staring out of the window.  “Zoie?” He found himself calling out.  “How did you sleep?” Zoie asked without turning to look at him.  “I slept well.” Tobias mumbled.  “You’re lying to me.” Zoie muttered causing Tobias to freeze. “You did not sleep well.” Tobias sneered clearly stunned by Zoie's sentence predominantly in light of the fact that she was right. Clearing his throat, Tobias spoke. "How might you know?" The room was quiet with the only sound being from the forks tapping against the plates. No one dared to look up at the other with the main focus being the dinner that sat in front of them. With an eye roll, Nate pushed the plate away from him causing everyone in the room to throw a confused glance in his direction.  Timmy sighed heavily. “Not at dinner, Nate.”  “Why not, Timothy?” Nate exclaimed. “Father has us sitting here and eating away like we are one big happy family.”  “What’s wrong with that?” Olivia asked.  “What’s wrong is we aren’t like that at all, Olivia! We are far from normal. For f***s sake, you’re in Hell!” Nate yelled.  Olivia rolled her eyes. “We grew up here. Therefore, I know exactly where we are. What’s the reasoning behind your behavior? You’ve been acting as if something’s bothering you.” "Where is she, father?" Nate asked, disregarding Olivia. "Where is Zoie!" Lucifer continued to cut the steak on his plate open. Without looking at Nate, Lucifer spoke. “I sent her back to her realm because that’s where she belongs.”  “She’s one of us too, father.” Jacob said as he sat up in the chair. “She’s Wrath.”  “Why did you send her back? What was your point in doing all of that if you were just going to let her go back to a normal life!” Nate exclaimed.  “Continue to eat your food.” Lucifer softly replied.  “Answer me!” Nate demanded before slamming him hand onto the table. “You took away her memories of us, you sent her back to live on Earth, and you did it for nothing! Why did you do it?”  Lucifer set the fork onto the plate and stood from the seat. Olivia face palmed herself as Jacob, Timmy, Sebastian and Harry watched peacefully. Nate gazed furiously at Lucifer as Lucifer strolled towards him. “How dare you question me! She’s not like any of you so I allowed her to live on Earth amongst others.” Lucifer replied.  "What makes her so unique in relation to us?" Nate shouted.  “Your powers come from here! Her powers come from here but her mother and your grandfather as well!”  “Grandfather?” Sebastian asked. “As in God?”  “He’s the creator of all things. The old man created me, yourselves, and everyone else! He knows all and I’m positive that he knew who you were when he created you which is why you were easily banished here from birth. He made you but he had nothing to do with the evil that lives within each of you. Zoie was created by my father to be good just like all of his creations. However, she’s an inhuman so he took extra care in creating her.” Lucifer replied.  “Wait a damn minute!” Harry exclaimed as he stood up. “What do you mean by extra care?”  “Out of all of you, she’s the only one who was not damned from the beginning. She was created with the powers of telekinesis and puppetry because of her being inhuman by her mother, she has the powers of controlling fire, causing destruction through rage, and releasing overall chaos because of me as her father. She is Wrath because I am her father.” Lucifer answered.  “What about him? You said that he took extra care in creating her.” Nate mumbled.  Lucifer sighed. “He gave her the ability of Mentifery.”  “Mentifery? That’s one of the strongest forms of warping reality!” Olivia exclaimed.  “This means that she’s above everyone else.” Jacob stated.  “She’s not above my father.” Lucifer responded. “He’s the creator of all creations. He is almighty and above all in every sense and aspect. She doesn’t know anything about her abilities and doesn’t have the control that she thinks she does. However, I allowed her to leave because she does not belong here.” “That’s bullshit and you know it!” Nate yelled.  “That is all I will say tonight.”  “Is she more powerful than me?” Nate found himself asking. “Answer me.”  “Nate.” Olivia hissed. “She can achieve almost anything by using her thoughts and imagination.”  “Is she?” Nate exclaimed.  Lucifer watched Nate with a blank expression across his face as Nate stared intensely at him. Nate’s jealously was showing simply because of his pride. Lucifer knew that Nate viewed himself as the greatest and it was the reason why the rest of the sins listened to him so the thought of his younger sister being more powerful than him was an issue. With a delicate grin and a head gesture, Nate looked as Lucifer opened him mouth to say single word.  "Indeed."
