“One of those?” he asked, trying to keep his voice level. He couldn’t panic or reveal anything. First, he had to understand what Alexander knew, and then he would build upon it.
“Back where we are from, there was this family, also all alphas, but they had an age. It was 22 for them if they didn’t find their mate by 22. They would be made to marry someone the family chose.” Grey blinked. That was exactly like him, except he didn’t have the luxury of waiting for two years. He had two weeks, and then it would be his wedding, and he had no choice in the matter.
“We’re the same age, right?” he asked, and Grey shrugged.
“That depends on how old you are?” Grey asked.
“Twenty-one.”
“No, then you are older than me. I am nineteen, I turn twenty in two weeks.”
Alexander nodded, but then he frowned. “I heard that you’re still in school.”
‘Oh, no. See, Wolf, they’re doing it. They know. They know something is wrong with me, and with a little more digging, they’ll find out exactly what is wrong with me. What should I do? What should I say?!’
“Oh, hey, hey, calm down. You’re okay, if that’s a sensitive topic, we can change it, but you’re breathing way too fast.”
No, that was impossible. Grey was impeccable at keeping his emotions and actions wholly controlled. There was no way he was hyperventilating. There was no way he was stupid enough to let his guard down. He wasn’t a fool. He couldn’t embarrass his father more than he already had in his head and Wolf. Yes, he was having a freak-out, but he should have looked as he always did on the exterior. Fine and calm.
Rosalyn stormed over, and she looked so annoyed. Her dark hair, done in a fancy updo, no longer looked impeccable. It looked messy, as if she had been in a physical altercation with someone; she was holding her black slippers in her hand as she leaned over the edge of the fountain alongside them.
“Alexander, I can’t find our stupid brother anywhere, and Dad wants to leave.”
“What, why? We just got here.”
“He found his mate, again. And he rejected him. In front of everyone.”
“Wait, I’m sorry, again?” Grey asked. He was right, she said again. He was sure of it. Had he lost his mate? And found another one? Was that possible? He had heard of it, but seeing it in real time was a whole other situation entirely.
“It’s a messy situation, our dad’s a little . . . Timid, is the nice way to put it, and well, it’s a hot mess,” Rosalyn said, and that didn’t help him understand, but she looked rather annoyed. She moved her slippers into one hand so she could run her fingers through her dark hair, gently tugging at it.
“Well, Grey, it was nice meeting you. Oh, before we leave, I wanted to ask you to go to the Boarding School for the Gifted, right?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
The Boarding School for the Gifted, TBSFG for short, was a school where half its population consisted of creatures humans thought didn’t exist, and most, if not all, children born from these creatures within the country attended this school. It may have sounded like a lot, but in actuality, there weren’t many creatures left in this world.
“Awesome, I’m going to be going there too. Give me your number,” Rosalyn said, grinning as she pulled her phone out of her bra.
“Hey, he’s my friend,” Alexander snapped.
“No, he’s my friend,” Rosalyn shot back.
“How about I just give you both my number?” Grey said, and they nodded, not before glaring at one another. He told them. They both added it to their phones. A few seconds later, Grey’s phone buzzed.
He pulled his phone out of his pocket.

It’s Alexander.
Grey smiled to himself a little. Even though they were siblings, their texting style was so different. Rosalyn dragged Alexander away, and Grey sighed. He found them to be interesting, albeit a little weird. But they could be some friends, they could be his first set of friends since the incident.
‘Yeah, a shame you didn’t meet the third one,’ Wolf said, and Grey rolled his eyes at him.
‘Please, be happy. I met two out of three. Now, I need to see what all the fuss is about.’
Grey inhaled, preparing himself and walked back inside. He couldn’t see the siblings, and hushed whispers filled the air; people hid their mouths as they spoke to the person beside them. Arabella appeared, looking very pale.
“Arabella? What happened?” he asked.
“Your father found his mate,” she said, and Grey was confused. That was a good thing. So, why was everyone panicking?
“Oh, that’s amazing!” Grey said.
“No! It was a male. He rejected him in front of everyone. Oh, his mate looked like he was about to cry. I think he did cry.”
Grey remembered the siblings, how their father had wanted to leave, and how he had been rejected. The realisation dawned upon him. Their father was his father’s mate.
He was frowning as he searched for his father. He had to do his best to calm down before he came face-to-face with him. Grey wanted to know how his father could do that. Grey was well aware he was cold and heartless, but how could he reject his mate in front of everyone? Grey found the siblings with their grandfather and their father.
He also saw their brother. A reasonably tall boy with blonde hair and the bluest eyes he had ever seen, he wore a blue suit, which further brought out the colour of his eyes. The youngest sibling was talking to someone Grey recognised. He believed his name was Micah. Grey and he shared history; from what he remembered, Micah was quite the history geek.
However, Grey’s eyes found the youngest sibling again, and he froze as he heard his wolf.
‘MATE! MATE! IT'S YOUR MATE! GO TO HIM. HE’S YOURS. DO NOT LET HIM GO! GO! GO. THE BROTHER. GET HIM. GREY, NOW!’
Through the eagerness of Grey’s wolf and the chaos all around, there was an overwhelming need to claim his mate and the loud buzzing in his ears. All Grey could focus on was one fact.
His mate was a male.
