CHAPTER TWO

Her gaze followed the droplets of water as it dropped from his damp brown hair, landing on his cheek, then rolled down to his shoulders, and his—- ‘Naked chest?’ Antonia blinked away the haze as she shifted her gaze back to his face. His brows were creased up as he stared at her. Or rather, glared at her. Her gaze dropped to his well-developed, muscular chest for the second time. She wasn't unfamiliar with the mate's anatomy, especially since she had been married in the past. That was why she was so sure she could handle being among males. But this guy? This guy was— “I asked…” he growled, snapping her out of her thoughts, “a question. Who are you?” His eyes glowed for a split second as he finished his question. Did he try to use his alpha powers on her? Gulping, she blinked as she focused on him, “I’m…” Waving her away, he shook his head, turning away from her before she could complete her sentence. “You have the wrong room,” he started, his voice a deep growl, “GET OUT,” Inhaling a deep breath, she clenched her fists as she fought against his command. He had no right to do that. He was a student just as much as she was. Well, two could play this game. With a smirk on her lips, she grabbed the handle of her suitcase and walked inside the room. Without glancing his way, she headed for the naked mattress at the opposite corner of the room. The room was already filled with most of his belongings. “Are you deaf?” Turning, she saw the boy was gazing at her, his eyes filled with fury. “One-zero-four-four,” she stated, raising her card between her fingers, “That's the number of this room, yeah?” With a smile, she continued, “I'm Anton. Your roommate,” For now, of course. “Or one of them,” she added as she looked around the room. Why were there only two beds available? Where would the others stay? “You're joking,” he stated, causing her to turn to look at him. Furrowing her brows, she asked, “And why would I be?” “Because I requested for a single room,” he drawled out. “You can do that?” Her brows rose as surprise laced her tone. “Well then, they didn't listen,” pointing to the card in her hand, she added, her voice firm “because this room was picked by me.” “There had to be a mistake with the printing or whatever they do with the cards,” he growled as he grabbed a phone off the table beside him. Shrugging, she sat on the mattress as she watched him stomp into an open door, closing it with a bang. ‘That was probably the bathroom door,’ she muttered. At Norvix, attitude was key. Most alpha heirs were proud, arrogant, powerful and dominant. A combination that didn't go well. And from what she could tell, this roommate of hers had some powerful connections if he wasn't part of the queue. Even still, she couldn't back away from a fight. No true alpha would do that. Damn it! Her plan was to observe the fellow heirs during classes, not make enemies with the first one she saw. Even though he was handsome. Very handsome. Shaking her head, she focused on the closed door as his voice echoed out. “This isn't what I wanted!” her ears perked as he growled with frustration in his voice. This was a good sign. If he wanted a single room, then she could quickly meet up with Charles and become his roommate. But that would only work if his room wasn't already full by now. Damn it! If that didn't work, then she would need to find someone to swap with. “Fix this.” Her roommate growled before he stepped out of the bathroom. He was wearing black pants now, but had no shirt on. “Don't bother to unpack. You won't be here for long,” he bit out as he grabbed a shirt and jacket from his bed. Without saying anything else, he stormed out of the room. “Wasn't planning to,” she muttered as she rose to her feet. There was no time to shower or do anything else. It was time for the newcomer's seminar at the auditorium *-*-*-**-*-*- “How is it going?” Charles asked from beside her as they entered the auditorium together. It was quickly filling up as students trooped in. Adjusting her shirt, she replied as they made their way to the chairs, “My roommate is bitching about being in a single room. Yours?” “Is that even allowed?” “I don't know. I'm shocked too,” Sighing, Charles said, “I was able to secure an extra bedspace for you, but it seems weird to my other roommates.” “Why?” “Because according to the rules, you can't keep any space for anyone.” Running his hand through his hair, he added, “That act alone has set a target on my back. If you want to switch rooms, you need to do that fast,” Pausing her steps, she looked at him as her brows creased up in worry, “Target? As in bullies?” But it was too early for that. Shrugging, he stepped ahead of her, “It's nothing serious. Just some kids trying to exert their dominance,” A chuckle left her lips as she followed, “Aren't we all the same age?” “You know what I mean,” The tightness in her heart eased up as she remembered that Charles could handle himself. But still, she didn't want him to be targeted because of her. “How many days do you think you can hold it?” “Two days max,’ She shook her head at him. If they were reacting this soon. It couldn't last more than twenty-four hours. “Alright.” She kept up with his stride as she offered a smile, “I'll make it work somehow,” “Don't do that. You look like a g!rl.” “Ouch!” He exclaimed in pain as she kicked his legs. “It’s only noticeable to you because you're aware of my...you know,” Shaking his head, he remained silent as they settled into their chairs, and waited for the seminar to start. Glancing around, she observed her surroundings. They were close enough to see the stage and whoever would come up, but not too close to grab attention. Just perfect. “s**t,” she cursed. “What is it?” On the far right of the auditorium, her roommate’s gaze was on her as he clenched his jaw tightly. “My roommate is glaring at me,” she forced herself to stare at the stage. What the f**k was his problem? She didn't want to be in his room either. “The brown haired one?” “Yep,” “He looks kinda familiar,” “I don't care. He should get his attitude fixed,” Cheers erupted from the auditorium as a huge bald man with an eagle tattoo stepped on the stage. “Woah! Instructor Sam is here!” Charles gasped. Furrowing her brows, she asked ,”Who's that?” “What? Only the best of the best instructor there is!” Charles exclaimed, “I thought you did your research?” “Well….” she drawled. “He was the alpha who defeated the …” “Welcome to Novix Academy, you silly newborns,” Instructor Sam’s voice boomed around the auditorium, interrupting Charles’ words. “Let me correct that. Welcome to hell,” a smirk played on his lips as he continued “This building right here will be a place of horror for you lot.” “You will go through training and missions that are curated to break your will. After all, you are soon to be alphas. Betas for some.” Murmurs filled the hall at his words. ‘That's right, not everyone here will be recognized as an Alpha. We are here to drag you through the mud until your skin bleeds. We will bleed you out until you're all dried up,” The hall grew silent as his words settled in. With a sick smile, he added, “At Novix Academy, we don't want enmity between the future heirs. But, there's nothing we can do when fights break out, can we?” “Sadly, in order to reduce probability of a pack war, because of the childish attitude of some graduates, the council has issued a new scheme,” “For the first series of test, we're introducing a buddy system.” Antonia's eyes widened at his words as her heart raced in anticipation. “What’s that?” “What's going on?” “Silence!” Instructor Sam ordered. “The first test is a test of cooperation. We want to see how well you can coordinate and cooperate with the person next to you,” Antonia glanced at Charles, who looked back at her, a smile on his lips. ‘This was a good chance,’ she thought, ‘It was a given that they would both be buddies. “In this scheme, if you win and your buddy fails, you both fail.” Gasps filled the hall, but he continued, “If he wins, and you fail, you both fail.” “So to move to the next test, you both have to pass,” Nodding, she leaned towards Charles, “Thank the goddess we already fight well together, right?” Charles chuckled without giving a response. This would be a cakewalk. Tilting his head, Instructor Sam crossed his arms against his chest as he smiled, “Did I mention that your buddy is your roommate or bunkmate?” Antonia's mouth dropped at his words. His smirk grew wider as he added, “If you both fail to move to the next test, it's bye-bye to Novix academy for you,” “No way!” Antonia let out a gasp as she turned her head to the side. Shit! s**t! s**t! Her heart pounded as she caught the gaze of her roommate, who was already sending deadly glares her way. Shit! This wasn't how things were supposed to go.
