Chapter Five

720 Words
Zoie laid across the love seat of the lounge as she gazed out of the window peacefully. The sight of the rain hitting the glass made her calm as the sound of a wonderful tune played delicately. Uninformed of Tobias' presence behind her, Zoie kept on gazing out of the window.  Tobias had grown used to the living room area of the house. Slowly, he made his way towards the area where he last heard Zoie speak. Continuing to walk forward, Tobias stopped as he felt his foot hit the end of the couch. Realizing that he was there, Tobias held a hand out.  “I might just ruin it but may I have this dance?” He asked.  Zoie sat at the other end of the couch and covered her mouth as Tobias stood at the end of the couch with his hand out towards nothing. Sliding down, Zoie stopped as she now sat next to his stretched hand.  “Of course.” Zoie answered. Standing up, Zoie led Tobias towards the center of the living room. The sound of Le Vie En Rose by Louis Armstrong played all through the comfortable home as Tobias anxiously allowed Zoie to take the lead. Placing his hand around her waist and taking her other hand in his, Tobias moved forward. Immediately, Tobias’ large foot stepped onto Zoie’s.  “It’s okay.” Zoie reassured.  Sighing heavily, Tobias continued to move only to continue to step on Zoie’s foot. Now frustrated, Tobias groaned and pulled back. Zoie watched as he shook his head furiously and stepped further away from her.  “I’m sorry. I tried to make it fun.” He said.  “Will you trust me?” Zoie asked.  “Of course.” Sighing heavily, Zoie walked towards Tobias and placed her hand into his. Abruptly, Tobias could feel his body moving which left him befuddled. He could feel each movement yet he had no power over his body. Zoie controlled his every move as they danced around the living room in silence with the exception of the song. Instead of being afraid of what was happening, Tobias felt the opposite. He hadn’t danced in years and it truly felt nice to be able to do it again. He had always said that he died the night of his wreck but now he had never felt more alive. As a smile came across his face, Zoie smiled at the sight of him smiling. She didn’t want to show him that she had powers but she felt that she had no choice. Tobias had become her solitary companion and it meant a lot to her. He kept her calm and made her feel alive in many ways so she felt that she could make him feel the same way by letting him experience the dance that he hoped for. Controlling his body using her puppeteer powers, Zoie said nothing as she focused on making his day special.  The sound of thunder roaring caught their attention yet they ignored it and continued to dance. It had been only two weeks since they crossed paths yet they both played a big part in one another’s lives now. As the song slowly came to an end, Zoie and Tobias knew something for sure.  She fancied him.  He was bewitched by her. As Tobias could now control his body, Zoie slowly pulled away from him. Letting go of his hand, Zoie stepped back and watched as Tobias stood there with a soft smile on his face. Smiling softly at him, Zoie turned to walk away.  “You’re superhuman?” Tobias asked, causing Zoie to freeze. Zoie had a feeling that the question would be asked yet it still left her shock. She hadn't known Tobias long yet she felt amazingly calm around him. She had been distant from everyone else and lost in the strange world and was lucky enough to have found him - she didn’t want to continue to spread more lies and deceive the man who trusted her. Taking a deep breath, Zoie decided to do something that she rarely did.  “Yes.” Zoie answered. “I am superhuman.”  She told the truth.
