Chapter Six

“You can do whatever you want? There’s no side effects or anything?” Tobias asked. Laying outside and surrounded by red and yellow flowers, Zoie’s head laid across his lap as she chuckled at an excited Tobias.  “Not that I know of.” Zoie replied.  “Do you not understand how cool that is? You’re powerful as f**k!” Tobias exclaimed. “You can make things move with your mind, control the weather, and change an item's appearance!”  “It’s dangerous, Tobias.” Zoie responded. “You mustn’t tell anyone what I’ve told you!”  Tobias scoffed. “I won't, plus who would I tell? You’re all I have.”  “Good because if you tell anyone then I’ll kill you.” Zoie mumbled causing Tobias to laugh.  “Whatever.” He teased. “Wouldn’t this mean that your sisters had powers too then?” “They do but we aren’t discussing them.” Zoie quickly said.  Holding his hands up in defense, Tobias spoke. “Excuse the hell out of me.”  “Tobi?” Zoie called out. “Before the accident, what was your life like?”  Tobias sighed. “I guess it was boring. I won’t say that I was a party type of guy because I wasn’t. I had one friend and we had been close for years but he moved to Thailand a year before the accident, we stay in contact whenever we can.”  “Sounds like someone was a loner.” Zoie teased.  “We both were.” Tobias shot back.  “Touché.”  “Z, could you do me a favor?” Tobias suddenly asked.  Gradually, Zoie sat up and turned towards him. He looked very anxious and Zoie could even hear it in his voice. Slowly, Zoie placed her hand on his to console that anything he desired to say was alright.  “Of course, Tobi.”  “I’d like to drive again.” He revealed.  Hours later, Zoie found herself sitting in the passenger's seat of her black Jeep Wrangler. Tobias tapped the wheel enthusiastically as Zoie apprehensively gazed at him bantering to leave the vehicle. After he asked, Zoie debated it for a while but felt bad after he suggested that it was perfectly fine for her to say otherwise. Getting into the car, Zoie drove them both to an abandoned airport until they were parked on the runway. With Zoie’s hand on the gear stick, she sighed heavily and prepared to place the car from parked to drive.  "I'm anxious over nothing." Zoie murmured to herself.  "You okay?" Tobias inquired. “Are you ready? Zoie asked. As Tobias nodded, Zoie moved the gear and demanded that he drive. Shockingly, Tobias didn’t speed. With every window down, the breeze blew into the car as Tobias laughed in pure joy. Zoie couldn’t bring herself to say anything. Instead, she watched Tobias in silence as Can’t Help Falling In Love played softly. For quite a long time, Zoie had been despondent. There was never any moments of pure bliss and satisfaction for her since the death of Alice. Since that moment, Zoie’s life had been turned upside down as she constantly learned about her powers, heard voices in her head, murdered, and dealt with her dysfunctional relationship with her sisters. In other words, there was nothing normal about Zoie’s life and meeting someone was not on her radar.  However, everything changed the second she met Tobias — a man, who like her, was separated from everyone else and lost in this world. They hadn’t known one another a month yet he had done nothing other than bring her happiness that many she had known for years couldn’t do. Tobias was the piece to the puzzle that she had been missing. Zoie was calm and truly felt free. She finally had the calmness that she had always craved and it was all thanks to the special guy who had been at her side for the past few days. He was her chosen one and she could only hope that she was his too.  As Tobias grinned splendidly, Zoie grinned back at him realizing that he was unable to see her. Controlling the wheel with her powers, Zoie turned the vehicle to prevent them from going off the runway. Tobias kept on driving the vehicle with his foot pushed on the gas and an enormous grin all over. “We need to come to a stop now.” Zoie softly announced. Slowly, Tobias moved his foot to step on the brakes slowly. As the car came to a halt, Zoie shifted the gear to park. Laying his head back against the seat, Tobias smiled to himself. Zoie grinned as she gazed at him in euphoria. “Thank you, my dear.” Tobias announced.  “For what?” Zoie asked with a chuckle. “For not only showing me that I could still live my life to the fullest but for overall being the ultimate source for my happiness. I’m really thankful for you, Zoie.”  “I’m thankful for you as well.” Zoie mumbled.  Tobias opened his mouth to speak but quickly closed it shut. Placing a hand on his cheek, Zoie watched as Tobias’ lips parted. Now face to face, neither one of them bothered to make the next move. Instead, red and yellow flowers bloomed around the dead airport before changing to orange.
